It's 7:30 and I've had zero trick or treaters :(

Don't know why I expected this year to be any different from any other.

GS went t&t'ing on a flatbed truck with lots of other kids. My 7 y/o GS did not want to t&t. Last year they practically forced him. This year he just stayed home with his dad. Didn't even do the trunk or treat at the church last night. Anyone else have a kid that didn't like t&t'ing?

Best thing about halloween is roasting the pumpkin seeds!

We used to get about 200 kids. It is 8pm and we have had only 15 this year. Have lots of kids playing cards and play doh left.

Me, too, but then again, my door is closed. In the 7 years I've lived here, zero.

I will come to your party Teacats! We are very hit and miss at our house. The layout of our street is odd...we are on the long end of the road, that has multiple connectors or cul de sacs, so on our section, there are just 3 houses that face the street. All the other houses on our section are corner lots, except for us and our next door neighbor, and both his houses are dark. So kids would have to cross the road to come to our place, and it's just not that feasible. And this year I didn't do any decorating, so I think we'll have a dark house too. Plus, there are so many events going on this weekend, that I just can't see too many parents dressing up the kids on a school night.

Well, my aunt kept asking me if I saw any notices about T or T in her allotment but I never did. Then yesterday when I drove over to pick her up to take her to an appt. I saw a hand made sign at the first intersection of the streets inside the allotment saying "Trick or Treat Saturday 4pm". Normally my aunt said they put a notice in everyone's mailbox. We wondered just how many people would notice that sign? Perhaps not many, as there didn't seem to be very many houses with porch lights on at all (the signal to kids that the house is participating in handing out treats). I don't recall what night it's usually held, but pretty sure not on Halloween night. Besides, it was a big football night for some area high schools so could have been where everybody was instead.

Trick or Treat hours are 4:30 to 8 p.m. in our town. We stay dark now, after sitting and waiting and getting only a maximum of ten kids the last year we participated. (Houses on 1 - 10 acres.) Seems to me Halloween is *always* windy and rainy; it was here, but is to be in the 70's later this week. Our DIL's parents live in a Chicago neighborhood where there are plenty of kids plus those bused in from poor neighborhoods. They spend $500 a year on candy!

Over the years it's varied a lot. Lots of turnover in the neighborhood. Now it's at the point of very few kids and the last several years the weather wasn't the best for trick-or-treaters so there wasn't a lot of them out there, plus with my own health issues it's limited my ability to participate. And there's a lot of alternative activities for the paranoid. What has bothered me is when I see carloads, vanloads of kids being dropped off at one end of the block and picked up down the block. When I started seeing that, I shut down. If you're going trick-or-treating you get off your butts and walk like I did. If someone is on crutches or in a wheelchair, then fine, but otherwise, get out and walk it. My other problem is when people think putting on a jacket is a costume. If you want something from me, I want to at least see a costume. That's what it's all about. I don't have a problem with late teens, even older as long as they follow the rules. While I kind of like the idea of the teal pumpkin thing I have a problem with having to worry about EVERY problem a kid may or may not have. I feel more empathy for the diabetic kids. But their problem is how to mainstream yet communicate they can't have the normal candy treats. My sister used to get a bunch of cheap crayons, coloring books and things like that but to differentiate between those who can have candy and who cannot is a problem. She just gave them out to everyone but she gets into Halloween a lot more than I do. Not many holidays I really get into. Never really did all that much especially as I get older.

we started out giving handfuls of the good candy bars and now we have sooo many more kids than last yr we're gonna be out by 9pm :-( i do have a box of Act ll popcorn balls i guess we could use... usually 3-4 big bags of the candy bars & tootsi pops is enough but not this yr. ~ liz

We live at the edge of town on a very busy street so we never get any kids. Of course I save a bundle of $$$ not buying candy but it's not the same as when I was young.

I went thru 10 bags of candy and was close to running out so I shut off the lights and closed the door. I ran out much earlier this year. The kids are still going up and down the street.

We don't get very many either. A nearby mall has trick-or-treating and literally thousands of kids in costume go there every year. It's just as well, my dogs go bonkers when someone rings the doorbell anyway.

I had completely forgotten about T & Ters until I read this. Not a one here. I'm glad I only bought a small bag of candy.

We had 19 kids this year, the most we have had in 7 years. At our old house we used to get 200 kids.

We've lived here for almost 17 years, and haven't had even one trick or treater. Guess being in an isolated area, with a 650-foot-long, unlighted driveway is intimidating. I actually miss having the kids...

Same as Wanda...isolated area, and very long, dark driveway.
The only kids here in masks tonight are the raccoons, and I gave them 70 lb. of dog food.

we had one very cute little boy and that has been it so far and now we turned off the lights. We did however have a big fat possum at the back door eating the food I put out for the kittens I saw out in the yard last night.

Same here, 900 foot dark, curvy driveway = no trick or treaters!! But we have had the four footed masked tricksters and our nightly visit with our possum buddy. They had cat food and chicken tonight.

Well, last year I had only 5 as compared to the 150+ in past years. So I decided to not buy candy and sat with the lights out for a while! A niece brought her two kids to the back door, but I expected them.

We had 78 and ran out of candy. Last year 59.
The last ones got a handful of
candy I was saving for some handicapped
kids that couldn't come to the door.
