What are your plans for this weekend, National Quilting Day?

I plan to work on my April table runner. I have the base made and have to do the applique, which is a bunny with long ears.

Again, I have made changes to the pattern. The pattern uses blue squares for the center with the applique, and tan/beige squares for the border. I used the tan squares in the center and will do the applique per the pattern. For the border, the pattern has an Easter egg appliqued to each square. I used a charm pack of fabrics with bright pastels (Birdie by Moda)for the squares and won't put any eggs on the border.

I will post a picture when I get it finished.

Quilt show! Taking lots of pictures and buying lots of stuff. We have a charity booth that sells lots of donated fabric for cheap. Don't need much but you never know. Just mingling with friends and seeing lots of great quilts makes the day for me.

The LQS here had a 30 percent off sale, already back and getting ready to pre-wash 4 yards of batiks. Have no clue what to do with them, oh, well... And I'm hoping to finish sewing the binding to the front of "Palmetto Blues" - will be so glad to get this finished!

Seeing as how we were forecast a little drift of snow today and then clearing and moderating, and instead we are watching bucket fulls drop from the sky and traffic stuck on the road in front, I don't plan on going anywhere today, nor being outside working any more than I have to. I am more than half, and working on 2/3 done on hand quilting a Queen sized scrappy. I haven 't had much time to quilt in the last two days, so maybe I can catch up for lost time today. This is the second scrappy I have attempted to hand quilt, and I am so very pleased with how it's coming out. The reverse side is actually neat, LOL. If I stay on schedule, the quilting was projected to take me six weeks. I am getting so pumped, however, seeing more done than undone that I seem to be picking up speed. It's not been easy, as this one is really done with all sorts of scraps, some light and easily needled like shirtings, and some quite dense and hard to work. I'm glad I'm not working against a real deadline.

I am sitting here LOL about petalpatsy's attic windows. I started one in peach. Blech............the only reason I started it in peach was I had a lot of peach material I didn't want to use on anything. Duh. So why would you invest time and painstaking work on a peach based attic windows. I also ended up with four in squares. Duh again. I still want to do an attic windows quilt, but Lord Luv a Duck, not tiny squares! Make them dudes biguns. So, I got about thirty by thirty inches, sewn together and the contrasting blocks inserted and it hangs on my wall times three years. It's going to be a pillow sometime this summer so I can say it wasn't time wasted. Petalpatsy, I know how you feel. I even considered making it a medallion, too. The moral of the story is use muslin for attic windows. LOL.

Theresa, I don't see yours as a mish-mash of color! I think the effect it gives is soft and soothing. I have trouble putting color together, but you did an excellent job of it! For some reason, I feel a little control is needed for the scrap quilts I make. And, it could be all in my head. :-) I've been thinking about using a yellow center square with green outside squares, flowery fabric with a brown path to look like a flower garden....but, will see if this will transpire or not. lol

I actually celebrated National Quilting Day a few days early with my Mom. The Southport Quilters Guild held their Annual Quilt Show at the Kenosha Public Museum (on the shore of Lake Michigan.) I knew it would be crowded on Sat., the 17, and it would be very hard for my 89-yr-old Mom to get around with all those people there, listening to speakers and such. So we went last Tuesday, the 13th, in the early afternoon, and she was able to use one of the museum's wheelchairs to get around. Very few people were in the quilt display area, so we had a wonderful time gazing at all the beautiful quiltwork. "Stars" was the theme of the show. I was inspired by the high quality hand and machine piecing and quilting. My Mom was intensely interested in the small "challenge" quilts displayed on one wall. The challenge was to design a small wall hanging (less than 24" x 24") using a color pallet of three shades/tints of a color plus only one other color. My Mom, being an artist herself, was intrigued with the creative landscapes/seascapes and tiny intricate designs of the quilters. I would really like to get at least 4 blocks sandwiched and at least one block machine appliqued for the Seasonal Challenge ....there's only 11 more days. But, I'll also be spending the afternoon at the hospital getting both hips and kidneys x-rayed.

Linda, the bunnies on your table runner are really cute! I was thinking of National Quilting Day this morning and saw in our newpaper that there was an estate sale close by and they listed "old quilts" --- well, the quilts weren't as old as I expected and although they were lovely, I wasn't shopping for a semi-modern quilt at those prices. However, I found a quilted child's skirt for $3. It is such a fun item and has a ton of quilting in it, so that --- along with a few other things --- came home with me. I don't usually do that sort of thing so it was fun.
What a beautiful day it is here... too pretty to stay inside and sew.
(I do not have a child to wear the skirt; I am just keeping it because it is so INTERESTING! I wish I could post a picture but PhotoBucket and my computer don't seem to get along these days.)

I did nothing even remotely connected with quilting. I have one in progress, and nearing completing and would love to work on it, but I also own g'houses and Easter is neigh upon us ( a fast-paced holiday for horticulturists) and also trying to put my spring line in order so I can go on automatic pilot until the Mother's Day rush.

I miss quilting!

Took a concealed handgun carry permit class with my DH. I was daydreaming about quilting a knitting...does that count? :)

Linda - love you April table runner. Visited your site and saw February and March too. Are these runners from a pattern book and if so, which one? I would love to try to make a runner too. Very inspiring. TFS Carol

Carol, the table runners are from a pattern called Calendar Table Runners #140 from Little Quilt Company.I bought it at a quilt store but you can get it online at www.littlequiltcompany.com
My challenge to myself is to make one each month. I have not followed the pattern exactly, changing placement of color and appliques.

I want to know what toolgranny bought at the quilt show!

My weekend was more about gardening and I did enough of that so I'm very stiff and sore today. But I did a little work on the BOM. And I scored big at the dollar store, finding 17 clear plastic bins the will get me started organizing fabric and 'stuff' on the shelves. If I fold fabric fatquarter style it fits just right in the bin. And we hung a shade in the sewing room window; something we've needed for a long time.

I spent the better part of the day in a high school gym where my son competed in his first karate tournament (he's 8 yr old). He got honorable mention on the sparring (like fighting). He was disappointed on the call that put him in 4th, but we were very happy since it was his first tournament. I did get to sit in the bleachers waiting for the competition to start and was able to applique a little bit.

I love the bunny table runner, just in time for Easter!

I had hoped to go to the quilt show in Atlanta, but my brother who lives close by (where I could spend the night) was out of town. Maybe the next one?

I spent saturday at a quilting day with my guild. Morning class was awesome learning sashiko quilting and a sweatshirt purse in the afternoon. Went to NJ for an annual Paddy's day party that evening and a quick night away with just hubby. On the way home Sunday hit a quilt show and picked up some delicious coffee themed fabric and then hit a flower show!! Great weekend over all!!

Jackie, I thought I had a good weekend but I do believe you take the prize! Quilt classes, partying with hubby, quilt show, fabric buying AND flower show... sounds like perfection!
