Yesterday I got home from work and was trying to make myself a coffee. While the coffee was warming I felt something in the left nostril hit the back of my throat. Which immediately started me coughing and choking a bit. Like having a strand of pasta caught down your throat. Well that passed, about ten minutes later it started again, making me cough, well during the course of coughing I noticed blood on my hand. So that put a whole new spin on it. Spit quite a lot out into tissues. Seemed to stop again, so did a quick internet search on it topic. OK do the right thing, call your MD, so I did, MD out of town, on call MD too busy to see me, hears problem says go to ER. While I am talking to her, have the third bout with even more bleeding and choking. So clean up go to ER. Spend two hours in there, don't have any problems, they see nothing. So they put a spray up my nose and send me home. Tell me it is just a nose bleed, backwards, but just a nose bleed. As nothing comes out my nose only down my throat. Come home, drink a glass of cold milk, figure the only safe place for me is in bed. Nine pm, bleeding again, takes almost an hour or more to ice pack spray and stop. Back to bed, two pm on the ice pack trail again, takes a couple hours to stop, each time, more bleeding longer stopping time. Around six another bout. At nine or so, start to change a bit, still lots of blood, but clots at well, yuk. So think ah ha going to stop, not, two more bouts and back to the ER. They still can see nothing and can't treat, what ever is bleeding is so far back they cannot see it. So they send me to the "BIG" hospital, where the have a nose, ear throat specialist, who is kind enough to squeeze me in. Spent almost three hours in the waiting room to get in, praying the whole time it does not start again while I am out there as the room is packed. And bleeding in public is frankly frowned upon, plus I did not want to get dragged down to their ER. Anyway, with the luck of the Irish, we were called in, and walking down to the exam room the nose cut loose again, as it had been quiet for almost four hours. So I spent the next fifteen or twenty minutes trying to get the nose to stop without ice packs etc. And lucky me, it did stop after about that time frame. Shortest bout I have had with it yet. Than they came in to exam, numbed it and scoped it about five times each, two MD's. One did it four times and could not find anything, and the other came in and did the replay and than the first went back again. Nose is sore now, maybe getting violated like that will teach Miss Nose to dry up. They could not find the bleeder and I don't know what triggers it, I offered to blow my nose, something I have not done since yesterday morning when it was fine. But they passed. Told me to come back when it was bleeding and they might be able to find the bleeder and seal it. Of course they are forty minutes away, so I don't think I can be sure I will still be bleeding when I arrive. My only hope is, that the last bout was shorter duration and with the other signs the nose if giving, maybe it is healing on it's own. I certainly hope so, as I can't go to work like this, nor anyplace else. I do get a nose bleed now and then, but they are rare, not lively and bleed like a good nose bleed should, out the end of the nose. I have never had a problem quite like this. Anyone else have this happen?
