Squash pie

Does anyone have a pie recipe, substituting squash for pumpkin. I have lots of buttercup squash but no pumpkin. Thanks in advance.I asked on the recipe exchange forun too.

Buttercup squash makes the BEST pie!! I like it even better than pumpkin, and if I can find my old recipe (it's been years since we grew winter squash) I'll give it to you. Meanwhile, I hope someone else comes up with one.

You can use any recipe that you have for pumpkin pie and just substitute squash........Most people don't have a clue that what they get in the cans is probably a Pumpkin squash.

I remember Hubbard squash from when I was very small. Those things were MUCH bigger than I! And when some was desired for dinner, my dad was sent to the woodshed with an axe to whack off a chunk. We have had such success with butternut squash the last couple of years, I think I may have to try Hubbards, and maybe even make"squash" pies.

Honestly it sounds over-crowded to me. Plus since it is 6' wide you'll need an access path in there somewhere. Over-crowding can lead to all sorts of disease and pest problems. But the two big problems that jump out at me are 1) squash bugs infesting the tomatoes and 2) all the vines climbing the tomato cages/stakes, either pulling them over or smothering the tomato plants. Consider bush varieties of squash in a container away from the tomatoes and the pumpkins off one end where the vines can run out onto the yard rather than toward the tomato plants. Hope this helps. How about this SP pie? I've made it, and it's very good. Sweet Potato Pecan Pie from Paul Prudhomme's cookbook. Have ready uncooked 2 deep dish pie crusts (your own recipe or frozen from the grocery store. In a large bowl combine: 1 cup cooked sweet potato 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar, 2tablespoons sugar 1 egg 1 tablespoon heavy cream 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (not, not, not margarine) 1 tablespoon vanilla 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teasp cinnamon 1/8 teasp allspice 1/8 teasp nutmeg Beat on medium speed until smooth, 2-3 min, do not overbeat. Set aside. In another bowl combine: 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 cup dark corn syrup (Karo) 2 eggs 1&1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter (not margarine) 2 teaspoon vanilla pinch of salt Mix thoroughly on low speed until syrup is opaque, about 1 minute. Stir in 3/4 cup pecan pieces (large pieces) or halves. Spoon the sweet potato filling in the pie dough, then pour the syrup over the sweet potato filling, decorate the tops with pecan halves. Bake 325 degrees for about 1& 1/2 hours, or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Bon Appetit.

Grams, just use the same amount of squash in place of the pumpkin. Even the recipe on the Libby's can works great. We just put up squash and I made 3 pies and they were ao good. I like to use the fresh spices in place of the pie spice..

Yesterday my hubby and I cut up a big banana squash to freeze. I made this pumpkin pie from the squash.. It is yummy. A great neighbor just had open heart surgery and pumpkin pie is his favorite so I took him one. I barely got home and he called to say it was the best he had ever had.. This recipe is from an old Mennonite cookbook that was my Moms from 1986. Here goes.......

3 cups pumpkins or squash
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp pumpkin pie spice
4 eggs
1 can evaporated milk or 2 cups whole milk

Mix all ingredients together except the egg whites. Beat the egg whites until stiff. Fold into pumpkin mixture. Poor into unbaked 9" pie crusts. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes and 350 degrees until done. When a knife comes out clean the pie is done..

This makes 3 9" pies...
I used the squash for my pies. Yummy...

I did not have the pie spice so I used ........ 1/2 tsp nutmeg,1/2 tsp ginger and 1/4 tsp cloves Also I used 2% milk..
