How is your freezer organized? I need to get a bin or something to put in there. I've got tons of vacuumed packages in there that slide out, fall all over the place when I'm trying to find something.

And I've got a ton of tupperware containers I want to get rid of. They are old and stained and take up a whole cupboard that I could sure use for other things, but what else do you use for food storage or transport?

Plastic baskets for in the freezer. You can pull them out and quickly see what's in them.
I've also started using those Glad or ZipLock storage containers. They're cheap, and can be washed and reused. When they get cracked or warped, I don't feel bad when I have to toss one.

live_wire_oakGood point! We're planning 4 can lights in the kitchen (3000k LEDs) plus the island light. Debbi WashburnThose are helpful! I'm def. not a huge fan of upper cabinets. Mainly because I'm short and they aren't very useful for me. But also in black I feel like they darken the room way more than the lower cabinets. I'm planning to only do uppers to the left and right of my stove then floating shelves to coordinate with the butcher block to the left and right of the sink. Our kitchen will be L shaped with an island in the middle and a walk in pantry in the corner. What color do you think I should go with on the door?? Here are some of the other things I'm considering. Input welcome! Nothing is set in stone yet, but I'm feeling the pressure to make all these decisions soon :/ Backsplash: What about green for the knobs instead? These are slightly more muted. Or just stick with antique brass like the handles below? I really love these...will they go with black cabinets?? Here are the two options I'm considering for the island light: or 2 of these: These are all things I like...but do they go together?? That's the hardest part for me.

We intalled a simple outdoor BBQ area this past January. A natural gas grill, shelf for BGE & some underneath storage. No sink/fridge as our kitchen is just a few steps away. No regrets regarding the sink. A fridge would have been a nice luxury for overflow beverages but definitely not a necessity. We are very happy with the Lynx Grill that was installed. The top is leathered Steel Grey granite- super dense, not sealed and pretty impervious to anything we have spilled. We are in Florida so no snow/freeze issues. If you install the grill cabinet on top of a cement pad you will save $ on the reclaimed brick & install of same. No need to set it on brick as you won't see it. Ours was installed adjacent to a raised brick porch and we just poured the pad to the same level as the porch. Only error we made is the shelf that the Egg sits on should be tilted slightly so any rainwater that falls back there can drain off. Otherwise very happy with "kitchen". The natural gas line is a game changer- no more empty propane tanks in the middle of a cookout.

If the biggest changes are occurring in the kitchen you probably want to get a kitchen designer or interior designer on board to work on kitchen layout which would then help to determine if some of the existing doorways, say to the new mudroom and to the LR need to be moved, and to what position. I would want to divide the mudroom space to include at the least a powder room if not a powder room + shower for the bedroom at that end of the house, and I would also want direct access from the kitchen or dining room to the outside. There also does not seem to be reasonable access to the new bedroom space (old den) from anywhere in the floorplan right now, except the new mudroom space. I believe I would want it accessed from the LR. and the only spot for that is near the front door, or by creating a short hallway where the back of that large closet is, if possible.

But, but, but, it surely doesn't cost "thousands" to install undercabinet lighting! Here is one undercabinet light (wireless) for under $20 . Granted it was 10 years ago, but we added undercabinet lighting to our existing kitchen cabinets (wired). I purchased the lights at home depot and had an electrician come out. I'm sure it didn't even take him more than a few hours (?). When you open my freezer please make sure you have your shoes on, because something is going to fall out, and a frozen anything on a naked tootsie does not feel good.
Mine actually has a bin in the bottom, now that you mention it. I'll have to check and see what is in it, but it would be an excellent place to store all those seal a meal bags, might save some wear and tear on the tootsies too.

I try to keep things in the freezer in the boxes they come in--which I label with the date purchased. But I buy a lot from Omaha steaks and their stuff comes in boxes that stand up nicely in the freezer.

As to storage containers--I use the heavier deli containers from the bar/restaurant supply store. They come in 1 cup, 1 pint, and 1 quart sizes. The same lids fit all. They nest for storage. And they're cheap--about $6-7 for 50. You have to be careful, though, there are different qualities (thicknesses). Some are better than others, with lids that seal better. You need to get the better ones (which are thicker and sort of cloudy) rather than the thin ones that are clear like glass.
