You have to be patient when it comes to Flash updates. They sometimes take an unusual amount of time to configure. As an alternative you could save the download to your system, close all open windows including browsers, and then install from the stored location. This protocol does alleviate the reference of the dedicated browser referred to by RC. DA

The version I downloaded yesterday was Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX. I uninstalled it, and downloaded and installed it again. Using START> Control Panel>Programs and Features I confirmed what I re-downloaded was Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX. The system I have is 32 bit. After downloading and installation, I still could not see any animation. I went to the sites that ravencajun suggested, went on YouTube too, saw nothing but the same dreadful messages " You don't have current Adobe Flash Player", or "cannot find Adobe Flash Player". I have not try Safe Mode yet. Will it help? How can I get to it? Thank you again for the help.

I apologise for the different threads. It was very late, I was tired, and determined to "fix it" before I went to bed, and becoming more irritated because I couldn't. Here's the scenario: Usually watch YouTube music videos a while in the evening, so, day before this happened, everything was fine, shut computer down, went to bed. Next evening, logged into YouTube with the error message: you must have Java off or not have latest Adobe Flash. I had NOT changed any files, etc. Checked the Adobe I had, went to Adobe website to check. Installed the latest Adobe Flash. I also installed the latest Adobe Reader and Shockwave Player, since mine were out of date. And, although I didn't opt to install it, the Adobe Air showed up on my programs list. I also went to Java and got their latest updates. Videos stil won't play, so I came here with the problem. Advice was to go to Adobe site, get the uninstaller,download to desktop, close browser, uninstall Adobe again, then go to Adobe page and re-install. I did, and still videos won't play. I have an Dell from 2002, Windows XP Home, 32-bit, 7.30GB of free space.

I found some step by step instructions from AumHa Forums. A caveat before you start...back up the registry before making any changes. If you don't know how to do this, please ask and I will offer step by step instructions. With no other application running, run the Uninstaller you downloaded earlier. In the Registry editor (regedit), navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\DistributionUnits\(D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000) In the Left-hand pane, right-click on the key (folder) named (D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000), and choose Delete.
