For Scrabble fans

Have you heard about the "NEW" rules? There was an announcement made somewhere that Scrabble rules would be changed to allow proper nouns. One of my neighbors heard that and passed it on to one of the group who plays each Wednesday at my house.

So of course, I googled.

Interesting, and it reminds me that we shouldn't believe anything we HEAR, and only half of what we SEE. Right?

I heard this earlier this summer, then heard that it was only in Britain where they are allowing this.

I'm upset, because they discontinued the Super Scrabble, which we play. Has twice as many tiles (2 Q's, Z's etc). We like it much more than the regular Scrabble. But Hey, ANY scrabble is good, we love it.

We have out own special rules we call the "Oshkosh" rules. Grandma got a new Scrabble set years ago and a few pieces were missing. The company sent an entire new packet of letters, so several vowels and valuable consonants were added to the game. I've done the same thing by buying and old Scrabble game at a yard sales and adding many of the tiles to our old board.

Grandma also came up with the special rule that once a blank has been played, anyone can exchange it at any time for the letter that it was supposed to be when it was played. The additional tiles and usable blanks make the game last longer and it becomes a lot more challenging to fill the board. What a great game!

It was great, thanks for asking. I also use a Reynolds bag, instead of precooking it on Wed as I first thought I would do, and it looked great and was moist & tasty. I bought 2 cooking magazines to use as stocking stuffers this Xmas. I used both for recipes for the meal! I was very careful and didn't spill or wrinkle them before sticking them back in the Xmas gift box. The highlight was skyping with my sister & her family in Europe. My 2 yo niece said later "I wanted to talk to Jean but she was busy looking for things on the computer". No, no, no! I was busy preparing food for the 11 people standing in my kitchen that's why I didn't get much face time! I'll have to skype with them again today while it's nice and quiet here. For the first time in years, I ended up with a seat at the main dining room table and not the auxiliary table. Actually I prefer the auxiliary table but 4 guests, some newbies, sat down first (I don't do a seating chart - it's always a free for all). I think they thought of it as the kid's table and wanted relive their youth.

I agree, who cares if your chairs "look" squatty in a photo. It has been my experience that often photos lack a certain perspective and the way things look in real life can appear and feel quite different. If you like the chairs and they are not causing you any problems using them, then I would focus on just finding the right table that looks good with them. A round table that you could put a tablecloth on (floor length) could be found super cheap and adjusted for height easily by sawing things off or adding stuff under, since it would all be covered by the tablecloth. You can even add a larger wooden circular top to an existing table if it is the right height.

Since it's just hubby and I, we have made a rule, where you can trade a letter from your opponent. If he has a letter that I could badly use, he'll give it to me for a letter that he wants and I'm willing to trade.
The offset is that you can only get a maximum 40 points for that word.
