Fracture in my ankle

I went to my reg Dr today & was telling her how much my ankle still hurt. She suggested I go for a x-ray on the ankle just to be sure nothing is wrong.

I have a fracture of the fibula & will go to the Dr tomorrow to see what needs to be done if anything.

The thing is this was hurt the first time I fell & that was 7 weeks ago & I have been walking on it that long.

I am so upset with my Dr because a month ago I told him just how much the ankle hurt & was 3-4 times its size by the end of the day. He said not to worry it was from the knee surgery & I did not need a x-ray. OH how wrong he was.

Some day things will get better with me.

Is this the same Dr. and are you seeing an Orthapedic dr?
Just curious.
In 7 weeks it has started to heal and hope won't need surgery in the future. Be firm and insist they check it out good.

I can vouch for it! When I trained for my last marathon, when I hit 18 or 20 miles in the once-weekly long, slow run...I dropped about 6 - 8 lbs every 2 weeks. (we would do 18, then drop back to 10, then do 20, drop back to 10...) I'm starting another marathon training group soon (Jeff Galloway for the Feb 2008 Breast Cancer Marathon in Jacksonville!) and I'm hoping to lose all this extra weight I have put back on since the last marathon (50 lbs in the past 2 1/2 years!)

I had a stress fracture once in my foot. Just plain walking caused it. My doctor told me they are often called "March fractures" because they are common in the military, from all the marching they do. He told me I had my choice of a cast or a pair of really good shoes. He named New Balance or another name I no longer remember. And I was not to so much as put my foot on the floor (except to shower) without my shoes on, for six weeks. I got the shoes, & did as he said. It did take the full six weeks to heal. I guess because of location, things of this nature on the foot or ankle just take time to heal. Even with your 'boot' on, there is strain on your ankle, so it will take time. Let us know how you do. Rusty

My dr. set my wrist and even with a novacaine injection, it was very painful. The cast comes off in two weeks and so far, no surgery. My fingers are still very swollen, esp. around the joint area, so I can't bend my fingers. Doctor said if I didn't start moving them, I am going to have a claw hand. I try to bend them, but they aren't bending very far due to stiffness. I also try to bend them back a little, but I'm worried I'll so something and hurt my injured wrist. The cast goes right up to my knuckles. I wasn't told any kind of exercises to do except to get these fingers moving.This has been an ordeal I don't want to go through again. Any advice on helping my fingers loosen up? I am going to try he heating pad tomorrow.

Okay, here's the update. Got home around midnight from my 9PM dr's appt. They were SO backed up, but the dr. was very nice, and he didn't rush me through, even though it was after 11 when he finally came in to see me. He said what happened is that instead of tearing a couple of tendons, they pulled away, bringing little bits of bone with them--which he claims is much better than actually damaging the tendons themselves. I'm in a removable boot--YEAH!!!, so I can shower, and will be able to walk on it in a bit. Have to wear it about 4 weeks, but after 2, won't have to wear it at night. He also highly recommended taking 3000mgs Vit. C a day. Swears it helps heal fractures in older patients--yep, that would be me. So I'll up my dose (and keep close to the bathroom for the next few days). If it helps, it will definitely be worth it. Well, I'm off--going to turn this off, take some motrin and hit the sack--it's after 1 in the morning. Long day.

Oh, Mary. That must be disappointing, to be recovering from the knee then have a second issue go undiagnosed to deal with too.

Things will get better, just keep being patient (and I don't mean ' a patient ' ;)), take care of yourself.

That's too bad. I fractured my ankle one time and walked around on it for two weeks before I saw a doctor. I thought it was badly sprained , as I had done before. The doc said I was lucky I hadn't broken it right through. He put an air cast on it and it healed just fine.I hope yours does too.

I am seeing a orthopedic Dr tomorrow but not the one who did my knee. I am going to one about 1 hr. from us & has been recommended by my reg. Dr.

I am sure it has started to heal but the pain has gotten worse over the past 3 weeks. I will do whatever has to be done but I hope it is not surgery.
