I don't like making phone calls if its about paying bills, or about a problem with a company.
But I love to talk to my friends on the phone.I have a close friend in Wisconsin, and we talk every single day. I like my e-mail friends too, though. I was a telephone operator for 24 years, maybe that's why ?

Not a phone person, normally. DD calls me everyday, and I do enjoy talking to her. But I am just not someone who likes sitting around on the phone.

I can say with almost certainty, that it dates back to my childhood. Our 'home' phone was Dad's business phone. We were allowed to use it but ONLY for quick, say-what-you-have-to-and-get-off calls.

Much rather send a pile of e-mails than have to make a phone call. Now if I could just convince SIL that e-mail is the way to go...... (she called last night and talked for over an hour and a half!)

I'd rather write 1000 emails than make 10 phone calls. I do not like the phone. When people have to write their responses, they choose their words with care. When people talk, they blather on, typically repeating themselves over and over and over again.

I also prefer text messages to phone calls. Texting can be done in seconds. Phone calls take too much time.

I thought I was the only person who hates making phone calls. I don't even like to "chat" on the phone. Get to the point, already. I communicate via emails 99% of the time.

I have hearing loss so hate to talk on the phone......would much rather do e-mail.
I wish my sister would learn to use her computer......then she could e-mail me all her jokes and I could delete 99% of them.

Since I don't have the opportunity to visit so many loved ones for weeks or months at a time, I treasure hearing their voices and getting to visit and catch up via phone. Often I will call a friend and we will visit over coffee, via the phone.

Emails are fine for my cyber friends, that I don't feel the need to visit with personally via phone.

I worked in telecommunications for 30 years, and didn't care much for using the phone after working hours. Now that I am retired I enjoy it a lot more.

I've always disliked the phone. I don't like to hear it ring, don't like having to stop what I'm doing and run to answer it. I also don't like to call someone and make them run to answer it, interrupting them.

Email is so much nicer...you can send the email when you feel like it, and they can read it and reply when they feel like it....it's so much less intrusive than a phone call.

Me, too. I put off making calls or try to con Woody into doing them for me, I think it's a shyness thing. I'm afraid of disturbing people, too eager to please, I guess.

I need to call my mom, though, thanks for reminding me!

So glad to hear others hate the phone too. I think my phone phobia stems from my early years on my own in college when several tragedies occured in the family and the phone ringing became equated with "more bad news." I have never owned a cell phone and most likely never will. I never "chat" on the phone if I can possibly help it. I screen all calls and rarely pick up the phone when it rings: I prefer to call someone back, if needed, on my own time (caller ID is my good friend!). And my phone ring tone is a dirge tune from something like Phantom of the Opera!

I am a talker. I prefer to talk, that way, I get instant replies. :)

Skype works for me for the same reason. Lemme talk!

I like both emails and phone conversations. I love "hearing" the voices of those I love, hearing the laughter instead of reading LOL.

If I must talk to someone socially, I would much rather use the telephone. If I'm talking business, I prefer email, so I have what was said in writing.

Like Glenda, I used to enjoy chatting on the phone, especially when my children were young. I think we mothers kept each other sane sometimes. But now I have less patience with the phone. I love the occasional long talk with a far-away friend or relative, but for brief, everyday sorts of things I'll take email every time.

Depends what I have to say. I love to talk to friends and I talk to one friend at least once a day. We've been friends since kindergarten. If it's something I need an answer to right away for business, I call. At work, I have taken to picking up the phone much more often now. I used to get over 100 extra emails a day that could be resolved easily if someone only picked up the phone. If it's an easy question, I call. If it is something that takes me some time to compose, I email.

Email is so wasteful of time!

I can say in a minute what it takes half an hour to write.

And I get instant reply ...

... not late today ...

... or tomorrow.

In four interchanges of ideas, we can get a lot of business or social stuff transacted.

And to hear the voice is so much more satisfyiing than just reading a lot of words.

Plus there are the nuances - the tone of voice, the laughter (or a giggle) ...

... so much more personal!

The emails are so dry and dessicated ... I figure that the wind just might blow them away.

Depends on the circumstnces son out of ton sends lots of emails and I worry if I don't get them son in town calls and I worry if he doesn't

I have hearing loss, which is bad enough in person, but the telephone is really a challenge. If I can get DH to make calls, I am very happy. Nanny

I am not a phoner. Emails serve the purpose for me. I think some of my dislike of making phone calls is because my hearing is not the best now, although with my new phones I can turn the volume up and that is a great help.

Another reason is my age, and most of my friends are in the same age group. There really isn't much to talk about if you leave out all the aches and pains du jour. I have one friend who has real memory problems now, and she tells me my phone number is the only one she can remember. Lucky me!

I don't like getting or making a call and the person says something like, Oh, I'm getting another call, I'll talk to you later.

Also, like some others, my DF had a home business. Anytime we were on the phone he quietly reminded us that he was expecting a call. Seems like he was always expecting a call. :-) Bless his heart, I would love to hear him say that again.

I still do phone calls occasionally with my siblings (I used to talk about nothing for HOURS on the phone with my now deceased Mom.) But with the grandkids & adult kids, no one wants the hassle of writing or checking e-mail, so we text. A LOT. And I get kept in the loop with them all via tiny snippets of their lives. Like my DD texting me that they were at a carnival & DSIL won a giant stuffed animal they were going to give to one of the dogs to "play" with (he destroys EVERYTHING.) She woudln't have called to tell me that. Or composed an e-mail. Or when DDIL texted me when I was in the mall about the flight schedule they could book & would that be ok for me to come stay with the grandkids. Texting is so much more right now (for those of us without I-phones) than e-mail. And the BONUS (over phone calls) is that you get a permanent record (like the flight days, times) which sometimes the phone call memory doesn't come through with.

I prefer emails. I hate making business calls. I even try to get DH to make appointments for me. Now if someone calls me (even for business) I'm fine. I don't mind being the callee.

I will occasionally initiate calls to friends but I do procrastinate about it. I don't mind chatting on the phone with them, just don't like to call.

I have a few friends that don't do email and I find it has weakened our friendship a bit. There is one especially that I only will talk to on the phone because she only has the email addy she shares with her DH. The once in a blue moon email i get from her comes with her DH's name on it. I always wonder why "Joe" is sending me an email.

I have gotten closer to people I would never have considered as friends through email. You really do get to know a person better through email sometimes. Even the jokes and tidbits of general info they share help you learn a bit more about them.
