Read this tip and it works. Next time you burn yourself ...like on the stove...put flour on the burn first. It is amazing. No redness, no stinging..nothing

I usually use cold water on mine, just let it run on it for awhile. Did you try this tip Samkaren?

I kinda believe you but wonder why if it's a real miracle cure, I've never heard of it before... and can't really figure why it would help.

I remember another such post someone asked a good way to get rid of fire ants.People were all writing in and of course the grits came up.An entomologist took the time to write a lengthy post about fireants and all the research they had done and how grits or all the organic tricks absolutely do not work and about 4 posts beyond his someone WHO HAD NOT READ his piece or probably the others wrote "OH I heard you just sprinkle Grits on them." I am sure he wanted to just scream!

Country meat processors...those who do custom butchering, and curing, should have the cures available and maybe some advice. If using the sugar cure, you need to inject some of the cure deep into and along the bone of large bone-in chunks of meat such as ham. Morton Salt used to have a butchering and meat curing book for sale way back when. I believe there is at least two methods for salt curing. I have seen neighbors use dry salt and pack in heavy waxed paper lined boxes...it is "worked" every day...turned and repositioned. After a period of time is is rinsed, and then scalded before hanging in the smoke house. They used a cool smoke. I remember my mother preparing a wooden barrel for salt cured meat. This was before we had electricity, so it was left in the salt cure liquid...taken out as needed and soaked in plain water to desalt before cooking. She used enough salt to make a brine that would float an egg. I would suggest that if you decide to do this, buy the canning salt without anti-caking additives. Here is link that may help. My diagnosis for arthritis happened about 7 years ago. I was on DMARD meds and went off them to get pregnant, which was great because I would go in remission with pregnancy. Anyways, that one pregnancy turned into two and after the birth of my second it came back fiercely. This was last year. I started with anti-inflammatories because I really didn't want to go on harsh meds again, which worked for 6 weeks, then went to Celebrex with worked another 6 and had to move to the DMARDS again. I had a pretty strong reaction this time which really worried me as my blood count got really messed up and this when I started a natural route. I did an elimination diet and had results within 10 days - I could pick up a plate with one hand, turn a door handle, pick up my 1 1/2 year old. At the beginning of the diet, if I ate the wrong foods, the inflammation occurred instantly so with paying attention I could really find my agitators. At this point I was at about 80% (3 months in) so I got an IgG test (food sensitivity) and found dairy and soy to be very high on the list. I now eliminate those but will have a cheat with them every so often. Basically, I follow the 80/20 rule. Eighty percent veggies and fruit with remaining being fish, meats, grains, etc. An ideal day for me could be a spinach salad for breakfast (topped with walnuts, fruit), 1 cup cooked oats with 1/2 cup blueberries, an egg with sauteed spinach, onions, asparagus or zucchini - lunch would be something similar, or meatballs with squash, a soup, rice cake with almond butter and sliced banana, dinner can be a salad with souvlaki, hamburger with green pepper and onions, etc. It got easier as I got into it and more food options became available as to what was good for me. I found it hard going by a book as I do believe each person is different for what it good for them. Since being on the diet my blood count (specifically my ESR rate) has changed, my anemia, gingivitis, fatigue, tooth sensitivity is gone. These are all physical changes that happened - I have psoriasis, which is pretty much cleared except a couple of spots but no dry skin either. I have had all these conditions all my life, as they have been monitored, but not in the past 6 six months since starting this diet! My last dental appointment - no lecture! A first for me. I brushed and flossed regularly beforehand and would always get a tutorial and I would follow and would get the lecture again at the next checkup. It's hard and frustrating but I am glad I didn't give up. The next round of meds suggested scared me. I will no longer be skeptical if someone suggests something to me because if I didn't have that reaction to my medication I wouldn't have done it (the natural route). Sorry it's so long.

I was going to ask if you were speaking from experience, Karen!

OTOH, sprinkle bacon or sausage with flour and you won't get spatters that will burn you. ;-)

Actually I have used this method twice. I was taking a roast out of the oven and my finger touched the pan. Got a spoonful of flour and just stuck my finger in it. The other time was when we were having a bonfire and the wind caught the flames. They hit my arm and burned all the hair right off. I ran in the house and put flour on my arm and it worked. No pain, no rednessÃ¯Â¿Â½.nothing. Of course I was hairless for a good month..lol

Samkaren, you are speaking of the most superficial of burns- finger on a roasting pan, and some singed hair from sparks. These are not serious burns.

If you had anything other than a minor, hardly warrants the first degree burn label, flour would be a terrible, disasterous idea.

Cool the burn with cool water, always. Then evaluate, and get treatment, if more that a first degree burn.

An old lab technican taught me a trick. First, the burn must be cooled. Immersing in cool water is best, and if that is not practical, running cool water over the affected area is next best. To be effective, cooling must be done immediately. The trick: Gently pat the affected zone. Pat only hard enough to slighty depress the skin. Pat fairly rapidly, maybe per second. Patting may begin while cooling down of immediately afterward. His theory was this: Patting promotes the movement of body fluids and blood flow through capillaries. This helps to limit the damage and hastens the start of bodt repair.

Crazy? I don't know. He swore by it. I've tried it and it seems to do no harm.

I always put cold water on a burn. If it's on my hand, I run it under the faucet till the pain passes. Don't add any kind of ointment or bandage. I know this works. When I was a kid, I burned my forearm on a hot iron. I was trying to iron something and my Mom wasn't around. It left a scar, which got smaller and smaller as the years went by. It's now gone, but I'm careful when ironing.

Believe it or not, I once read that, if you burn your finger tip, such as on a stove or similar, quickly squeeze your ear lobe with that finger and thumb to take the pain away. Well, I'm sure that there will be "yeah, right" comments, but it sure does work for me.
