Beaded crystal necklace completed; 3 pics

My friend's daughter is all set for her home coming dance. She has a dark red, floor length strapless gown, silver shoes and purse, and I finished her necklace last night. I made earrings to match, but I mailed them without taking photos. They are simple French hooks with a 6mm CZ and the red/clear teardrop dangle added.

Here's the 20" necklace.

I asked my neighbor to model it for me; she has the most beautiful skin I've ever seen.

The two front links were tangled; I didn't notice them until after I took the photo.

I didn't get a very good photo of the 4-inch-long back dangle.

I built the necklace using Swarovski crystals (18 6x9-mm Siam red teardrops, 18 3-mm clear round crystals, 6 4-mm red round crystals, sterling silver wire, clasp, and jump rings, 17 silver/rhodium links from the Tierracast Co., and 12" of necklace chain.

What I have seen most of lately was a board anywhere from 2-6 inches tall by about10" inches with different knobs You could use different large beads or pegs and paint them to match the decor. Some of them have used rustic wood and some cute verses. The hangers have been a couple holes with fabric through it for a hanger or a hanger on the back. I also saw one that was a frame any size would work but think the one I saw was around 4 tall and 12 wide. Just leave the cardboard backing in it that comes with a frame. You could cover cardboard with something if you like. Cut little sticks with short branches (3/4 to 1 inch) long enough to fill the frame. In the case of 4x12 the sticks would be 4 inches. Glue them in where the glass would fit and fill side by side. Same idea as a tree branch.

As I recall, the stiffener was made by Aleene's, right, Jenni? I couldn't find it anywhere around here so Jenni helped me out. *hugging on my buddy's neck* I think you can find it online, though, the bottle is now white and pink, I think. I've also read about people using liquid starch, but I didn't try it. The biggest thing is- be sure the stiffener is completely dry before you take the balloon out, or it will collapse. I had that happen a couple of times, so I stuck another balloon inside the mess and blew it back up and then wet it again and let it dry completely again, and salvaged it. Kudzu- I nearly gave up during my first star, I just couldn't figure out the 3-D part of the star, but once I did I felt like such a doofus, lol. I guess I don't read instructions well, I do better with videos. Thanks for looking and admiring, ladies!

It works on any computer with a USB port and has been used and accessed by the urgent care team. It doesn't have to access the Internet or go online it is a file stored on a USB flash drive. The ones that have to be called in are time consuming. This is direct access. I was to the point of not having enough room to engrave everything on the metal plate of the bracelets. I do also have an engraved medic alert dog tag necklace but I don't wear it very much, I don't like wearing necklaces. I have never heard of hospitals not looking at them. I have only had very positive feedback and response from all the medical community I have been around. I am considering a new USB one that is stainless steel and can use all my pretty beaded jewelry bracelets that I was using on my regular medic alert plate. These all contain PHR (Portable Health Record) or EMR (Electronic Medical Record). Which provides as much medical information as you want to include in the file. So I can be certain that they know exactly what they need to know immediately. If I had only one thing I needed to alert on I would probably still use the metal plate engraved. They definitely don't have to be ugly anymore! For those who think that you need to look at a few of the sites that offer the beaded jewelry bracelets which the plates attach to, there's some beautiful ones available. I have one I made with lapis lazuli beads and silver it's one of my favorites. It is great because it makes the young girls want to wear their bracelets since they are so stylish.

Juellie 1962 - It didn't take all that long, but I didn't time the job. I've been working on it for a couple weeks, but only in the mornings, and not every morning.

My eyes object to focusing on tiny details at night anymore. LOL I'm going to say it took eight hours, maybe less.

I guess "tedious" is in the fingers of the worker. I found it relaxing. I used 5mm jumprings to connect each of the bigger links together. Then I used ball-point headpins to string the red and clear crystals and form a wired loop. Since I attached the loop directly to the link it was a bit more complicated than using jump rings.

I made a couple of links each way, took photos, and let my friend choose which technique she wanted. I purchased a set of bent-nose chain link pliers, to use in conjuction with the regular chain link pliers, and it was not hard at all.

Patti 43 ~ Yes; when I tried it on it looked so much better than hanging from nails on the livingroom wall! LOL Still, my sun-damaged, overweight, turkey neck did not really "add" to the necklace so I called up a young friend and said (in my best vampire voice) "I need your neck!" She laughed, and agreed to model.

Lunch Lady 48, Mama Toad ~ I can't take credit for designing the beaded back drop. I have been gleaning necklace ideas from the internet, books, Etsy, and eBay. I found several beaded/crystal "wedding necklaces" that had long, beaded back drops. I loved the detail they added.

Since she's wearing a strapless dress (not my favorite style for anyone but I know they're 'in style') there's a lot of exposed "skin." It seemed to call for "something", thus the beaded dangle.

Kat ~ If her mother approves, I'll post of photo of her, faced blurred out, once she's dressed for the event.

Ont Gal ~ Maybe I should design a couple of pieces and send them to my favorite A-list gals (Bullock and Zellweger) as a gift! LOL I don't think my Swarovski crystals and sterling will hold up against Harry Winston's diamonds, rubies, and platinum, but I do love the hand-worked looked.
