For dressy occasions, I've been wearing the thigh-high stockings. The have a wide elastic top and can be worn with dresses just above the knees.

I avoid it at all costs. LOL... haven't had any on, since my court date for the divorce in May.

They are supposedly making a bit of a comeback due to Kate Middleton wearing them. Personally I think they should neither be in fashion or out. Some women have the legs for the bare look and others don't. If you think your legs would look better in hose, why the heck wouldn't you wear them?

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHH..don't tell anybody, but when I was working construction outdoors in sub freezing temps in the winter I sometimes wore them to keep my legs warm....LOL

I originally got the idea because when I was in the Air Force I had to go on a special project out on the ice cap 250 miles north of Thule, Greenland in January. We were on that site for 90 days and the warmest temp we recorded was -41 degF. The Air Force issued us panty hose and long sleeve shirts made with the same nylon.

I don't wear dresses but when I wear anything loose or knit, even a costume I find pantyhose create a smoother less jiggly line. I wouldn't be caught dead in a girdle or body shaper (it's a GIRDLE) but panty hose just make clothes fit better similar to a slip (do people still wear those) but with a bit more control.

I avoid them at all costs! I always hated wearing them. If I must wear something it's the thigh hi, stay up hose. Far more comfortable!

I do, actually I never really stopped when wearing a dress. When I was younger I didn't wear them if I have decent color on my legs during the summer but I would not be seen in public with my naked legs these days! Truth be told, in a dressy setting, I have yet to see anyone whose look was not improved by hose, I think it presents a more finished look.

Women lawyers wear them, but they take great pains to buy ones that match their skin tone and don't have much sheen so they look more like bare legs, only better.

Guess I'm old style... I don't like them, but I've never stopped wearing them for dress up occasions.

They are definitely making a come back... I think it depends on the area of the country you are in and maybe even your age but you should be able to wear them fasionably now anywhere if you want.

I wear them under my slacks. I can't stand to see panty lines and plus they keep my legs warmer in the cold weather.

I think professional women wear them--attorneys, executives.

I haven't worn them in many years, but I would if going to a dress-up affair. It is difficult to get a good fit and good color on pantyhose. They always seem too long or too short or too fake looking in color.

I was at at wedding a couple months ago and I wore pants. But I couldn't help notice all the pale bare legs,the spider veins the swinging, saggy butts and all the lumps and bumps on the women in their dresses. Even the the slender ones. Plus because the dresses had no undergarments to slither over they were against skin causing them to be damp and wrinkly and not hang well. I mentioned it to a young 30 something male friend. He said women of all ages today look pretty bad in their clothes. Dog butt ugly. Men certainly don't find it attractive. Of course most guys just want to f get them out of their clothes. lol The one gal he thought looked great was one who was wearing a retro waisted dress with a swingy skirt. And yes she was wearing hose. What a difference.

So unless you are a tan fit well muscled hard belly with great legs the naked leg look just isn't working for you no matter what you think.

I think wearing a dress in a dressy situation requires panty hose. The barelegged look is great for summer and sun dresses but not for dress occasions....I agree with wildchild...no matter what you think, it ain't working for you.

I am a professional woman and wear them--always have. I agree that they look better than bare legs for dressy or professional situations. I do go bare legged when wearing informal summer dresses with sandals: hose are just too hot in summer. However, pantyhose are practical in Minnesota's cold winters. Whether with dresses or under pants or jeans I will wear them if bitterly cold out.

I have always worn them with dresses and will continue to do so. I think they make clothes look and fit better. They camoflage well. I hate it when I see a woman wearing a very beautiful dress, then look at her legs and see broken veins. Kills the whole look.

Slips are very hard to find. I needed one for my son's wedding in June and it took 7 stores before I found one. The young cashiers at Penney's and Macy's didn't know what the heck I was talking about. I finally found it Kohls, but a very limited selection.

When dressed up and in a dress you ware pantyhose.you only go bare when you are in sportclothes.Lets be ladies you will feel like a queen.

I have always hated panty hose but wore them when I was dressed up. No more when I see many women going sans hose. In the deepest winter , I wear dressy pants and maybe thigh ones. Hate the feel of panty hose. I was a skinny kid and even I wore girdles as a young teen because everyone did. How archaic it seems. Have never worn one since I was 17.

I guess I missed the memo, I didn't know that pantyhose were considered to be 'out'. I wear them when I wear a dress. Not just because of the leg issue but because of the foot-in-shoe issue. I don't like to wear shoes without a sock or a stocking. I wear knee-highs when I wear dress slacks and my hand knit socks when I wear regular pants. I don't wear dresses very often, can't remember the last time I did, but I always keep panty hose on hand for when I do.

If you think you will look better, which makes you feel better, wear them Kathleen. If it's warmer that day, wear something nude and if it's super cold you could wear more color and a sweater/jacket too.

My legs have sure changed over the years and I can't imagine wearing a knee high dress without hose. Oh I wish I could but the veins, pores and old skin just ruined my hoseless days.

I agree that they are making a comeback, the last time I was in Macys and Nordstrom's the pantyhose displays are getting larger and are prominent again. Thank heavens!! I agree....while women may think they can get away with it, they really cannot, even the thin ones!

Let's not fool ourselves.. women dress for women... if we were dressing for men, we would all be wearing stockings with garters and push up bustiers!

I have decent legs (no unsightly veins) and have for years gone bare. I guess at a certain age though, anyone's legs could become unattractive and need to be covered. Now, if it's a funeral or something very formal, or I was a lawyer, I'd probably wear hose. But I wear skirts and dress type outfits.. to church or to stores or to meetings (where others may even be in jeans). To those types of events, I feel fine not wearing hose. I even felt fine at most weddings or cocktail parties going bare... although, that is the fad that I think is changing.

I think you'll see even the younger girls who have nice legs, start to cover them with pantyhose (especially in the cooler months). But, I think for years, both ways will be acceptable. Too many women like going bare legged to change. I personally feel so much better and I feel I look better bare legged. Nylons are always twisting around or I get a snag and they run...and that looks horrible! Plus they are cut to go up too high; my stomach is fine if you leave it alone--I don't need a tight band around it to create a seam and a tummy bulge.

Ok, thanks! Lazypup, I used to wear them in the Air Force too in Germany, under my BDUs. Our office was in a shack with very little heat and I used to freeze. They were thinner and worked better than thermal underwear.

Now to find a nice dress for a very short, middle aged woman that comes to my mid-calf....and has some sleeve that covers my flapping arms.

I wear pantyhose when I go to church on Sundays; also, under my pants in the winter.

I don't own any pantyhose. I wear slacks in the winter and wear CuddleDuds under my slacks when it gets really cold. Other than winter, I wear longer skirts that come to mid calf or below and I can wear knee highs with them. Come summer I use a natural looking self tanner and wear knee length dresses with sandals. I don't have any ugly looking veins, I had those taken care of several years ago. I am 69 and was blessed with good looking legs.

Well, I bought a sweater dress in a burgandyish color. And control top pantyhose because I still have a big tummy. Now to find some shoes to go with it.

I wear dresses/suits and pantyhose every day to work and I live in Florida. It doesn't matter how great anyone's legs are - it simply looks unprofessional to go bare-legged.

used to but not anymore...but then i only wear slacks, or jeans...and with those knee hi's...

don't know if you like easy spirit shoes but found the nicest pair of slipper flats...much easier to walk in when going to and from parking...

If I ever put on a dress again I will wear them. I don't care for the no hose trend. Especially older women, who wants to see white legs and dimples.

I did wear tights under slacks last year, nice and warm.

I do wear pantyhose on occasion.

The darker shades are considered more fashionable with a dress, nowadays.

I think if you are dressing up you should wear either panty hose or thigh highs.I just think people look underdressed without nylons when they are supposed to be dressed up.

A lot of the tv stars don't wear them,like Kelly Rippa and some of the other hostess's of shows don't wear them either,also some of the runway models.

MY own personal opinion is that they make the outfit and the person look finished.

Oh and i really hate to see women in dresses in the winter time with open toed shoes as well and no hose!!!JMO

I went to a wedding a couple of weeks ago and I did wear them. I didn't feel right not wearing and my shoes were uncomfortable without them. I'm not all that much into style though.
