I'm not sure if it's a good thing but I'm learning more and more about my grandkids on Facebook. LOL

Last week I found my very first friend from grade school. Her family moved away after 6th grade back in 1965. Very nice playing catch up. Have fun getting caught up with Astrid!

just google facebook.com and it is free. i get to see my whole family and friends here.

Sharon, it's something on the order of My Space, only with a more grown up focus (although there are lots of teens on it, too). No fees are involved.

Each member is given a page, and when you find other members you know (or used to know), you can add their names and photos to your page. You can also communicate with them via Facebook and do assorted other things.

Perhaps one of the KTers with more Facebook experience than I will give you a better answer.

I would love to set up a Facebook page but I guess I fear the whole privacy 'thing'. Has anyone had any problems with unwanted emails, spam or just unsavory stuff after setting up their page/registering? I think it would be great fun to re-connect with old friends and folks I haven't seen or heard from in many years. Do you have to post a pic? It sounds like fun and, like something I would enjoy.

LOL....I used my mirror pic, too. You don't have to post a picture, but it's nice.

I haven't had any unwanted emails as a result of Facebook. People can't email you directly anyway, if you don't post your address. Instead, Facebook will email you to let you know if someone has left a message for you or has written a note to you on your "wall."

I think you should do it. And when you do, be sure to let us know because quite a few KTers will want you to be their friend. :-)

Be creative with your picture. Here is one a friend of mine on Facebook uses. Doesn't give away much unless you know he was born in Texas.

I've had some trouble with MySpace but none whatsoever with Facebook.

Ooooo...this sounds like fun. I went over to look at it after Susan's OP. The privacy stuff was the only question I had so, I thought I better check it out will all of you first. I had a problem with spam a year or so ago and would hate to go back to that issue.

Also, my computer blew up this past weekend so until my new one is delivered I will be limping along on my very old laptop. It is old, slow and has a screen that is difficult/impossible to read. I will register as soon as I can see for sure what I am doing.

Susan, funny about the mirror pic. I am sure the one I posted here would be just about the only recent pic I have of myself. I'm not crazy about seeing pictures of myself.

In order to see a new great grandson's pictures, I was directed to Facebook. Another DGD saw me there, and emailed me how stunned she was to see Granny in Facebook. Yes, as Nola said, you learn a lot about your grandkids in Facebook!

none of my teen friends from the past are on the internet and don't even have a computer what they are missing!!!

I haven't had any problems with junk email since joining facebook. It's a fun, informitive site. Great for keeping up with people.
My son who frequently thinks outside the box used this photo for his profile picture there.

Astrid called me today, and we had a lovely long talk. She remembered some things that I didn't, and vice versa. I'd forgotten that we were so young when we were close friends: 11 to 15 for me, Astrid a year older. We drifted apart when she got married at 16.

She still has a slight German accent. I felt really comfortable talking to her, and enjoyed our conversation. Oh, and she told me she named one of her daughters Susan! :-)

I too have found some high school friends that I hadn't seen in over 30 years on facebook. I like using the facebook chat to "talk" to them.
The only problem I ever had was someone hacked into my account and wrote spam on all my friends' walls. Of course, the pastoral staff of my church uses it so it was kind of embarrassing that there was something along the line of "I found my secret crush, so can you by clicking this link" posted on my senior pastor's wall! I changed my password and haven't had any more problems.

I started a Facebook page, but I'm lost on it. I guess I'm too familiar with MySpace. I just can't get used to it. Also I haven't been about to find anyone I know on it. Everyone I know seems to be on MySpace.

I got Jodi as one of my (two) facebook friends, and I don't think I've been back since.

Dani, I was baffled by Facebook too when I first joined as I was also used to MySpace. But now I find it much easier, and safer using Facebook.

I go back and forth between the two now and if I can't find friends on Facebook I try one of three things.

1. I go to MySpace and look. If I find a friend on MySpace, I ask them to join my Facebook page.

2. Use the Friend Finder option on Facebook. You can put in your email address and password and it goes into your address book and tells you who in your addresses is already on Facebook and gives you the option to select everyone who is not on Facebook so you can invite them.

3. Find the kids of friends and family you've lost track of, contact them and ask for a way to reach their parents. I just reconnected with my brother and two old friends that way.

I found my h.s. best friend too last year and she came for a visit this summer. Now we keep in touch. Just like old times.
