Are you on blood pressure medicines? I am and took ginkgo bible, which found out is a blood thinner. Only in my case it was from the nose. Now I check all herbs to make sure they are not blood thinners--just a thought. Sure hope you find out what happened as this could be life threatening.

That sounds scary to me. I wouldn't stop investigating the cause.

An elderly friend of mine had chronic very bad nose bleeds that sometimes required transfusions; this went on for several years until they did some sort of surgery that finally stopped them. I'm sorry I can't tell you what type it was, as she passed on last year, tho not from nosebleeds! I hope you quickly find out what the problem is and how to stop it.

Not on any medications to speak of, just high C medication, which was ruled out. But will be picking up a couple humidifiers, as that was one recommendation, don't think it will cure this, but won't hurt and might prevent it from happening again. If I can just get this one to stop. Wish I could blow my nose.

It may need to be cauturized. Not sure if spelling is correct. My grandfather had that done a few times. I don't think it's a big deal to have this done. I would talk to t ENT Dr. about it. Did any of the doctors mention this? Maybe they are hoping humidifiers would help before doing that.

That is what they were trying to do. But could not locate the bleeder that was causing the problem. Initially they were very confident that they could locate it and it would be a simple little process. It is so far back in the nasal cavity that the local ER could not even access it. The specialists really went all the way, amazing how far in your nose they can go. But by the time they got into the nose the bleeding had stopped. I am kind of stymied as to why they could not see clots, as I know there are some back there, which would be covering the bleeder.

Silver2, I have been wondering if your nose bleeding had stopped? When I was a teen I would get nose bleeds often. I hated that blood running down my throat when I tilted my head back, which everyone kept telling me to. Hope all is well and this was just a one time thing.

Thanks for your concern. It finally stopped late Saturday night. Pretty tired after an almost four day marathon of nose bleeds, never did bleed out the front of the nose. Went back to work for about four hours today, but that was all I had the energy for. One of girls at work told me a friend of hers had a three day nose bleed a couple of weeks ago, she just bled from the front, and don't know how hard. Figure weather must have something to do with it, maybe pollen, hot humidity to dry cold weather overnight. Glad it stopped, as it was wearing me out. Finally had a hot bowl of soup today, first hot meal since last Tuesday and it tasted good.
Hope I never get another like it.

What color is the blood? In my younger years, I had been sick for a couple days, was taking aspirin and sudafed. On top of all that, I was pretty run down working on the night shift.
I blew my nose and the tissue came back a bright red. I guess I blew out an artery in my nasal cavity and went right away to the ENT who was treating me for my cold. The combination of drugs had weakened the artery wall and it just gave out.
In the end they had to break my nose, pack it with six feet of gauze and stick me in the hospital for 3-4 days. I was sick to my stomach from all the blood that ran down the back of my throat, but it healed up and has never recurred.
Never have taken aspirin or sudafed again.

It was bright red and a lot of it. That is why I went to the ER for it. And I am glad they did not have to break my nose, what a horror show you went through. But I had no cold nor had been taking any sinus type medication and probably in the last 30 days had taken all of four aspirin. Two the Monday prior and probably a week before, only take aspirin for bad headaches, which I don't have very often. Spoke with my pharmacist and he thought I might be allergic to aspirin, which I would not have connected due to the time lapse in between the nosebleed and the last aspirin that I took. I figured that three days would be a long time for it to linger in my system. But I will take his advice and not use it and just stay with other headache type medications, when needed. And it think the only reason I needed it lately was all the pollen and weather changes, that had given me a couple of headaches.
