Oh I know what you mean. I have a muffin top and a spare tire but it is a bit flatter right now.

I really hate when people think that this looks attractive. I'm all for larger people not being afraid to show their bodies but they can do it tastefully.

I also hate it when people over a certain age try to dress like teens. I was in Penney's just today and I noticed an older woman buying teen jeans, the kind that has holes. I would not have thought anything of it and would have assumed that she was buying for someone but I noticed she had ripped up jeans on. All I could think was why? I don't much like the ripped up jeans on teens but I do understand that this is their style. I would have worn the same thing when I was their age but I won't wear this now.

Oops sorry. I didn't mean to start a new post. Getting back on track, yep the muffin top looks stupid.

I've got the dreaded muffin top in the past 2 years. I've enjoyed wearing empire high waist long tops this summer. It hides bunches of ugly.

What amazes me is the number of teenagers with muffin tops.
And they like wearing the tight tank tops as well.

I sure didn't have any stomach flab when I was young.

No, I think its in the foods we eat now, all the chemicals & fats. Most of us were never big when we were in high school.
An I agree, we don't need to dress like teenagers either.

I just think wearing those light colors make you look worse. Buy Prints!

I think too many people don't want to buy bigger sizes and try to squeeze themselves into too small clothes. I think people look thinner when they wear the correct size.

Some of the people I see at the mall, mostly women, look as if they are TRYING to accentuate their spare tire. To me, the tighter a shirt is, the more it draws attention to any 'extra baggage'. But I realize that tight tops are the style now. I lost 25 pounds over the past 6 months but still have that bulging middle. I hate the way it looks too.

I just think people should dress appropriately for their age. I don't think 5 yo kids should be dressed to try to impersonate contest models or porn stars. Nor should a 75 year old try to look 16. If you want to show off the extra pounds that's fine but some people should not wear spandex! Some shouldn't show their backs and bellies. Some shouldn't show legs covered with varicose veins and some shouldn't show off their feet, butts or whatever. But so many are either blind to it and seem to revel in looking bad. And yes, many are just trying to be kids again. HELLLLLOOOOOOOOOO! It is true that you regress after a certain age.

And then some can actually have the extra pounds or something but dress so they still look dang good. Saw a lady at the store the other day who definitely had some extra but was wearing a very nice dress, necklace, had her hair in place nicely (nothing fancy but tasteful), and just a touch of makeup, not troweled on. Someone else commented to her how nice she looked and she was a bit embarrassed about it and said something like "it's an old dress" or something and I commented I totally agreed.

Closthing that actually fits goes a long way to getting rid of the bumps and bulges. And so do spanx!

That's why I always wear shirt style tops....no knits for me that will show off my bulges.

Oh yes, I forgot about those knits, a big no no. A opened shirt over a top always helps too.

One "fashion" trend I never understood, was the minimal look. I've seen women wearing suit jackets and blazers (or what ever they call dress jackets nowadays) so close fitting and tight that when buttoned, it pulled and puckered. In my opinion, it just looked like the person had gained weight and they were still trying to fit in their old cloths.

I see that all the time on our local tv news. The women wear the short blazers buttoned over a little top and they are so tight.
It HAS to be uncomfortable.

I love wearing blazers.....the longer hip-length ones.

I guess they are thigh-length....

I'm short and a little overweight. Note I won't say I'm fat. I find the best casual look for me is dark leggings with a loose , long blouse on top, not tucked in. The blouse covers my big bottom and I don't have to worry about exposing my pot belly and muffin top.

I am afraid that I am guilty of wearing what I call fat shirts to cover that bulge.....I am fluffy all over but carry my weight around the middle. It's hard to find a shirt that will cover that up. I usually wear a tee or tank top and my fat shirt over that.....

Sometimes I see women my age shopping and they look so nice, all made up and outfitted so nicely and I'm in my usual jeans or khaki's and pullovers and it makes me think how sloppy I must look. I live in a very casual area though so I am not the exception by any means...most women dress very casual here.

You don't have to out of shape to wear too-tight clothes. I'm noticing that many TV "Weather Bunnies" have skirts that are a size too small, so that they 'cup' under their bottoms. New fashion?

My weight is constant, but I'm starting to look like a -- thin arms and legs and a fat middle. Can you get rid of 'belly fat' without surgery?

I have muffin top and spare tire..I lost 100 pounds 5 years ago..have gained about 10 pounds back. BUT I have the above mentioned plus bat wings and a turkey gobbler. I don't want surgery and exersise doesn't seem to work. What to do?

Jasdip, when I worked in a clothing store my 'uniform' was always a skirt or slacks and a blazer, usually with a T shirt or cowl neck sweater. Classy and confortable.

My gripe now, is I wear plus size and all of the tops have HUGE necklines. They always work themselves off-center.

I know what you mean about the tops Dotmom.
I see that all the time, and even now, extra-large tops have the larger neck. If they don't shift at the center, they gape at the back. Stupid.

I meant to say that I resemble a *spider* -- all middle, with thin arms and legs.

A lot of times it isn't the shirt; it's the pants that are to tight at the waist. That's my trouble; if I buy pants that fit in the leg, they are to tight in the waist because I'm all belly. :(

Donna - congrats on the 100 lbs! How did you do that? I'm having trouble losing "only" 20 lbs!!

I think many times the problem occurs because sizes are so inconsistent. I have pants which range from a size 9 to a size 12, and they all fit me fine. I have cardigans from size small to size large, and they all fit as well. If you buy something by size, without trying it on, you really run the risk of it not fitting. I've given up on mail order clothing for that reason, each company seems to have different size dimensions and you never know if the clothes will fit until you get them. Most of them do have size guides, but I've found them to be incorrect quite often.
Maybe the people who wear clothes that are too tight didn't feel like hassling with returning them, and are planning to lose weight instead. :o)

Juellie1962, I called mine a grief diet..Hubby passed away and I had no appetite. I did eat three meals a day but no sweets. Morning was cereal or yogurt, lunch was a small frozen dinner and dinner was cottage cheese,applesauce and a small can of tuna. It was the same thing every day. I had the three yorkies to walk several times a day and house to take care of..other than that I didn't do much. I lost the weight in 9 or 10 months. That is why I have all the skin hanging like it is. :(

well I'm sorry to hear that your diet included grief. But I certainly understand. If I lost my dh, my best friend, I doubt I'd have an appetitie either. I can't imagine losing 100 lbs. The only time I can lose weight is if I'm smoking. I've quite twice now and each time I gain back about 15 lbs. HATE it. But hate the cost, smell and health effects of smoking even more.

Tight clothing only makes you look fatter. I learned years ago to keep my clothes loose and comfortable, not shabby or sloppy but carefully planned. And everyone knows light colors on top with dark on the bottom is the most slimming look.

Eat less, exercise more, and buy clothing that fits.

can you say..."I HAVE NO PRIDE IN HOW I LOOK"...my sister works for Walmart....she had never seen the "People of Walmart.com" website so I showed her last week...she was more then appalled about how people dress to go out in public...i've seen so much on the plane nothing surprises me anymore...

I know I'm fat and until last week...I didn't own anything but Mom jeans...my new ones sit a bit lower then my natural waist but their big and certainly don't give me the muffin top!!

I don't think people look or care anymore. We live in a very strong horse community here so most of the ladies I see are dressed in riding clothes. But that muffin top is so easy to hide if you just dress for your age and size!
