GRRR About Comcast - Opinions?

I've about had it with Comcast and their charges, impossible-to-deceipher-bills, and "like it or lump it" attitude. I have triple play or whatever they're calling it these days: Basic cable, phone, and internet. My bill seems to change every month with no easily detected reason. I just got off the phone with customer service because my bill is $40 over last months (I bought NO movies, no international phone calls, etc.). She said that I have so many credits that it made the amount more.

Huh?

Anyway, long story short, who do you use? Is Verizon only FIOS now? Is FIOS working for you? Does Verizon have a similar triple-play-type deal? What are your experiences between Verizon and Comcast, regarding service, cost, etc.?

If you don't use Comcast or Verizon, who do you use?

Verizon bundle is no big deal. They are bundled with Direct TV. When I called it was just the basic and I can tell you that was not much. We went ahead and got the phone and DSL with them. It runs around $100.00. Love the free long distance since all 3 kids are long distance. We went with Direct Tv for our tv watching. They run great deals all the time. We got free HD tv for life, 2 DVR'S for life and more channels then we could ever want to watch. It is costing us $44.95 a month for 2 years. Plus we get $100.00 for our son recommending it to us. Plus he gets the $100.00 off. They take off $10.00 a month for 10 months. You can refer 10 people and get as much as $1000.00. Our bill now for all 3 runs around $150.00.

We just left Comcast and hated it, too. We were paying $64.00 a month and we weren't getting much. They are trying to compete with Direct and Dish and sent us a DVR box but the kicker was they were going to charge us $17.00 a month for the crazy box. That would have been $81.00 a month for nothing extra. Plus the Tv was going out everytime you turned around. Most people around here have dropped Comcast..

Oh my I grew up with 5 brothers and assorted foster kids and we only had one bathroom. Yea it can be done but what really concerns me is the fact that they hve that huge pool so they MUST entertain. So how on earth can one bathroom work when you entertain?? I mean its one thing for me, Frank and the kids to share a bathroom but to host a large gathering with one bathroom could be a disaster in the making!! The house seems very big from the exterior pics...look at the balloon pics. I am also guessing from the balloom pics that there is no driveway...but yea the one shed looks large enough to put Franks 76 camaro in LOL!! The yellow Vicky (lakehurst) while it had a great garage-FIL said you could prob get 8 cars in there-no kidding!! The basement was indeed an issue plus all the bedrooms were too small-the living room was odd "L" shape. Its a shame cuz I really liked the house from the outside and I really wanted to fall in love with the inside and be done with it but it just wasn't so. On the Red Bank house there if a full basement and a 3rd floor open area. As for my house no new bites. Had a showing scheduled last week but it was a no show! Yea I was pi$$ed!! My house is in the HOMES book this week-the book you get at the grocery store. On the same page is a bubble telling home buyers about $7800 housing grants available so maybe we'll get some action this weekend!! In the meantime I painted my kitchen cabinets this morning. I also went to get some new pulls but they don't carry my size so tomorrow I will paint them too. We also looked at new ranges-we can get one for under $300. The range I have now has issues-while it looks good, I always have to light the jets...Damn new flooring makes everything else look old and tired LOL!!! Frank pointed the front today too...there were some settling issues that needed to be addressed-he did a great job!! Now I think its finally all done...maybe LOL!! I forgot to add this in my last post: paint colors, you could look at a pale sage green or a pale steel blue. Both are cool colors that would contrast the warmth of the wood really well. But with these too, I would probably go with a counter top that is in the same color family as either the walls (green granite with complementing green paint, etc) or the woods (something like santa cecilia or new venetian gold, etc, that would pick up on the woods). I'm not sure how "Old World" either are, though... Otherwise, a pale buttery yellow might work too, but that might be more difficult to pick out something that fits with all the different stains, because it's a little closer. Finally, I don't think you could go wrong with an ivory color. And there are probably many beiges that would work too, although like the yellow, getting just the right one will take some work. (lslandler's paint color is subtle but really nice with the wood finishes.)

Thank you all so much for the VERY good and VERY helpful advice! OK, the spectators are out. I'm pretty paranoid about my green turquoise jewelry and will probably either wear it just to the wedding and have DD hand carry it home again while DH & I head down to Cancun, or wear one of the others. I've been running errands in town - and cleaning for our house & dog sitter all day today, as we leave tomorrow to move DD up to grad school in Colorado Springs. First we need to pack up the big U-Haul truck, DD's car and our Sierra pick-up. Then it's a 5 1/2 hour drive up there. We'll move her in Friday night, all day Saturday, and head home Sunday. So, please forgive me if I don't reply back here again until Monday. I've read every suggestion and am definitely using them to pack for Austin & Cancun starting Monday, so I'll be back then. Keep us in your thoughts and prayers. This is going to be a marathon moving event! Oh, and did I mention that her new apartment in on the 3rd (top) floor and there are no elevators? I may make my 10-pound weight loss after all (LOL)!

linda we pay $144.30 for the entire pkg. much depends on what pkg. you sign on for we do not need or want those sports channel pkgs. or any HBO, etc. so our phone person hooked us up with the right pkg. for us and that dramatically reduces your total. She even asked what channels do you really want? we got way over 100 enough for us plus our important ones. P.S. She was so nice she said OMG you're paying for channels you do not even watch or need, let's fix that. LOL

susie, so you've got Verizon and that's internet, tv, and phone? But the tv is thru DirectTV, not FIOS? I really don't know anything about FIOS or Direct TV - as is probably clear.

Is FIOS for TV only? Or is FIOS phone or internet? Or all 3? Duh - so sorry for being dumb about all of this. So - if FIOS is TV and you go with Verizon, do you get a choice between FIOS and DirectTV? Susie, you said "we went with Direct TV for our TV watching"; that's why I'm thinking there must be a choice.

Of course I'll look online to learn about these things, but I think I've got to get away from Comcast for my own sanity, and I figured I'd get some opinions from the KT, too.

I haven't had any trouble with Comcast but I never pay full price either. Whenever my promotion period is up I just call them and ask to be transferred to the Customer Retention department. I tell them that if they won't continue the promotional price for another 6 months that I'll just cancel my service. We've been doing that for 3 years now - sometimes the price goes up a dollar or two a month.

We can't get FIOS so even if we wanted it it's not in my town. We don't want Comcast for telephone so I'm only eligible for a double play promotion. I admit that they're not the cheapest service around but we haven't had any issues with service or interruptions in years.

Well except for the time my landscaper cut the wire.

No, we have the DSL ( internet) and phone through Verizon.. It was cheaper to go directly through Direct Tv for tv watching.. It is satellite. I have never heard of FIOS..

I tried that maire cate... well, not exactly... lol
we didn't have any deal when we signed up. We've had
comcast for so many years I can't remember. I remember
someone here said that they call them up and ask for a deal
like they are giving the new signees... and they get it.
I tried that once, and they said, "Sorry to lose you,
I'll transfer you to the department to cancel your
subscription!" LOL

i'm such a loser!

I like having the cable internet. Isn't the
other internet really slow?

I have to have comcast for "fast internet"..verizon/frontier's phone lines aren't "able" to handle DSL in my neighborhood..they've not been upgraded.

I have comcast for internet and television..there is no way I'd add phone to that, especially since cable isn't reliable around here either. (again old lines)..

I pay WAY to much a month for cable and internet..

I have Fios bundled. TV, internet, and phone. I can call anywhere in the country free, so I rarely use my cell phone which is prepaid . I have no complaints. I think it's around $160 a month.

The bundled FIOS is what I have also. That includes many HD channels, faster internet access, telephone . The price is 160.00. Not a bad deal at all.

We don't do bundled, mostly because our experience has been that they have expertise and service in one area and not the rest.

We have Direct TV (which we love), Verizon cell phone service and Time Warner internet.
