May I please ask yet again for prayer?

Thank you all so much for your outpouring of love and prayers following my mom's heart attack and surgery. She seemed to do pretty well initially. A lot of tubes and machines and such but that is to be expected.

She came off the ventilator OK and we even fed her a few spoons of Jello Saturday night. Sunday morning, we managed to feed her a few bites of oatmeal and some gravy, but it wasn't long before things started to go downhill.

Her heart and lungs are just so weak, her heart just wasn't beating regularly, and the doctors have had a hard time balancing her meds to control blood pressure, heart rate and urine output.

They put her back on the vent this afternoon (Sunday) and on a feeding tube. She is stable now but very critical. She has received the best of care and the support of all her family. It's all up to God now.

Please keep us in your prayers.

I'm sorry, Gellchom. You are so sweet to ask. I started a new thread "Update on Anna" since this one was getting quite lengthy. She got the results from the Pet scan on Wednesday of this week. It showed a spot on her spine that could possibly be the result of an old injury, which she doesn't remember having, but at any rate they are going to do an MRI on April 2nd. She will see the oncologist on April 17th and learn the results then. I'm hanging on to the thought that she fell down a complete flight of stairs at home a few years ago and hit the wall in front of her with her left foot. Tore her heel all to pieces and she has a brass plate and screws in it. She was off work for several weeks. Nothing was said about a back injury at the time, but????? I have not mentioned this to her. False hope is not a good thing, I'm afraid. Thanks again. jude

Mellisa is at home. The surgery went well. She was in a lot of pain and had a difficult time breathing. They did keep her on oxygen until, I think it was Saturday. They also left the drainage tube in until Saturday, and altogether (surgery and post op) about 1000 cc of fluid was drained. Lab was done and no infection or bacteria found. She was discharged yesterday, and her husband and two of the kids (teen age daughter and step daughter) made the trip home with her. Thank you so much for all the prayers and good wishes. They help more than anything! Next hurdle is to find out if this will be successful long term.

I'm so sorry Leslie. As someone who has had a brain tumor I know how scared you are. Do you know if the tumor is malignant? Does it have a name? I had a benign tumor called an Acoustic Neuroma. It was a slow growing tumor that was 3cm when they found it so it had to be there for a long time to get that big. It was "kissing" the brain stem (that's how one of the doctors decribed it.) The best advice I can give you is don't rush into anything and do your homework. Since I don't know what kind of tumor your DGS is dealing with I can't help with that but will be glad to if you can provide a name. I opted for radiation because the surgery was so high-risk. I found that they could do one large dose of radiation which could cause collateral damage or a series of smaller doses to minimize or eliminate collateral damage. I went with the small doses called Fractionated Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Johns Hopkins. I had 5 treatments over a 5 day period. The only side effects were vomiting one day and I was very tired and slept alot for a few days. That was in March/April 2000 and I am fine. With radiation I was told the tumor would never go away completely but would die and not cause problems. That is what has happened. I had an MRI again last year and everything was great. Now I don't know if Nate is candidate for FSR but it's worth looking into. They don't do this just everywhere - at least they didn't 8 years ago so you may have to look around for a place that does this. Thanks everyone!! I just now got home and had to be at the hospital at 5:45 this morning. The Dr. says he got all the stones blasted. So I got that worry off of me, but have to wait till I get through this mess before I see the other doctors. Thanks again to all my KT friends. Patty

UPDATE Mom made it through the night. She had a rough spell for a few hours from about 2:00-4:00 but the doctors got her leveled out. Her surgeon said he is amazed at how well she is doing, and her three doctors had a pow-wow this morning about what procedures, drug adjustments to make today.

She is doing OK for now...holding ur her own. I so appreciate your prayers.
