Hello, I am looking for "Autumn Brilliance" serviceberry and juneberry (amelanchier arborea). I am also looking for any hardy and disease resistant white flowering dogwood, and "rubra" the pink flowering dogwood. Tell me if you have this and we can work out a trade. Since 'Wolf Eyes' is variegated, it often develops very good fall color, leaning towards the pink and red tones. But then IME most kousas develop better fall color than other dogwood species anyway. Wolf Eyes is a smaller, shrubby form, seldom exceeding 10', so that may play into your considerations as well. I tend not to favor the 'red'/pink flowering selections much and 'Satomi' is well down on my list :-) The color tends to be washed out and the bracts are small. And in my climate, even the white flowered forms tend to fade to a rosy pink, so you get the benefit of both effects. If I could select only one kousa it would be a variety of chinensis, probably 'Milky Way' - the bracts are enormous and plentiful, virtually obscuring all the foliage when in bloom, and it is a heavy fruit producer as well.

Nice! Our dogwood is loaded with berries but the birds are pickin' it clean! Love the Iris and Johnny Jump Up's, makes me want to skip winter and go right to spring!

It looks like Cornus alternifolia which grows all over here. Mine have berries that start green, turn through red to a deep purple, almost black. Also, the timing is right for pagoda dogwood, since mine have blossoms just fading now. One of my favorite things about C. alternifolia is how the tree absolutely fills with birds in August as the fruits ripen. Then just the bright red stalks are left for a few weeks. In sun it gets a nice peachy color, but it doesn't seem to develop much color in shade. Interesting berry color Peren.all. Perhaps the regional genetics are a bit different.
