The weekend is here again- any plans?

Anyone have any plans for the weekend? Marilyn Sue I wonder if there are rummage sales on the weekends and wish I could find some here to go to. I don't have much planned other than some cleaning and if it is cool I may do a little outside work. TGIF everyone. Satine

Yes - plans to work in the yard - the weather is amazing right now. Rain is due in NW Florida on Sunday and Monday, so will work hard Saturday.

Enjoying the weather is certainly on our list as well. DD is coming down to visit tomorrow. I promised her crepes for breakfast (one of her favs). Then we're probably going to the Hanover outlet (great buys on canned goods, frozen veg and bags of snacks. The Amish Market--I've got some good buy something and get something else free coupons for this week. And a lovely little bakery owned by one of my neighbors--DD wants to get a treat for a friend who had surgery this week, and I always share some of my grape jelly with the gals who work there. We may hit some of the farm markets as well.

Sunday? No specific plans, but we continue to work on getting the new place just the way we want it. DH sealed the deck this week, so I'd like to get the furniture back and nicely arranged.

Hi Heather, I apologize if my comments are redundant since I didn't read through all the previous comments. We have 5 kids, and we have a similar upstairs loft type set up, but ours doesn't have the open railing along it. We have a 2 story great room similar to yours, and the railing is open between the foyer and the great room. We like the 2 story great room, although it can be challenging to decorate. One thing that we did that I love was make the "cat walk" the upstairs hallway overlooking the great room and the foyer extra wide. Ours is 8 feet wide. It makes that hallway feel less scary with openings on both sides, and it feels welcoming. I know this is personal preference, but with kids, I would close off the overlook from the loft to the great room. I'm imagining that you are giong to use that loft space for toys and video games, etc., and it is nearly impossible to keep that looking nice at all times. Plus, the noice traveling down will be difficult to control. Also, my kids have thrown or accidentally dropped things from the "cat walk" which is around the corner from the loft (like your set up) to the great room. I know that there would be many more things being thrown over if that railing were open all the way around. The other things I was wondering about was your 1st floor laundry room. In our house, the kids generate the most amount of laundry, and it is a TON. Our laundry is upstairs and it makes it so much more convenient to gather up their clothes and put them away. I couldn't imagine hauling baskets and basekets of clothes up and down the stairs. The other thing I agree with are the windows in the kitchen. I'd try to get more natural light in the kitchen, and have windows on the wall with the fridge (since they aren't covered by a 4 season room). I worry that your kitchen will be dark otherwise. Finally, since your dining room is your main and only dining area where you will put a table, I wonder if you'd want to have a sight line from there to the great room. We have only one main dining area as well, and I know it's nice for us to be able to have a sight line into the great room. Although we start dinner as a family, kids start taking off/wandering off while we're still eating since it takes the adults awhile to eat since we don't sit down from running around untile everybody is practically done. Anyway, as much as we'd like everybody to sit at the table the entire time and engage in lenghty dinner conversation, the reality is that we're just glad that we got everyone around the table for some part of dinner and that we can still keep an eye on them in the family room and feel like we're still having dinner together. Anyway, best of luck. It looks like it's going to be a wonderful home.

Parties??? they sound like they will be lots of fun. I just made a pail of pickles and passed out several bags of cukes to the neighbors. Will do some dills tomorrow. I have picked a good 30 lbs of tomatoes...4 ripe ones and the ones picked are starting to turn. We like the acid pic pic taste but they are very mellow this year. Oh, yes I also have a large bag of apples my DD wants pies made. They are off her tree...I am not really in the mood for pies but will try and push it before they spoil. I am making some new curtains for my kitchen. I had real nice swag ones but they are a real chore to get off and on the window and I don't do so good on a ladder any more. I found a bright plaid - colors of orange, yellow, green, blue. My kitchen is a celeric green and my chairs are navy. I would really like some white daisies on my curtains, but haven't done hand applique...but I thought I could just do one on each curtain once in a while and would eventually have a few daisies..hehe. What do you think? I can't devote much time to this right now as I have another more important project to work on, but daisies would be lovely in January!!! Jean

Rhome you are correct - we did go back and forth with everyone here previously on the fridge location -deciding between to the right of the mudroom door/left of the sink , vs where it currently is. And we actually got consensus on moving it to the range wall (closer to breakfast room, family room , access to range etc.) after many of your posts pushing for it there. The brainstorming just brought that to the surface again. I have no problem with thoughts being raised even without all the answers. You guys are the best at just making us all think this through during the hard parts! Malhgold-you definitely have me rethinking our mudroom space -it has room for cubbies and a closet. But the spare fridge there vs. the laundry room would be a lot better . Not sure if my DH will give up the 48" -that's the one thing he wants, but will see. I guess it comes down to making the 2 hutches more functional really. And finding food storage space other than the back pantry area. The left hutch is under utilized but it was thought since it was the first thing you see coming in the house that it should look nice (ie. no appliances) and could serve as a serving hutch or something for the breakfast room/screen porch. It would have made a nice spot as well for the wet bar (closer to breakfast room,family room, screened porch but it was thought that a sink,undercounter fridge etc. wasn't the best first impression coming in the door . Maybe it wouldn;t look so bad? I guess that is the hard part at this point is making the best use of both of those hutches whether they are wet bar, breakfast ctr,snacks ,storage , etc. so that more of the kitchen is used on a daily basis. bmore=glad you are chiming in. I know you preferred the other plan so any help in improving this one is really appreciated!! I thought the advantium would be more convenient by the range vs. by in the wet bar/snack area. I do feel I use a MW now more for meal prep -than for kids snacks (other than popcorn).So it seems better placed on the cooking side of the kitchen.Maybe as the kids get older(they are 3,7,9) they will be looking to use it more for quick snacks/meals. So I guess either location could be beneficial. The NanaWall system is awesome! I am not sure it would work in the kitchen as the folding part would require too much space (and maybe not convenient for kids in and out), but it is a possibility we considered along the wall between the breakfast room and screenporch.I think the Nanawall inspired us on the whole remodel actually to make the breakfast room and porch feel as one big room! The price for a 10' section was $8K. So when reality of the cost of the whole project sits in we will likely go with the french sliders in both sections! If we had a nice pool to walk out to like in all the photos of the NanaWall, we may splurge!

With DH still recouperating from his surgery, we'll be spending a fairly quiet weekend. Will run to the grocery store this morning. DD is coming down for the day. Then tomorrow, we'll probably just hang around the house. I may run down to the mall for a few mintues, to grab some Christmas decorations that are on sale, but not much else. May try to encourage DH to get out and maybe go someplace for lunch.

A friend of mine is giving a party tomorrow night with Irish musicians. We'll be reading a little poetry in the middle of it all too. Should be fun!

On Sunday I'm going to attempt to repair the leaks in my kitchen faucet. I'm not expecting that to be fun.

Yes, I'm going to "Fla across Florida" tomorrow. It's a 3 day thing from one end of Fl to the west side. It's about 270 miles long. I won't be going very far though.

We are taking our 'Blu Dandy" (motor-home) to a rally in the northern part of Oregon. It hasn't been anywhere this year, so we are really looking forward to seeing all our travel companions and catching up.

BTW I canned Anne's Salsa from the Cooking Forum....OMGosh....it is heavenly. Only did half a batch so will do more when we come home. (I don't eat salsa much, so will watch my tummy tonight~

I do have plans to go back to the town wide rummages today with Amber, Alyssa, and Cheryl, Satine. We had so much fun yesterday even though the day started out rainy. Hopefully on Sunday I can go to church and then just do whatever after I come back home. You all sound like you will be kept busy over the weekend. I am glad your son invited you to church Glenda. Have a safe trip too Marie and Joann. Nannie I too have been canning salsa and hope to do more. I use my niece's recipe. I have seen Annie's recipe though. Alisande good luck with the repairs to your faucet. Azzalea your plans sound nice also, enjoy your time with your DD. Kay don't over do out in the yard, I need to try and get a little of that work done too!

All city garage sale in nearby town, so DD and I are going to that. I have plants that I want to get into the ground...mostly hostas that have to moved as I made a new bed for the ones being crowded out.

I have a one years old's birthday BBQ to attend on Sunday. I'm supplying the cake for around 60 guests. So that's why it's 5:30 AM and the 22" by 14" (almost a full sheet) cake is in the oven. Just like a real bakery I bake in the wee hours of the morning. No AC here.

Tonight I'll build the thing. The 3-D Puppy part was baked last night and is in freezer.

Nothing new planned here. Started my laundry already and having my morning coffee drink while I sit here and wake up. I got a phone call at 4 AM from my son and I was sleeping so well. My coffee drink is something from the dairy dept called Delight Mocha. Don't try it girls, it is addictive. I love it over ice, better than Starbucks. Its' wonderfully cool here for the last 3 days with rain. Such a nice change from the heat. Have a nice day everyone.

Getting ready to leave for my niece's baby shower. JUST managed to finish her gift this morning. I crocheted her a 12-point star babyghan and sewed two receiving blankets (one side is brown - I know, strange choice, but it works with the colors, and the other side is little animals in wild colors on a blue background), 2 baprons and a bib. Michael's room theme is turtles, which are on the print flannel I used.

I'm taking DH's BEST potato salad and one of the games, too.

Other than the shower, nothing else planned.

Beginning preparations for our RV trip next weekend to Oklahoma for my Mother in laws 90th birthday party and mini family reunion. Loading up everything we can now while we have the time and not rush.

Do some shopping!
It is a beautiful day here today also, we have had a few days of needed rain and now the birds are all happy and chirping up a storm LOL

Sounds like some good times out thee. I have been sooo lazy today and have accomplished nothing. I did strip my bed and wash the linens, cleaned the kitchen and took a nap. Tried to reach my daughters but I guess they are out and about so it has been very quiet at my house. After I remake the bed maybe I'll start a new book. Take care everyone. Satine

Nothing much going on here today. Tomorrow Bobby and his girlfriend will come for dinner.

Now that I have moved our trip to Texas to the beginning of October I need to start planning my food to make ahead. I have already roughed out our route and dates. Who do husbands have appointments in the middle of when I want to be gone? Thank goodness we are retired and can be flexible.
