My FIL found a pair of woman's panties under a rock in the pasture behind his house. He had 3 unmarried sons at the time so he just guessed to whom they might belong. Many local people visited a stream that ran through his land so he could not really know who had been there.

No, I did not lose my britches, but he teased several young ladies, including me, until he died.

Many moons ago, I got home after an evening on the town, and realized I'd lost my skirt - still had my slip on, but my skirt was gone - went back to the scene of the crime and found it the next morning, laying on the ground - enough said!

When we were first married I went to the laundrymat. There was no one around. I got hungry waiting for my clothes to dry...went to the grocery store next door...came back and there was a girl leaving with a laundry basket. I opened my dryer and sure enough she'd gone through my clothes and taken 3 pairs of pants.

Haven't lost any pants but DH has hunted high and low for new T-shirt he bought. It has just disappeared! We've looked everywhere!

I'm glad you specified they were capris because a few months ago as I was going into a Greek restaurant to pick up a to go order I noticed a fancy pair of womens underwear lying out front. At least we know they weren't yours. :)

I was shocked to see them there. The restaurant is in a nice part of town and lots of foot traffic so I'd love to hear the story of how they happened to be there. LOL

Mammie--maybe that's the type of restaurant that costs an arm and a leg PLUS a pair of panties!

The tumbling drum of many dryers have 3 blades in the drum. Sometimes when the drum stops in just the right postiion, one of these blade will be in the top half of the drum and at an angle such that it can hold one or two articles of clothing. From a standing position, you can not see these. Most often, I get shorted a sock or two this way, but never a large item. I suggest that you go back to your dryer, bend over and look up inside the drum.

The other way I get shorted is to sort the laundry inot more than one load. On occassion, an article of clothing will get misplaced into the wrong load. It shows up after the second load is processed. Again, the most misplaced item is a sock.

The thrid place I loose an article is this way: My wife and I use a common laundry chute so both our garments lie in single heap on the basement floor. We each do our own laundry so during seprating the pile into "his" and "hers", an item or two migrates to the other pile. When this happens, it may be a week or more before a missing item or mine turns up.

If you hung your clothes outside on a clothes-line, maybe the wind blew it away or the dog decided to play with it. (Yes, the dog did it.) If you have pranksters (vandals) in the neighborhood, nothing is safe on the clothes-line.

Never lost pants but am losing one sock every few weeks and they are ALWAYS mine, not his. I wear little short white ankle socks, but they are all white, but different. I looked everywhere in the washer, dryer , although I rarely ever use it and outside where I hang my clothes. Frustrating.

no, but DM has until I put them in the laundry (back when we wore the same size).

Also DM & I both have grabbed a bunch of hangers headed for a specific closet, not realizing that a unintended was among them, and put them in the intended closet with the unintended included.

OR could someone have disliked them enough to "donate them for you"?

WOO HOO!! I just found them. I thought maybe they got put in Harry's armoire by mistake, but they weren't there. So I finally took all my capris out of my armoire and, by golly, there they were. They were underneath the brown and white pair that's just like them, but not lined up with the rest so they were hidden.

Thanks jemdandy for your tips--I tried them all (except for the laundry chute, which I don't have, but wish I did).

l.marie, that's my trick--"donating" Harry's clothes. He never misses them and most of the time they're so old they get donated to the trash (underneath other stuff--sshhh).

Can you come over and help us find the missing pair of pillow-cases? We can't for the life of us find the ones that match the one set of bedding.

Harry lost a set of our pillow cases once, Jasdip. He left them in the motel--along with our down pillows. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy about losing either one of them. Hope you find yours!

Don't be too hard on Harry. We spent a few days in Key West a couple of weeks ago. We checked out of the hotel and headed toward home. About 50 miles later I remembered I left my special pillow there, so we had to back track and get it. Good thing my husband is easy going. LOL

Seriously, though... I've lost a few items. Back maybe 25-30 years ago, I lost the top and pants that I was wearing when we took family photos for my parent's 45th wedding anniversary. I don't know if they went home in someone else's bag, or what ever happened to them. And more recently, I lot a pretty blue t-shirt. Most of my t-shirts are man styled, but this was a pretty scoop necked, short sleaved t-shirt and I absolutely loved it. Wore it with jeans all the time when I wanted to dress them up a little. This shirt along with a pretty necklace would do it. We have a house in Michigan and at the time had one in Minnesota. I always figured I hauled it to MN with me, but next time I was there, the shirt wasn't! That's been over a year ago. We've since emptied everything out of the MN house and rented it out and I never did find that t-shirt! You wonder, where in the world can things GO to disappear like that!

I've left pillows in motels, too.... not anymore though! This is my traveling pillowcase.

I lost my favorite sweatshirt jacket about 30 years ago, it was so cute and warm and I have no idea whatever happened to it, I searched and searched.

Whenever something goes missing now, it's usually been folded up and stuck in Woody's dresser instead of mine.

Hmm, maybe I should make pillow cases out of those capris. The print is very similar. The reason the pillows got left behind is because we'd been on the road a little over a week and every morning I packed everything up that we'd taken out of the car. Of course, I always have to take one last walk-through to make sure I didn't forget anything, which makes Harry a little crazy, I think. So that morning, I decided to let him do it and took a long hot shower, got dressed and made up then breezed out the door and into the car. We were home before I realized we didn't have the pillows. Called the motel, but of course they hadn't seen them. Grrr!

I think your missing pants are somewhere having a party with all my missing socks!

Patti, I neglected to tell you the whole story. The restaurant is run by a Greek bachelor and his mother. I've known him for a number of years and so decided I would mention it to him when I was paying for my order. He kept thanking and thanking me for bringing it to his attention and said he had to get out there and dispose of them because they would be a turn off to his customers. When I left he was trying to come up with a way to go out there and retrieve them without touching them and doing it so no one noticed him getting them. LOL

Mammie, if you hadn't told him, I bet he'd wonder why business had taken a plunge. Should told him to put on his hasmat suit!! :-)

I have an old insulated jacket, whose sleeves had rents that I managed to get mainly fixed on the sewing machine some months ago ... I'm pretty sure that it was rescued from the roadside, a year or so ago. I wear it around the place, in the garden, barn, etc. ... and took it somewhere the other day, and just can't find it.

It's sure to turn up, cause I don't wear it off of the property, and would like it, these days, as it's comfy and the days are getting chilly.

Plus there's still quite a bit of work to do in the garden.

Oh, well ... you win a few ... and you lose a few!

OJ, did you get warm and take it off while you were gardening? Maybe you laid it down out there. If you did, an animal could've dragged it off. Winter will be here soon, you know.
