Thirty-Something for me too.. that was a favorite of mine!

I want my kids to sit down on Sunday evening and watch "The Muppet Show" like I remember doing when I was a kid. I could still sing along with the theme song. Loved the old men in the balcony who complained, Miss Piggy and Kermit, Gonzo and Fozzy... Yeah, that's my favorite childhood TV memory.

And when's the last time "Wizard of Oz" was on TV? That was an annual tradition when I was a kid. I was on a school bus full of 1st and 3rd graders for a field trip recently. Long story... it was raining and I told a 3rd grader he was not sweet enough or wicked enough to melt. He didn't get the reference, I explained like the wicked witch melts in Wizard of Oz when Dorothy throws water on her. All the kids around me started blankly. Of the 14-15 kids close enough to ask, only 2 had seen the movie!! I was shocked! How can this be, a generation that doesn't know the "Wizard of Oz?"

I'd suggest the class watch it, but in the politically correct world, it wouldn't surprise me if it's not allowed for some bizarre reason. Munchins might be offensive, I don't know.

My kids know it. DD loves it, is familiar with the songs from it as well as from the newer musical "Wicked."

Another Red Skelton Show lover here. I can hear my dad laughing as he laid on the floor watching it.

Jannie, we have that Peter Pan movie staring Mary Martin on tape. I love the music from it. We have seen it done on local stage plays and always enjoy it. I also like (and also have on tape) the old Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella with Lesley Ann Warren. They have a newer version of that but I didn't like it at all.

Stephanie, how sad if kids never get to see The Wizard of Oz.

My kids love The Wizard of Oz. I think we have it on CD. They also like Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

I also miss "Land of the Lost". I loved the part where they went over the waterfall and the sleestaks (sp?) and Chacka (sp?) the ape boy.

I also loved to watch "BJ and the Bear". Wasn't there a Wonder Woman/Shazam hour on the cartoons on Saturday morning? My kids don't understand that we only had a few hours to watch cartoons each week.

The Wonderful World of Disney - that's my Sunday night tv memory. How great it was to have Tinker Bell fly around Cinderella's castle ( or go even further back and have Walt himself introduce the show) and then have one of the cartoon movies come on!!! Oh what a thrill that was.
I loved the animal movies too.

Jannie- I do remember that, but the thing that has stuck with me is that they had a separate set of stairs that went straight to the kitchen. I loved that! I know a lot of other shows did too, a lot, but that was the house for me.

I've had a crush on Michael Bein (sp?) ever since he guest starred in an episode. Buddy had a crush on him and so did I.

There is a real estate commercial on right now with that actress that used to be on a soap (Ryan's Hope I think) and I swear in the beginning she is standing in front of that house.

Loved Marcus Welby as a kid. Also Julia and Medical Center, Emergency, The Monkees, Sonny & Cher, Adam 12, Chips, Love American Style, I Dream of Jeannie, Night Gallery, Perry Mason.

It was Isis and Shazaam. There was another one that was like Godzilla and I can't remember the name. It was Japanese, My brother and I loved it. The guy would pull out this thing and a giant robot guy thing would appear and fight the monsters attacking the city.

DH and I were just talking about Saturday morning cartoons and how great that was. So much better then 24 hour cartoons. They don't even show Bugs Bunny anymore.

I liked the baby dinosaur on Land of the Lost, that was a fun show.

What about the Loretta Young show, Lawrence Welk and Your Hit Parade. Loved those shows along with Red Skelton.

Would that be Gigantor?

There was a cartoon that ran on TV in 1979 on ABC for Thanksgiving.
It was called "An Intergalactic Thanksgiving".
I would love to add that one to my collection.

I would to see Love American Style, Mod Squad, and The FBI again. A couple of Lassie hits would probably do me good too. Nothing like a daily cry when Timmy and Lassie get in a bind. That show used to just break my heart. No wonder I take in every stray animal that comes upon me.

The Wizard of Oz was just on a few weeks ago. My 4 1/2 year old watched it and I was surprised that it held his interest and how much he retained from it (he has a short attention span). I forget what channel it aired on - one of the major cable networks.

I was just looking into buying The Muppet Show on DVD a couple of weeks ago. I might get one for my son for Christmas.

Do any of you remember Cloris Leachman in "Phyllis" a spinoff from Mary Tyler Moore? I loved that show and wish I could see reruns.

TVLand is losing me quickly to the Hallmark channel. Their new TV Land Prime is the pits. IF they only showed them during prime time, and left the rest of their schedule as 'classic tv', I'd say okay, but they show them off/on all day long. The day an announcer proudly said (as if it was a good thing) "we're not just classic tv anymore", I felt sick and sad inside. Give me back the good old shows that were worth my time watching.

Pam Dawber had a show with another woman who was tragically murdered and the show was cancelled. Can't remember the name of it but it was so good.

"The Powers That Be", a Norman Lear series that was only on for one season in the early 80's and it is not on DVD or anything, but I have severel episodes on VHS. It was HYSTERICAL!

Shows that had great writers, those are the shows that I miss. Due South, for example. Clever, sweet, witty, charming. Sue Thomas, F.B. Eye.

If I remember correctly that show was called My Sister Sam and Rebecca Schaefer was the girl murdered. But I think the show was already cancelled by the time she was killed.

About Lassie, I would cry when it was coming on, cry all durning the show and then cry because it was going off. and I am still Ms waterworks today.

I know this show is not an oldie, The Reba Show, I really miss her show. She's on tour now with Kelly, the 2 worlds 2 voices tour.

I love, love, love watching "Leave it to Beaver". Some others are Mannix, the Carol Burnett Show and I had not thought about it in a long time but would love to see "Dark Shadows".

St Elsewhere...it was quirky and an off-center sense of humor. I loved all the characters...and I think it was their ending that was the beginning of the surprise endings if shows.

Newhart...the last one, set in Vermont. Loved Larry and his brothers "Darryl and my other brother Darryl".
This last episode was the biggest surprise.

Anyone remember the elephant show, with sharon, lois and bram? Wish that would still be on for my grandson.

When I was a kid,I watched Capt. Kangaroo,Romper Room, Ding Dong School with Miss Frances, various cartoon shows (Popeye,Betty Boop), the Original Mickey Mouse Club (with Annette), Topper, and Ed Sullivan. I clearly remember the first Sunday night the Beatles were on and excitedly talking about them at school the next day. Why are all the variety shows gone? Carol Burnett,Dean Martin, etc. The only shows like that at all are on late night,like Jay Leno's Tonight (which will be ending), Letterman, Saturday Night Live. Conan O"Brien, and Late Night with Colin Ferguson. When my kids were little they liked Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers. He was so gentle and calming.

I rented Season One of "Family Affair" from netflix this winter...that show always gave me the warm fuzzies...I loved Buffy and Mrs. Beasley...it breaks my heart that Buffy died at such an early age..(18)...

My hubster would love to have Skyking back on!! he watched WSB Retro channel lots and it runs lots of his old favs!

There's so many mentioned that are great so I won't repeat. One I always enjoyed was short-lived. Called Roll Out. Sort of a rip off of M*A*S*H with about an all-black army outfit. The guy in charge, I can picture him but don't recall his name, he's a well known actor was always yelling allright you lame brain double clutchers, let's rollout!!

And of course Gilligan's Island, still have a soft spot for Dawn Wells. Sanford & Son. There was a show called Eisenhower & Lutz starring the guy that was on Quantum Leap. He was a lawyer starting out and he faked a partner "Mr. Eisenhower" as his partner to give credibility. LA Law. I like good lawyer shows. That show called Justice that was on about a year ago. Only lasted the summer but that was great. They would show at the end how it really happened. Nice variation to an old theme.

Then there were shows like I Married Joan that were so bad I enjoyed watching just to laugh about how bad they were. It was much like I Love Lucy and starred Jim Backus.

Old movies too like the Charlie Chan series, Marx Brothers etc.

TV used to be so different - and so much better back then. I loved the variety shows, too. My grandma loved Lawrence Welk, and we both watched Perry Como & Jackie Gleason every week, along with Dean Martin. I loved Carol Burnett & her cast of characters. No big deal if I can't watch TV these days. I don't feel I miss much. :-

Marita40, I grew up in the "Chicagoland" area, as they say, and I loved Garfield Goose, too.

If you get WGN, every year on Christmas Eve, they run a special showing those old childhood favorites--HardRock, Coco & Joe, Suzy Snowflake and some of the other serial story favorites from that show. I love seeing the old puppets & Frazier Thomas. They also have clips from Bozo the Clown, & the Ray Raynor Show. Gotta love early TV.

I would like to see a Carol Burnett marathon on some station. I'd be glued to my seat all day and night, and so would DH. The skits with Burnett, Conway, and Korman were priceless. And the time Carol basically dared a young man from the audience to come up and sing, and he did, and did a WONDERFUL job with "What I did for love." And the time Carol had Beverly Sills on the show, and sang with her. Chills! A locked chord whenever I hear it still gives chills!

As a kid, we didn't have TV. But later, I remember George Goeble's gentle humor, and Tennessee Ernie, and Perry Como.
Yes, I miss the variety shows. Who knows what we'd see if that format was brought back? I don't even want to think about it.
