Do you wear Charm Bracelets?
Comments (34)The true Pandora can be expensive; if you like the look, but want to start a charm bracelet less expensively, I would recommend DiVinci at the Hallmark stores. DD and I discovered the line while Christmas shopping and ironically, we both ended up getting each other a bracelet and just a few starter pieces. I think I spent less than $60 for a toggle bracelet, two stopper end pieces, 2 stones in the sea blue family and 2 in the green family, and 1 dangle charm. Check out the cute little "2 peas in a Pod" dangle - that's the one I got her representing her marriage. Of course they are not real gold or silver, but they are fun. I wear mine 2-3 times a week and it is holding up well. These would be fun gifts for tweens and teens who don't take care of expensive jewelry, or just anyone who likes cute, cheap jewelry (me). Comments (46)lkplatow - what a lovely and thoughtful gift. I am sure your MIL will be thrilled. You will be giving a gift that can be built upon not only by you, but now friends and other family members can purchase a charm or two for special occasions. Someone posted about the other brands of this bracelet being inferior as they aren't solid sterling (for the silver as opposed to the gold Pandora). While I am not sure about Trolls or Brighton, I did check out Kohl's silver version of this bracelet. and it is, in fact, solid sterling. The price point of the Individuality Bracelets and beads (Kohls)is a more affordable option for anyone who wants this type of bracelet in silver, but doesn't want to spend Pandora-type $$. As far as the durability of the glass beads - I've had mine for quite a few years and haven't yet had a glass bead break or chip. I have both Pandora and other brand glass beads. I am very hard on my jewelry, and don't remove it to wash dishes, etc. I like that you've chosen the sea turtle charm as one of the starter charms for your MIL's bracelet. Very thoughtful to personalize the bracelet with something you do together as a family. As a matter of personal choice, I think this type of bracelet is so much more versatile than the "Nomination" or stretchy charm bracelet that came out about 10 or so years ago. While I do have one of those, I never wore it as frequently as I wear my Pandora. For me, it is like comparing apples and oranges. Since I have accumulated many different colored glass beads, so I can make combinations of colored beads mixed with the other charms when I want to compliment a color I may be wearing. Personally, I don't like my bracelet full of charms, but prefer it only half filled. Happy Holidays!...See MoreTell me about medical alert bracelets
Comments (27)As part of my job, I teach and provide medical oversight for more than 1,500 EMT & Paramedics. Especially if someone is confused or unconscious, they will check for medic alert tags. However, EMT & Paramedics are not likely to take the time to call a special number. @ jmck, if someone is truly allergic to aspirin (not just some "upset stomach"), they should not be given it during a "heart attack." Jewelry is often banned in sports because it gets caught on things and causes serious, sometimes life and limb threatening, injuries. Can write critical info on index card, and put it in a pocket. (We check pockets when people are confused or unconscious.) There are also medic alert shoe tags....See MoreUpdate-medical alert bracelet
Comments (29)The US system is messed up, electronic record-wise. Part of the problem being that the world of medicine lagged behind most other sectors in adopting IT and more modern technologies. Larger providers led the way but many others were slow and interconnections weren't a priority. A good example is that hospitals were probably the last customers of the mostly long-gone world of pager users. Electronic medical records and systems needed a final kick in the pants, part of which was given by Medicare charging a penalty starting in 2015 for providers not using electronic records. My primary care physician retired for that reason at that time, citing his refusal to make such a change. Going the other way, I had occasion a few years ago to go to an Urgent Care facility of a large practice that includes docs and hospitals nearly 500 miles away from home. I signed a number of forms at check in without looking at them. Sometime between then and when I was seen by a doc 15 minutes later, they had downloaded some portion of my health file from the medical school group practice I use where I live. The urgent care doc had that information on the screen in the exam room and asked questions me a number of questions, including whether the list of prescriptions (that I hadn't supplied) was current....See More- 11 years agolast modified: 11 years ago
