riding toy question

I remember from when my girls were small, some riding toy that simulated a tricycle. But it didn't have pedals, it was brought in motion by pushing it with the feet. The seat was made of wood.

I think it was made by Fisher Price, or Playskool. I did a search, but can't find it.

Is it no longer made?

Moni... who is looking for it, for her practice grand childs first Birthday.

There are a lot of riding toys out there. We bought our grandson a riding car for his first birthday last December. He loves cars. It has been a favorite. We got it at Toys R Us. It is plastic, has a steering wheel and red squeaky beep horn, and it has a tall, orange plastic "railing" attached to the rear with a stabelizing design. So it can be used to practice standing and walking and is real sturdy so that it won't fall or tip. When he was learning to walk, he would take it on walks around the block with me and trundle along holding on to the "railing." The blue seat is a lid that lifts easily to a stash compartment. It has a telephone and little dials and balls that twirl. It was a no-name car, but I liked it for its stability, sturdiness, and lack of computerized gee gaws. It was $20 or $30 I think.

Well, I really prefer a wooden toy, and am looking for that particular kind. I may just have to start some "real time" shopping. :)

Yep, unless you have a heavy duty Cummins diesel on yer tractor............keep yer diethyl ether starter fluid on yer shelf. In all fairness though, and to clarify somewhat, The use of ether based starting fluid in all kinds of gasoline powered engines is NOT AS LIKELY to cause damage if used sparingly when the temperatures of the engine and ambient air are 20 degrees Fahrenheit or colder. The explosive blast that can break piston rings and stress other parts is less apt to occur when the temperatures are that cold. Where people stand the most risk of doing damage is when they use ether starting fluid at higher ambient temperatures or they feed it to an engine that has already been run and warmed up. Another factor that can increase the risk of damage from ether is is the spark timing. If there is a condition/defect causing the spark to occur earlier than normal...........the chances of breaking things increases significantly. A shot of the commercially available spray can carb cleaner is much gentler on the engine than ether. It comes down to this: Diesel engines are built a lot heavier and designed to handle much higher combustion chamber pressures than a paltry little gasoline powered engine. A shot of ether exploding in a diesel engine is like a firecracker to that engine. A shot of ether exploding in a gasoline engine is more akin to dynamite.

When my first was born I thought all the toys should stay in her room and she should play in there with them. Boy was I naive! Kids don't want to play all alone in their room OR a playroom, they want to play where they can see and hear YOU! After having four children and overflowing toys I found the best idea for us was to keep a toy closet. I found a huge locking cabinet (actually I think it was a metal locker) and all the toys with pieces had to go into their own containers and be put away before they could get out another. This worked unbelievably well for us and taught them to put away one mess before they started another. Stuffed animals and such I look at as room decorations and either go up on shelves or in a toy hammock strung in a corner. Like Michiel says, the main thing is to teach them that every thing has a place that it "lives" and it gets put away when done. I also agree very strongly with Jonesy about the reading before bed. We had a routine with reading at night. I do it and I expected them to do it. After a certain hour you get in bed and read. You can read whatever you like for however long you want but that's all you can do. Reading helps calm your mind down and turn inward to help you unwind. Of all the important things you teach your kids, the love of reading ranks right up in the top five most useful.

with android you have a ton of apps you can get to use just like on smart phones and there is a kindle app, a nook app, pretty much every ereader platform has an app that can be added to use. The first versions of the PDN could not but they have put out new firmware that makes it able to use a lot of the apps and also has access to the market for lots of apps, and android is associated with google so it is very google friendly. and yes calibre is an excellent program I think everyone that uses any ereader should have calibre it does a lot of neat stuff. There is also a linux based version of calibre too. Janie keep in mind that wiki link is quite old and no one has bothered to update it with the many many newer versions of readers and tablets on the market now. So don't base a lot on it. this is a very very fast changing market so for what is available now you can look at some of these articles and keep in mind it will be different by next month. They are basically the same blade, the 198-059 is ground a bit different. The Oregon blades are thinner than OEM and apparently do not wear as well. You get what you pay for.

Playskool made the one that my kids had. I don't think they still make that model.

Wood toys are quite expensive and usually can be found only in high end toy shoppes. Just do a google search and see what there is available online in the wood.

Moni, my neice orders on-line from a site called Blueberry Forest....they may have something there. I think she said they specialize in wooden toys.......but, don't know if they have "ride-on" toys.....
