What happens if you rotate the photo 90 degrees before printing?

Do you think it could be something as simple as choosing "landscape" or "portrait" in the print layout, before printing?

ABR...I usually end up with approximately 1/4 of the photo not being printed. I've also tried free "skewing" and got the same results......

Tried that too Linda....part of pic is still "chopped off"...theres got to be something simple I'm not doing....I'm still trying...same results each time...drat...

How old is your computer? It could be you just don't have enough memory to process the photo if it's a large file.

Download IrfanView or Google's Picasa (go to Google and hit the More link at the top of the page). Both are free image manipulation softwares to edit your photos.

Warning, reducing the file size too much will cause the photo to print out pixelated or grainy. You want at least 150 dpi, but 300 or above is best.

Irfanview is a fantastic free program. Click on Resize/Resample and you can choose a percentage of the original size that you want to go or enter dimensions IIRC. I use this whenever I am going to email pictures from my digital camera to get the size smaller for those of us with dialup. Also great for posting, both for the reduction in physical size but also file size. You can also rotate it a little bit if needed. Great program. Fun to play with.

Kahty, that's landscape (as mentioned by Linda). Kathy, if you want, you can emiail it to me and I can see if I have any luck resizing with Paint Shop Pro.

Jodi and Cynic....I've used Irfanview for years for resizing and they also have a great batch conversion feature that will re-size 200 photos in nothing flat....but,I still can't manipulate the pic to "portrait" mode from "landscape" without losing a good portion of the photo. I saved the pic at 1024x768 pixels so as not to lose resolution for better printing....now to Joan...since I can't resize the pic to send by e-mail (they shrink them down to really small to make the file smaller to take up less "room") and I need to keep all the pixels I can, I'm posting the pic here Joan....can you right click it and try to manuver it to portrait mode with your paint program?When you turn it around you can post it here and I'll right click and save it....do you think we can do this????? Sure seems to be a lot of trouble for a little pic, doesn't it? LOL.....

P.S. Jodi....computers 4 months old, Dell...with "goodies galore"....LOL

Beautiful picture!

What are you using to print it with? I tried it with Windows Print Wizard and it printed exactly at 7x5. That would be 7" across and 5" up & down...is that what you are trying for?

I am using XP, and I assume you have VISTA, so I don't know if the Print Wizard is different, but I will go through how I did it.

I right clicked on the file (I saved it from here) and selected PRINT. I clicked NEXT until I go to the window that said LAYOUT SELECTION and I chose 5x7. It rotated and cropped the print automatically and printed it perfectly without cutting anything off (although I think it may have cropped just a slight amount off - as the dimensions on the picture I saved aren't a true 5x7). Then I just clicked next to continue through the print wizard until the photo printed.

I chose to print 1 picture, but you can have it print two 5x7 on one page if you want...just put 2 in the number of copies to print at the bottom of the LAYOUT SELECTION window.

sounds like IowaGirl has it right. I also have XP. I have to leave for continuing ed all day today, but I hope you solve this, Kathy.

Thanks everybody for trying to help this goofy old woman. Iowagirl....the diminsions I need are just the opposite...I need the pic to be 5 inches across and 7 inches up and down. When I try to do this the pic is really "chopped off" quite a bit. I've tried cropping and resizing and nothing is working.....drat, back to the drawing board.

Ah shoot - I was hoping that wasn't the case. I tried resizing and cropping to those dimensions also, and it really does crop things out.

Can you do some photo editing - I have created a 5x7 canvas and pasted a smaller size of the picture in 5x7 dimension. This cropped out some of the rose, but I cut out the rose on the original and pasted it back on (smaller) so that it comes off the frame - but still inside the 5x7 dimension.

I rotated it in PhotoShop and I don't think any of it was lost. The entire flower was there anyway. I don't know how to post it here but if you'd like, I can email it to you.

Does this photo have to have 5X7 dimensions or can it be a 5X5 matted in a 5X7 frame?

Either way Lisa....with or without matting overall it must be 5x7......

Kathy,it's almost impossible to change landscape to portrait, it seems. At least without losing a lost of making the pic smaller. I've learned (not that this helps you any) to try to take a shot in each orientation, if at all possible.
