My favorite is one from my childhood--Spill and Spell. 22 lettered dice, one hourglass timer with the object to use all the letters making words crossword style, I happily play by myself and occasionally cajole another family member into playing with me. On-line, I admit to a minor Scrabble Blast addiction and my family enjoys playing Scattergories which can be fun for a mixed age group.

I like Boggle though I'm not very good at it. I used to play Scrabble a lot but we just haven't had much time for it lately.

My latest favorite is Free Rice, which I was introduced to here.

I too enjoy Boggle, although I am addicted to online Text Twist. I like Scrabble, but don't know many people to play it with.

Another Boggle fan here. There also used to be a similar game called Perquacky that I also enjoyed.

An older game that my family used to love, that's not really a word game per se but is great fun, is called Facts in Five. I put a Wikipedia link explaining it below.

Online I like Bookworm, Know-it-All, and Take Five(?). They're on Boxerjam and Yahoo Games, I think.

Good old crosswords - I love the USA Today puzzles. In my airline days, I came by them readily since hotels routinely give out this newspaper. Now I rarely see them. Of course, they are available on the internet, but I'm not in the habit of obtaining them in that manner.

I can do the New York Times crossword until Thursday, when it becomes too difficult. My mother, who has been doing them for fifty years, does the Sunday crossword as easily as I would write out a shopping list. (For those not familiar, the NYT puzzle becomes increasingly difficult as the week progresses; the Sunday puzzle is much larger and notoriously challenging.)

Hm, I guess Scrabble but the game I like to play the most isn't really a word game but it is a mystery, Clue, LOL. I know, I know, but I enjoyed this game when I was a kid and then I enjoyed it with my kids and now I am going to enjoy it with my grandson. Also, there is a board game based on the DaVinci Code and it is fun.

Balderdash is a real favorite but I seldom have enough folks over to play it.
I also love the NY Times crosswords. Thursday is doable given enough time, but Friday's to Sunday's, I do with dh. With us, two heads equal one!

I've been a Scrabble fan for ages--but there's been no one to play with for many years. I sometimes play it on the computer or play ScrabbleBlast online.

I always look forward to the New York Times Sunday puzzle.

I used to play scrabble with the children, but kept it simple and we never bothered with a score.
Sheri the 'Rice' game is very addictive as are some of the card games on the computer. Have any of you tried 'Spider Solitaire'? Easy to waste time on it.

The DH and I do the 'quick crossword' in the Daily Telegraph and at the weekend attempt the general knowledge version which can be fiendishly difficult.
Does anyone know, without looking it up, 'the old Japanese unit of length almost equal to a foot' (5), or 'the charred portion of a candle wick' (5)? All answers gratefully receive! Thank you.
