I'm grateful for another new day.

There's a rumour afloat that I may be still alive ... and I think that there may be some truth in it.

If it turns out to the contrary ... I'll try to find a way to let you know.

That answer when some store clerks, or tellers at the bank ask how I am as a routine question, usually gets a bit of a smile.

Actually, I'm planning to leave the contact info to get here as part of the kit available to my son, who already knows about you folks but not how to get here, to notify you when I'm not mobile enough to do it on my own - including that 4-letter word - "d-e-a-d".

I'm happy to be alive ... and that my body spoils me, seldom saying, "Listen, you darned old fool - I can't DO that for you any more!".

And I'm feeling that I need to treat it with better care, as well, and taking action on it.

Like mojavean states, the grates are coated with a porcelain enamel, almost a glass like substance. It will wear, and it might be susceptible to attack by "some" of the stronger dishwashing detergents that have potassium or sodium hydroxide in them. I quote one sentence from Wikipedia under the topic 'dishwasher'-"glass dissolves slowly in alkaline aqueous solution."... you can read the article yourself. I mentioned before, it's like the porcelain coating on French cast iron ovens, such as Le Creuset and Staub. Having said that, it would probably take years to have much of an effect. Still, I would rather have the bottom of my pans wear out this coating. The grates will take a seasoning, you just wipe them with the smallest amount of oil, and turn the burner back on. Some oils smoke less than others, refined light olive oil is good, this seasoning may burn off and stick to the bottom of your expensive copper pan, especially if it's a fresh seasoning....otherwise, not a problem, and in fact it probably protects the porcelain from wear. The big thing with cast iron, even porcelain cast iron, is to keep it dry. Sometimes you'll see a light 'bloom' of rust on it, just wipe it off. But if rust gets under the porcelain, it will lift it off and chip it. To clean, I use an almost dry scrubby sponge, and leave the bowls on the cooktop. If I spill a mess of flour, or manage to make a complete mess, I do take the bowls to the sink and rinse them there.

"I am grateful to God for sending us His only begotten Son." that's my priority too. I'm also grateful that my sister lives close to me and I'll be spending a few hours tomorrow with her, her dh and their youngest son. no big dinner planned - just sandwiches, snacks and pie (pie from Village Inn). no one has to cook, do a lot of work or clean up. We can eat and visit... then visit and have pie! She emailed me today that her Christmas stuff was out (of storage area) but not up yet... I emailed back that if it isn't 'up' it would be so much easier to put it all away again! and not to put things 'up' for me. but maybe her nativity set will be 'up' tomorrow.

My husband of 56 years, our 2 sons and their families, good friends in the area and at church, a comfortable roof over our head and having adequate food for ourselves, our dog and cats, and the few head of cattle we still have. Guess I had better include the occasional possum and I think a skunk that comes around at times to help eat the cat food outside. And I am so grateful for all of you here on the KT. I've been on Garden Web for about 20 years (way back to the Spike time and I think someone before him even) and enjoy it more each year!

I"m grateful for my new sandals. After a couple years worth of foot injury and thinking I might not be able to wear fun sandals again, now I got four pairs of good orthos! My sister gifted me with a nicer pair for an outdoor event we are in soon. Then I found a little local shop that carries a few lines of nice ortho shoes along with a selection of nice clothing. Now I have two pairs of flip-fops and a good sturdy strappy pair of regular out and about sandals. The flip-flops are more for a bit of around the house rather than going anywhere. Not quite the barefoot or barely soled foot of a lot of my life, but a damn sight better and then some than having my feet encased in special socks, sleeves, and enclosed shoes for another summer. I'm extra grateful that right now, I can afford the extra bucks on some good footwear, and also help support local business.

I'm thankful that I was able to get up, get ready, and have enough money to write the checks to go pay the bills. I have a roof over my head, good food in my house, and I'm on this side of the dirt again today. Seriously, I always try to find something to be grateful for everyday.

I hope others keep on posting so I can get more ideas.

I'm grateful that God has granted me another day of life, a beautiful sunny 73 degree day, and for the loves of my life: my hubby and daughter, and my friends. I'm thankful for basically good health, and for my new computer which I am still learning.

I'm most grateful for the doctor's who are working so hard to keep my son alive...It started way back in April with another valve replacement, then to failing kidneys, continued fluid buildup, not being able to breath without a respirator, 1 infection after the other, in and out of the hospitals and now a fungal infection on his left lung....He is scheduled for surgery either tomorrow or Wed. in hopes of removing the fungus and sealing up the space so fluid can't get in......So each day I have my son is a blessing and we are most grateful.........

Me too--I'm grateful for another day, fairly good health, a car that works, laughing at my dear grandchildren's funny words, loving family.

Got my flu shot today, grateful for that too.

Joyful, you are so funny (and "lively" too!).

I'm thankful for the beautiful day we had today. Played bridge and won and am thankful for the $4.00 I can contribute to my "Humane Society can". Also thankful for the very nice elderly gentleman in the grocery store that made me smile the first time I saw him and second time I saw him he asked me what to do about not remembering things. I said you're going to have to make a list, but then you have to remember to look at the list. We had a good laugh and it just brightened my day some more.

No work today and that the Tylenol I took this morning relieved most of my back pain. We have med carts that need repair. The wheels are full of string and hair which makes them impossible to push properly. Back was killing me all weekend from pushing the stupid cart. Woke up this morning and I could barely walk. ) :

I've also had back pain, sharp and unnerving, but regular aspirin cures it. I'm sooooooo happy it takes so little to keep me going....:0)

Also my 7 yards of Sunbrella fabric arrived. I'm anxious to get started on my Roman shades. YAY! :0)

I'm grateful for every day I'm given. When I was in the nursing home, after knee replacement, I had a roommate that had the most awful tales to tell about her family's escapades. I was just so grateful for the family that I have!

I'm grateful (and thankful) for this thread this morning. Think I got up on the wrong side of the bed.... but.... the sun will come out (tomorrow?) in a little while and I WILL get up to speed soon.

I am grateful for the phone call I just received from my Cardiologist telling me that all of my heart tests I had done yesterday are fine! Also thankful for the wonderful weather we are having and the beautiful trees that are beginning to turn in my area. Life is good and I am so thankful for it.

I am thankful for my good health, my family, precious Finn, my dog and 3 cats and all my friends at church. I am also thankful that I live in a beautiful, peaceful town and that basketball season starts Nov.2.
