Those modular homes are amazing. I looked at some awhile back when a friend thought she might like to build one. They had a fabulous Arts and Craft style home I fell in love with. I thought the construction was much better than regular site built homes.

I've seen shows on HGTV about modular homes. If I were going to build a home, I would definitely get a modular home. The workmanship seems to be better and the prices are definitely better. There's a place near us that sells them and we toured one--you would never know that it had been built elsewhere and trucked in. Amazing and fascinating. I'll be anxious to see the final pictures.

Looks like it will be very nice... love that they have what looks like a private wooded lot as well!

We choose a modular because we couldn't be on site to watch a stick built house under construction. We are very happy with our choice still, 13 years later. Hope your son's new home makes him as pleased with his choice as we are with ours.

They're building on an acre that used to be part of my property. So you might say we're both living on 31 acres. I'm their only visible neighbor, and vice versa, except for some horse barns. I'm looking forward to seeing their nights at light, especially in winter.

My brother and his wife owned a business that sold them back when the economy was better. Luckily it was their second job. He gave me some pamphlets and it's amazing how they manufacture and move them. They do seem to be built especially sturdy.

That house is going to be adorable! Love his lot.

I took some more pictures today. Still a lot of work to be done inside and out, but you can get an idea of what it looks like.

This is the view from my front porch. It looks like the new house is directly in back of my blue shed.

But as you can see, there's a lot of space between the two. (Just a sliver of the shed is showing at far right.) The angle above is so deceiving!

Rolling hills in back of the house are visible at right (with a patch of snow on one of them).

Closer shot of some of the detail. The shutters are sort of a brownish mulberry, I'd say. Or maybe a purplish brown? :-)

The builders were able to leave some trees near the house.

Susan- that is so exciting. They must be so thrilled. It's amazing how quickly the contractors put them together. Will there be some kind of front porch? a fireplace? The siding looks like it's a cream color - very warm and it looks good with the shutters. When will they be able to move in?

They're planning a deck rather than a porch--I'm guessing it'll be at the back. No fireplace, but my DS is planning to eventually install one of those wood-heat systems in which the wood is burned outdoors.

The original plan was for them to move in by Thanksgiving, but I don't know......the well has to be dug, and the septic, and lots of finishing needs to be done to the interior. We shall see. If not Thanksgiving, I'm hoping by Christmas.
