Mom's passing and seeing dragonflies

I have seen "flocks" of dragonflies everywhere since mom has died. In my yard (we aren't close to water), in her yard, at the Chincoteague trailer.

The other day I went to check her sheds and a dragonfly was sitting on the door of the first one I checked.

The one that startled me the most was yesterday though. My friend rented a u-haul to move. They didn't have the smaller one she wanted.

I walked out through the snow to see a 6' tall dragonfly painted on the side of the U-Haul truck. I had to catch my breath!

If this is mom's way of saying she is OK, I am grateful for it. Kathy

Oh Kathy,
I would love to see something that Mom is telling me that she (and I) are okay.

Embrace the dragonflies.....something that you normally didn't see before, and so often is definitely a sign from her.

Tara, it is just amazing how I can relate to your story as well. I was in Philadelphia on campus when I got a call from my sister at right about 5:00PM when she notified me of my mom's passing. And recently, I have been spending most of my time with my good friend who is also a Christian. I asked him how to convert someone into Christian if there's no "legitimate proof" that a non-christian would believe in. He told me that the proof is clear and its everywhere..it's just that we fail to recognize them. Well, I'm guessing 5:00PM is good! I'm not sure if I'm making any sense right now, but I believe that all of our moms are having a wonderful time right now, especially since we all have faith in Him. I think the best way to interpret the reason behind our mothers' early departure is to bring us closer to Him. I just read a verse in the Bible last night and it says that if you are able to give up anything for Him, even a family member, you will find eternal happiness in Heaven. My mom's passing reminds me of how much she loved me. Sacrifice is love I heard...how Son of God died for our sins. If I didn't have faith..I probably would have gone crazy. The more I try to understand Him, the less painful it gets. I know..it's hard to keep up with all of the prayers everyday...but try to think more about God and try to appreciate everything that has happened. Appreciate even the smallest thing, like a nice weather you know... It sounds crazy, I know, but everything really happens for the good of us. I wish I knew the exact answer to this but I'm sure He is putting us through such testimony to make us into someone better. Remember that we only have one chance in life... so make the best out of it to serve Him. And start going to church if you havn't....I have been really good about going to church since my mom's passing, but every week, I learn something new and something relevant. For example...we had an Easter prayer meeting last Friday and the pastor reminded us about His love and to love one another like how He loves us. He also mentioned to ask forgiveness (to someone you know...ie friends) if you did something wrong in the past. The following day, I was on AIM and saw my very first GF online. I told her I was sorry for what happened before and she actually said "it's okay it's past." It is just crazy...for EIGHT years, she has not said a word to me and has been ignoring me since I tried to talk to her after the breakup (I was a jerk...). I felt 100x better than what I was after being forgiven...So I strongly encourage everyone to keep their faith strong and try to go to church regularly. Going to Heaven is not all about going to church though...it's about your personal relations with God. I hope everyone is doing well and please KIT! This forum is also very helpful for me as well... My father died 25 years ago yet every time I talk with him during the day as if he’s alive he visits me in my dreams. he left my young mother who was 11 years younger and each time I dream of him he has a message for me for my mother. he cane to me in a dream one night.. the dream was he was sleeping in a hotel with my mother and I walked into their bedroom. I saw my mothers diamond which shone brightly. The next day we hung out and I looked at the diamond my father had given her and one large diamond was missing. We had done some errands and I pointed out to her the diamond was gone. She went home very sad and crying. while in my vehicle picking up my daughter I looked in the cup holder and to my surprise the diamond was in the cup holder. Just recently I moved onto my mothers house downstairs. The week before at my former apartment I saw many pennies and 1111 cane to me via clocks and phones. I thought of my father who must be happy that I’m moving in. One morning I awoke and I sat up in bed at 7 am and next to me was my father holding a small suitcase. Beyond him was the closet but the closet was not a closet but a it was a portal. Around the portal was a white circular light that had depth and he was standing in it with his head to the side. I looked in awe and I blurted DAD.. and he was standing in a beautiful suit with a hat like he was 40 years old. I was so awestruck. I jumped out of bed and he disappeared. later that day when in work I looked at the calendar and realized it was his birthday November 14...I was so blessed!! He cane to tell me it was his birthday. I was in the hospital when he took his last breadth. Soon after he cane to me in a dream and he was still sick but he had angel wings and I was touching them and they were pinching my fingers I asked him When are you going to heaven and he said 40 days in a whisper twice he said that. When I went to the priest to ask him what this meant the priest responded that the soul stays on earth 40 days and then goes to heaven (catholic). And Greek When he was dying I had an out of body experience. My body was floating in the hospital room above him. I felt every breadth he took as if we were one. I traveled with him to heaven. I saw beautiful colors and we were traveling over incrediblly vivid landscapes and my brain knew that his brain was entering a beautiful vista of colors and I was flying over heaven with him. I will never forget this out of body experience. Don’t know how it happened or why but I know there is another existence beyond our comprehension as humans. When I awoke that morning I was on the floor and my legs were on the bed. I awoke and went to the hospital and he died at 2 :44 pm. I knew he went to the other side. I was there with him. After that day I knew that the spirit of man lives .. it never dies. Their dna lives in each and every one of us. We have to connect in spirit to live with them. They will come to you. All you have to do is ask them to come!! Talk to them. Ask them questions and be patient for their answers. Each time I go to the cemetery I talk to him like he’s alive and I ask him to give me a sign that he hears me. Every time he responds by the sun breaking through the clouds and it is the cloud of an angel in the sky or two birds landing on his grave stone or a wind pushing a branch over his grave stone or something beyond comprehension. Talk to them like they are alive and you will see or hear something extraordinary. Trust yourself and your belief in a higher dimension and you will never be lonely!! I always believed an will continue to believe that the dead are not dead but live in every one of us. The dead have more power than the living. You just have to tap into it! Don’t cry act like they are still here. They can hear you!! Be blessed!!❤️

I'm so sorry you lost your beloved mother. You've got 2 things going on here: 1. You've lost your mother. 2. You're hurt & somewhat offended that your father is going on without her. Assuming that your father hasn't fallen under the spell of a 23-year-old Playboy centerfold.... I'd say get on your knees & thank your guardian fairy angel godmother that your father is healthy & happy & has someone special in his life. You've lost a mother, but he's lost a life partner, one he's had for most of his life. So many times, when a long-married person dies, the other spouse just fades away & is gone within one to two years, & at age 84, 8 months is a very long time to grieve & a very long time to live unhappily alone. Try to separate your grief from your desire to have your dad become a living monument to someone who is gone. (Would your mother want him to be a monument, or would she want him to find love again?) Give him your blessing, & be grateful that you have a vibrant, happy, alive father rather than one you have to carry around on your shoulders because he's too immobilized by grief to continue on his own. Instead of intubating my mother on Thursday, we asked the doctors to give her something to at a least help her calm down...they administered a morphine drip...she passed away on Friday morning at 11:30 am. (throughout my mother's numerous hospitalizations, I called the hospital nurses' station to ask about her progress because I was normally caring for her at home; my body clock automatically had me up at specific hours throughtout the night because i would be checking on my mom's oxygen levels, or making sure that she ate to prevent nausea.

I think dragonflies must be very connected to us. I've heard of similar experiences from others, and a couple of years ago I had one of my own.....

A friend of my late daughter Gillian's drowned a couple of years ago. His mother told me she was seeing dragonflies where she hadn't seen them before, and this was significant because dragonflies were special to her and her son. The next day I was driving down my dirt road, nowhere near water, when something came into my peripheral vision. I turned my head to the left, and saw a dragonfly outside the window, keeping pace with my car. This continued for some time down the road. It was really extraordinary, and I was aware of the significance immediately.

Many years ago I heard someone on TV (either Nanette Fabray or Gisele Mackenzie) say dragonflies are good at picking up our thoughts, and this makes it relatively easy to communicate with them. A decade or so later, I remembered that when a swarm of dragonflies showed up at a Little League game I was watching. On impulse, I silently asked one to land on my left hand. And it did!

All of which is simply saying I'm sure this is indeed your mom's way of saying she's okay.

Have you ever read The Story of the Dragonfly? I got a Dragpnfly tattoo in Memory of my husband..and that led to a collection of Dragonflies!! ;)

Hearing your story makes my heart happy.
I find pennies from my son, Scott, who died in 1977.
A loss is never easy but seeing those signs make life a little more joyful.

I'm sure it was a message. I've had similar messages from my loved ones. A woman I know said when her grown daughter died (who loved butterflies), she went home and was working in her garden and a butterfly came and stayed with her, for the longest time, following her around the garden as she worked.

I've come to believe that those we love often find a way to let us know they're fine, if we just open our eyes and look for it.

I, too, am certain that those dragonflies are conveying the message that all is well with your Mom. In our family, we see orange butterflies that follow us and remind us that our precious granddaughter is still very much with us. Orange was her favorite color and butterflies were her favorites.

My friend and her little girl used to pick the gardenias and put them around the house and there never seemed to be enough. Well...long story short...my friend loss her eleven year old daughter and guess what? All of sudden there were more gardenias than ever before! My friend just knew that her precious Denise was saying..."I'm okay mom and all these are just for you".

My mother was a Christian and died with a pleasant smile on her face, she was ready for heaven and probably saw Jesus.

Kathy, I love that. I truly believe that the dragonflies are her gift to you, telling you she is happy and the dragonflies are watching over you and giving you peace for her passing. Awesome.

Yes dragonflies are important to our family also. When my nephew was killed 5 years ago by a drunk driver, suddenly dragonflies appeared around his parents house. The evening after the funeral, there were a bunch of young adults in my sisters backyard telling stories and sharing memories of Tyler when someone noticed a dragonfly flying around everyone. The dragonfly stayed the whole night. They had a dragonfly etched on his gravestone and the day it was put up a dragonfly flew by and stopped on it. We feel its a sign from Tyler telling us he is ok.

After reading all the replies...I'm definitely going to read the dragonfly story. It feels good to know there are still many inspiring things going on around all of us for different reasons.
Kathy...I'm sorry for your loss and I'm glad the dragonflies are bringing you a little comfort. My mom is 88 and she likes butterflies and I've heard some amazing butterfly stories as well.

I had dragon fly visits for several weeks after my husband died last year...I found it very comforting. This year I havent seen one at all so I'm hoping its a sign that he know i'm getting on with things...and that I'm coping! (I always said that I wouldnt be able to cope and he always said that I would!)

Sunshine, I don't think my MOM is a dragonfly! I also know if there is any way to do it - she would send signs. We had a wonderful minister in Mom's final weeks and he assured us that even though Mom wasn't a regular churchgoer - he was sure she went to heaven - and so am I.

The dragonfly story is lovely.

After my grandfather passed, I found coins and over 10 years later - I still find them in unusual places. Probably the most unusual was the penny I picked off the roof of my car (right above my seat) after I had driven miles on bouncy old roads.

Thanks all for sharing your stories..they bring comfort to me and hopefully to all of us.

Here's my death and dragonfly related story:

My father died when I was 19 (I'm now 52) and we were very close. Unfortunately, he doesn't come to me in dreams anymore, but I think of him almost everyday and talk to his picture often wondering what he'd be like if he was still alive.

I went to a psychic party a few years ago and was told that when I see a dragonfly, it's my father/spirit around me. I told her I haven't seen a dragonfly in a long time so I was disappointed in her saying that (I see lots of butterflies since we have a butterfly bush). The next day while I was in my back yard, there was a dragonfly sitting on the walkway plain as day. I saw dragonflies, one at a time, for several days after that, then none (and none this past summer). When/if I do see one, it always makes me smile.

My husband bought me a beautiful white gold & diamond dragonfly necklace for Xmas as a reminder.
