Time for a break.......

With all that is happening in my own little world and the big wide one out there, I decided to make some fresh blueberry/raspberry muffins and some herb tea. Anyone want to join me, put your feet up, relax and send kind thoughts to everyone who needs them? Budster who is looking at the coastal moutains and sunshine and hope your world is looking a little brighter no matter where you are. P.S. There is room on the sofa...anyone want to join me?

you bet! it's been a wet dreary day and dh is being a turkey...i'll bring the chai tea...

i'm looking at what's left of one of my willow trees...it is now half it's size and thanks be to higher Power, it missed my just fixed van (that was hit 2 weeks ago by another tree!)

Should have googled first: Tubers that have not already begun to sprout when you receive them will generally show signs of growth within 2-6 weeks after planting. From White Flower Farm. Ix-nay on the original question.

A lot of places I've worked hourly had us round to the nearest quarter hour--so 7:05 would be 7:00, and 7:10 would be 7:15. It just makes it easier to do the math. Bathroom breaks are on the clock, every place I've ever worked. Lunch? I agree with PPs. If he's good, just ignore it. You can check your state's labor laws. Many states require a certain amount of paid and unpaid break time, the amount varies depending on the total number of hours worked. The laws may not apply to an independent contractor such as this handyman, but they are a good place to start in determining if his breaks are reasonable.

Corgilvr, I hear ya. Last fall, we desperately wanted to replace the carpet in the kitchen. We pulled up the carpet and the sub-florring was a nightmare, so a friend said her brother who is very good at laying tile would bid on it. He was very good, but he took FOREVER. Believe me, we do not have a large or intricate floorplan, but he did the job "between jobs", dates, going out of town--- you name it. I got sick and tired of having our refridgerator in our dining room, our kitchen table in the middle of the living room and everything displaced. We lived a month like this. The night that I sat in my car and cried as I drove to get carry-out was it. He had just finished and my fiance and I needed to clean up and move everything back. I had not noticed that the tile guy did not cover anything,--- and I mean anything--- when he grinded down the old linoleum to lay the backer board. He also had a fan going at the time. So, a thick layer of micro-fine dust was everywhere,--- in the dishes inside the kitchen cabinets, the pantry, on pictures, in the dining room chair pads, --- you name it, there was dust everywhere. Oh, yeah, all over the textured stucco walls, too. We cleaned for so long and so hard afterwards. I'm still finding things and thinking, 'yeah, that came from when we had the kitchen flooring replaced almost a year ago.'

"The thing is that SD is almost 14 and has a life of her own now too" So, honestly, and without pressure from you, how does your stepdaughter feel about spending more time with her mother? Her mother's comments make it seem that the mother is under the impression the girl wants some extra time there. Often children of divorce will tell mom one thing, and tell dad something else, because they dont want to go against either parents wishes ( because they love both parents) ITs a lot easier for your SD to tell her mom that " stepmom and dad wont let me come" rather than to say that she actually is the one who doesnt want to come. Conversely, its a lot easier for your stepdaughter to say to you and your husband " mom is insisting I come" than to say I want to be with my mom more. FIguring out what she really wants for herself is the hardest thing to do, but necessary in order to make good decisions for everyone. The ONLY way to do that is if real mom and dad, and daughter all talk together at the same time. Then nothing can be hidden, her true wishes will hae to come out. Its also easier for us as parents or stepparents, to believe that the other parent is the one causing our child to act the way they do. If it is a case where SD actually wishes she could see mom more, allowing it will help curb the desire to move out. If stepdaughter doesnt want to because she is busy with things that she chooses to do instead of seeing mom, then that is perfectly appropriate to tell mom, or better yet, have a conference call between your husband, your SD, and mom, in which activities are discussed and your stepdaughter can articulate her wishes, with both parents present so there can be no misunderstandings or accusations of bias later. If its a case where the daughter wants to visit mom, and its inconvenient for you and your husband and disrupts your family plans, well you will have to suck it up. 4 weeks in summer is not unreasonable, if your SD wants it,and at 14, you REALLY dont want to go against your SD's wishes. The hardest part is figuring out what those wishes really are, and to what extent those wishes are being influenced by either parent.

Sounds wonderful to me. Scoot over just a bit and I'll join you. My sinuses are making me feel sickey bad, not well. I worked hard today too so I'm ready for a break. Thanks for the invite.

I'll take that offer. I had a really nice day today. The weather was perfect, my DD came for her Sunday afternoon visit, a neighbor dropped in for a "just because chat", I made banana muffins to take to another neighbor who had trimmed my Gold Mop for me, two more neighbors stopped by for a porch visit around dusk, and then a third one sat with us for a short while.

BUT, she told us she had taken her DH to the hospital yesterday and he is still there while they figure out his problem. Also she said another neighbor who went in for a pace maker is still there two weeks later, and my next door neighbor fell and injured his head and is in the hospital. She learned all that while she was at the hospital with her DH. The day ended on a sad note, so your invitation is graciously accepted!
