Anyone watch, Say Yes to the Dress???

I have to admit, my TV watching is now dropping to a new low but here I sit every Friday night watching these brides spend mega money....I don't know if it's me, although they do have some gorgeous gowns, but some of the dresses are outrageous, looks and cost.....Last night 1 really weird bride spent either $35,000 or $45,000 on a one of a kind run way special...It was silver and short in the front with a lot of stuff.....

And then to make matters worse, I watched, Brides of Beverly Hills...One bride had a ring on her finger the size of a golf ball and both she and her gal friend had so much botox they couldn't even smile....The other bride was a porn star and her husband that does the producing and they were going to renew their vows...She was a 36G so you can imagine how she looked....The lady that owned the shop said she dresses a lot of stars and her dresses are always in the movies.....

I've come to the conclusion, I gotta get a life and quit watching TV.......

Thank you Gazania....this is the old curmudgeon speaking...what they call Country today, is just Pop, with anew title. I listen to classic country all the time and I can recognize those singers because they didn't all sound alike, not to mention look alike. Today's so-called female country singers all look the same....skinny, long blond hair, dressed like a hooker. The guys look alike as well, shaggy hair, unshaven, and sloppily dressed. I tried to watch a little of the award show, the only thing that impressed me was when the Service man came on, in the wheel chair, and the standing ovation he received, and the heartfelt song, by Trace Atkins. I liked her earlier shows more than the ones since the $1 houses began. I think it all started with the Minihaha (totally misspelled I'm sure) house. After that one she's cheezed out on stuff more, probably because she sank a LOT into that place and didn't really get it back. The latest one (I think), omg I would have been all over all that stuff! I have an old sunbeam mixer like the one they found in that house-although it's in my attic and I use my 4C kitchenaid instead since I have some of the Hobart attachments for it. I also don't care for her color choices. black and white, black and white...gray...and the latest house, the exterior, with the detail work painted in pink and the house brownish-ick. There's a house in the city we used to live in, that had similar details, but the whole place was painted various pink/maroon shades with some white, and it looked MUCH better. ALTHOUGH, I have to say, DH laughs when we watch it because I'm a lot like her with salvage. There was one episode that involved her collection of old doors and she said something like "why do I have all these old doors" and before she could answer herself I said "because they're so cool" or something like that-then she said the exact same thing (I'm having an issue with storage of salvage myself, with a small house and no basement, although I DO still have a small collection of old doors anyway, lol).

What it's like for me here..it's hard to write about it, I mean in this format of short(or even long, in my case) posts. I grew up with this radar though..I sense things..I've a pretty good compass of good and evil. It's hard to understand a country-any country-until you lived there. Books help of course. good books I mean. Yet still. Sometimes even physical presense is not enough-you need to really spend years somewhere. I'm afraid to count how many years I am here-and it's only now I feel that I'm closer to understanding all the complexity. So no wonder people here can't wrap their mind about things that happenned ocean plus away. I'll try to be brief..not about US for now, but about Chernobyl times.. They told only because they couldn't afford not to tell, at some point. They always seem to feel they have a lot, a lot of disposable resources. Like people, for example. I don't mean the country, there are good folks everywhere-I mean the state. the empire. There were many things they never told about. Including catastrophes and accidents. Some things that they deemed not comme-il-faut, that hurt their image and their proclamations, simply didn't exist. They existed-but they were swept under the carpet with such efficiency one hardly had time to blink. All the numbers of people they deliberately killed, repressed, deported, misplaced, etcetera-it all can be easily googled. And it's tens of millions. all of it sounds surreal. yet it was incredibly real. Here they were just, well..they weren't even in an active mode of evil. They just kept silent because they could, and until they could not. As for the writing..no..I didn't think about it, at least not in terms of describing big societal things like Chernobyl There are many very fine writers. And I just recently read some memoirs of different people who knew Leo Tolstoy-and it seems I share his opinion about writing. Which was approximately "don't write unless you feel you completely and utterly can't resist anymore" (he also thought, like me, it should be "useful'. The whatever you write. For the mankind. But we strongly disagree on poetry..me and Leo Tolstoy. lol) also I do write, in a way..it's too much of me here even in this thread)) Re Tired, I've been to Lvov-yes, it's a very beautiful city. I was with my schoolmates, we had a class trip there. I remember it very fondly.

I'm kind of surprised at many of the comments above. I haven't watched the show, so I have only the advance commercials that I saw to judge it by. But I thought he came across as very conceited and egotistical in those commercials. And the women? Cheap and tawdry in spite of fancy clothes and heavy make-up. No, I don't watch any of the Bachelor or Bachelorette shows, so maybe that is a too harsh judgement. I tried to watch one or two a couple of times, but the whole idea of them seems almost kind of sick to me. That's just my opinion, of course, apparently a lot of people do like that sort of show, as they seem to go on and on and on. Rusty

I watched Brides of Beverly Hills and was floored at how much they spent on gowns, but when you are wearing a 7 carat diamond, I guess you need a dress to match lol. The porn star couple was intersting and I'll leave it at that!

I like watching the women choose their dresses, but sometimes I think the families are too opinionated. It makes it very difficult for the bride-to-be. Sometimes I feel sorry for them. But the prices, yow! My dress was $70 (on sale half price from $140).

I have watched it and stay with the drama that includes catty friends and mothers who can't see that they are turning this event into a bad memory. The bride that wanted to wear cowboy boots had a mom who was surprisingly understanding.

I can't relate at all though. I never had that feeling of wanting one special dress on my wedding day and waiting all my life to have my wedding dreams come true. My mom led me in the right direction and mom and dad gave me a beautiful wedding EACH time. ;~)

I just wish some of these brides would put as much thought and caring on the marriage than the one-day event. Some of them seem to worship at the alter of excess fullness. Turns my stomach. I don't watch anymore...oh and I've watched the shows about the 'big' brides, and couldn't believe how these women stuff them selves into those strapless dresses, with all of the fat oozing up and around the top and the fat on their arms swaying back and forth. Ick. JMO and I'm a big gal so feel I can comment on them.

Dotmom, amen, sister, "I just wish some of these brides would put as much thought and caring on the marriage than the one-day event." is EXACTLY what I think! I think a lot of the brides lose the reason WHY they are getting married, they think it is all about the dress! No wonder over half of marriages end in divorce, they have nothing to look forward to after the wedding!

I love the original that takes place in NYC, but the southern edition annoys me. Haven't seen the Beverly Hills one.

I used to watch it alot, but got bored with the same dress style being paraded out, esp. strapless - and on all body shapes. I wish just once to see a dress with sleeves.

I have watched the various versions, Klienfleds in New York and the one in Atlanta, now the one in Beverly Hills. I was surprised to hear them tell the bride with the 7 carat ring on that the dress she was trying on was their most expensive one because the New York show has some much much more expensive dresses. I would have thought Beverly Hills would have the high end ones too but the salon in Beverly Hills is not nearly as nice as the others. That pedestal they have the brides try to perch on is ridiculously small and looked like someone made it in their garage.

I never had an actual wedding gown(I wore a formal) and I too can not imagine spending so much money on a one time dress, I do understand it is a very special day, but mine was special too and I did not spend that kind of money, we did not have it. We had to use our money to pay for our educations and food and rent back then!
I do sometimes think when we reach our 40 or 50 yr anniv, we should renew our vows and I could wear a nice appropriate wedding style dress, but NOT one of those gowns LOL.

More and more of them are starting to look like they should come with a stripper pole!

What grosses me out are the big tattoos all over the arms and backs of otherwise lovely young women.

I didn't watch the one from Beverly Hills - glad I didn't.

Dotmon, I agree with you. I'm a big girl and I would never wear a strapless dress or top. The girls should also remember that after the big wedding, there is a marriage. They are so focused on the big day they forget whats to follow afterwards.

The whole Beverly Hills show seems tacky. The consultants look ridiculous. I wonder if the store is in a strip mall with a 90210 zip.

I sometimes watch the show with my future daughter-in-law. She'll be in the market for a dress soon. This summer I had a yard sale and a lady that stopped by mentioned the fact that her daughter got picked to be on the show in Atlanta. One interesting fact she said was that they could only wear certain clothing colors on the show - nothing too flashy or too brightly colored. I thought that was really ironic.

I have also watched the one that is for the bridesmaids dresses, that one can become train wreck tv real fast! The hair gets fluffed and those polished nails come out. Cat fight on the runway. LOL

So many times it seems everyone forgets who they are really there for! IT is the BRIDES day NOT yours or yours or yours.
It would be hard not to say something to the rude ones if I was one working there.
