$99 tablet/ereader

Just got the new sale flier for Big Lots they have listed the Sylvania 7" Android 2.2 tablet for sale price of $99.99.

This is the same tablet I got a few months ago on sale at CVS. I have really enjoyed it and had no problems at all. It is about the size of a full size paper back, it is very thin and light weight. For me it is the perfect size for using as an ereader.

since it is Android 2.2 you will be able to add LOTS of apps, games, stuff to it including various ereader apps, I put the kindle app on mine and the aldiko app, my fave reader app is Aldiko, it has so many neat options, surpasses all the other ereader apps I have tried.

I can watch videos and youtube. You can add other browsers to it. I use it all the time to quickly check my email and my fave websites. I have it loaded up with lots of books and I read every night, it does the night mode which I prefer so no need for any lights.

If you have been wanting to give one a try and not spend a lot of money this one is in my opinion a good one for that.

It is much lighter than my Pandigital and thinner.

It comes preloaded with the slide me app which allows you to get a lot of neat apps, I also added the amazon app so I can get apps from the amazon app store, tons of free apps out there.

that sale price is good from 10-30 to 11-5

it uses a micro SD card for storage, I load all my books onto my micro SD card and just pop it in, Aldiko makes it very easy to access the SD card and then list all your books on your bookshelf. (Micro SD card is of course not included)

Thanks. I was thinking about getting an e-reader from e-bay, but when I got DH his Kobo, I had to asign an email address to it in the store. Do you know how to go about changing the email already on one if I got it from ebay?

Thanks Raven....can you respond to emails as well with this device? Since I don't have a Smartphone, I'm thinking this could be used while away from my office to check email and reply (I'm self employed) since carrying around the laptop can be an annoyance.

lookbook ereader & sylvania tablet at CVS this week

The big lots here did have some type of reader or tablet about a month ago but it was not the lookbook it was some other brand I had looked it up but there was not much out there about it. The sylvania tablet is working really well. I still have to go buy a micro sd card so I can load it up with stuff, I do not own any of that type of card. It is pretty speedy at going online and surfing and watching youtube videos is very good and smooth not choppy but I do have high speed internet. I am impressed with it so far. Just wish it was a 10" but it has a lot of fonts and sizes.

I have both the B&W Nook and the Color Nook. I gave my B&W one to a friend to use, but I do miss it when reading at the beach. Other than that, I don't miss it at all. I love my color Nook. I love that I don't need a reading light and don't find it makes my eyes tired. I love getting my email on my nook and I love checking out library books. I only buy books occasionally. I love being able to lie on my side and I can just prop my Nook up on a pillow. I like that I can take 10 books with me on vacation and they all fit right in my purse! :-) I have to admit that I was a real anti e-reader person. My DH bought my first one as a birthday gift because he couldn't think of anything else to get me. I reluctantly agreed to try it out but had every intention of returning it. I loved my paper books - the feel of them, smell etc. Now, I cannot fathom reading on anything but my Nook. LOVE IT!!

I want to add anyone that was thinking along the lines of the ipads or the bigger 10" tablets the deal they have on the Acer Iconia is absolutely awesome! That is a super tablet, it has Android 3.0 honeycomb running it which is the best OS for a tablet. It is in the same category as the xoom. It has a dual core processor which is the best you can get right now in these tablets. Acer ICONIA A500 16GB, Wi-Fi, 10.1in - Black REFURBISHED It is manufacturer refurbished that is why the price is cut so much. That would not bother me since it is done by the manufacturer.

i have been enjoying my Pandigital... but I still have not been able to get the Kindle Android app to install. I keep getting a message indicating that it is not compatible. The Pandigital is up to date software-wise so I am not sure what the problem is.

Having the reader makes exercising much less miserable, lol.

oh yes you can do all the same email functions you can on your pc, it does use that smaller virtual keyboard but it is larger than a smartphone keyboard. It took me about 2 mins to get my hotmail set up on it and the gmail was even quicker. Plus should you choose to use an app there are a LOT of email apps. I use one called better hotmail on my smartphone. But I just use what came with this tablet.
I can come and post here from it too. Same things I do at my pc basically. I really am on my desktop much much less these days because I have this tablet sitting on my table beside my recliner!
this one does not come with a case but there are a lot of the sleeve cases that will fit it for pretty cheap.

It does do horizontal and vertical views.

It has a very responsive touch screen mine takes just taps, it is not quite as responsive as my HTC smartphone but for me it is just right the one on my phone sometimes gets away from me LOL.

Janie I don't understand why the kindle app is not wanting to install, I would try uninstalling it from the unit and going to get the app from a different app store.
I know the amazon app store has it so that would be a good place to go.
When you go to the amazon app store you may have to install their little app installer but then you can just tap on the amazon store icon on your device and go right to the store and download your apps right straight to it.

If you have not tried the Aldiko reader app I highly recommend it.

Tami it may not come with any email associated with it, I would think they would clear that out before selling it if it is a used one.

With my sylvania tablet it did have to do an update as soon as it was charged up and I connected to wifi so my guess is this one would have to do that also, Always a good idea to immediately check for any updates anyway and always do that with it plugged into power! Just in case the battery decides to go dead in the middle of an install (not good)

I just wanted to say when I was at big lots last weekend they also had one of the Black Pandigitals YOU DO NOT want that one. the black ones had lots of problems and does not have the upgraded Android.
they also had a nextbook, I know nothing about that brand but I looked it up and there are a lot of versions some they are no longer updating and I do not know which version they had at BL.
so just be sure you pay attention to what is there.

Janie since you had tried from Amazon this time go to this link and down to the Download area and try getting it from this site. Do it right from your PDN browser.

Boy do I wish I lived near you! One thing I would do is get the local library to ask you to do a seminar for grownups to get acquainted with technology.

I have been doing similar here in my area for many of the mature folks LOL, I am in a local Garden Club and once the word got out that I could help with computers they latched on it that LOL. I enjoy helping when I can, I refuse payment for doing it, but I have had some very nice free lunches!
One of the Senior Groups from a local church needed help with some computer related stuff and creating a membership roster etc, I was more than happy to help. They demanded I be paid, I said no, just add my name to your prayer list LOL
But they did buy me lunch.
