Thanks for the recommendation. I thought about getting that one when my 30 YO Rival had a cracked pot and I had to get a new one last year. I just got the cheapest Rival but it does run a lot hotter then my old one did. It is ok for some things, but over cooks others. I did make some killer BBQ pork in it this week. It was sooooooooooo good! I couldn't live without my slow cooker.

I find most of the Rival models run hotter than some of the other brands. I did quite a good amount of research before I bought this one and I'm very satisfied with it. And the 'bang for your buck' with this one really sold me on it. I looked at the Kitchenaid and All Clad, both of those being much more costly. I'm one of those who prefer a round one and both of the above-named are oval. For the times I'm going to cook an oblong pot roast, I'll just squish it into the 6 qt. insert. It worked years ago and it'll work now ;o)

I got a Rival Smart Pot (I think it's called that) for Christmas last year. It's large and oval.

I made a roast beef a couple weeks ago and set it on low, and when I got home all the liquid had boiled away and the bottom of the roast was burned. So that's the problem!!! You have mentioned that yours cooked on too high a temperature.

Maybe I'll try and sell it and then get a new one. It's brand-new only used a few times.

My large crockpot boils on low also. I'm waiting to find a deal on a replacement. Glad to hear the warning on the Rivals.

Wal-Mart on-line has the 3-in-1 for $39.88. Didn't check shipping.

I have a 4-quart Rival and mine works really well. No scorching or burning. So I'll keep my oval Rival for big roasts.

Good news MrsMarv! Our Canadian Tire store has your slow-cooker on sale for $70! Hypothetically, if I sell my oval one for $30, the new one will only cost me $40! I have mine on Kijiji now....

I bought one of the HB 3-in-1's for one of my DD's last Christmas. I thought it was such an ingenious idea, having those 3 different sized crocks. I was browsing through KMart last month and saw some in their clearance aisle, so I bought one for myself too . . . for $25!!!! I love it; just made a spanish-seasoned pork roast in it, shredded it up and made my own "Chipotle burritos" with cilantro rice, black beans, salsa, guacamole, etc . . . yummmmm!

that's exactly waht dh and i need! love teh idea of slow cooking but both of mine are to big...the only time i use the large size one is for overnight breakfast egg dish for christmas, with a house full to feed...

has anyone seen/bought that new double blender?

Well I went out and bought it today for $70. I have to wonder how the big one heats all the way around, when so much of the ceramic pot is above the metal base.

I've got a pork roast thawing, now want to search out some slow-cooker pork recipes for Sunday.

Don't worry, Sherry ;o) The 6 qt. works just fine. The crockery holds the heat extremely well and distributes it evenly, so as long as you have it 2/3 to 3/4 full it will cook everything the way it should.

$70 ??? Checking on the internet it shows Walmart has them for $40.

I have one of the big Rivals that has never cooked at the right temp, another forum I am on we all started to compare ours and every one of found we were having the same problems, there were some recalls listed on the Rival site for some of them but not all.
I have had a West Bend CookerPlus since the late 70's and the thing still cooks perfectly, if I get another I will look for one like it.
I do like the look of that Hamilton Beach 3in1 but had not heard how well it performed, I may go that route, the 3 sizes is great. My big Rival came with other inserts also but it was never dependable on cooking temps.
the 3in1 has good reviews on Amazon, I saw one listed there for $39 but the shipping was high.

I'm in Ontario, and I've been checking them since I first saw Mrsmarv's post. $99 is the norm here, and I just checked Walmart online, and they don't even list slow-cookers on their site. Sears don't carry that particular model, neither does the Bay. So I'm happy with my purchase.

The problem is there's no set standard for the temperatures. I won't have a crockpot again. I'm sold on the electric roasters. Far more functional. I have a 4qt and a 6qt Nesco and they do everything a crockpot/slow cooker will do and more. Plus you set the temperature you want from warm to 475°. I slow cook pot roasts, chili, etc and have baked bread in it, cooked burgers too. The best lasagna I ever made came out of it. And I can put any amount into it from barely covering the bottom to nearly overflowing and it'll perform just as well.

mrsmarv, can you post the recipe for your sweet potato casserole made in the crockpot?
I have an oval one and don't know the brand name. It was a Christmas present from a co-worker several years ago. I love the way it cooks. I had no idea there were 3 size crockpots.
