Thank you for all those links, organic smallhome! I looked at three of them myself (on the Williamsburg and Garnet Hill sites), so our thought process are tracking :)

I like the colour on the walls, and dread getting in the painter again, but think it's a bit silly to let that dictate the colour scheme of the whole room all by itself. The painting would look good in the room, I think, though.

I will take some pictures of the room today if the light improves (very cloudy and rainy, thank God). I'm thinking I should break out of my toile prison and go somewhere else. I don't want to put a bedskirt on the bed since the sides of the bed are nicely finished and it's the only bed in the house that doesn't have a dust skirt. Perhaps the lady in the shop will let me take a photo of the painting.

Sorry about your sick pup.... our old Max is 17 and was recently diagnosed with terminal, anal sac carcinoma. He is having great difficulty getting around but is not in pain, thanks to daily medication. We're going day by day here.

I don't think a picture has to match a room. Unless you have a very modern room and/or modern picture. You have a more tradional room. I would love to see a picture of your room.

I finally got around to taking photos and hope I am not posting too many. I tried an old PB down comforter on the bed that is solid blue on one side and small check on the other, and I just don't like it! I am thinking blue and white now but have been through every bedding site from Schweitzer and Sferra Bros. to Target, and nothing looks good to me. :(

Everything is so beautiful in that room. IMO, when you have so many nice features in a room like that, it's almost overkill to try and make a statement with the bedding.

I could see a lovely, white matelasse on the bed. Then you could have fun looking for a sham or other pillow arrangement to pick up some color and you could keep the paint, art and chair cushion.

I did try a white cover on the bed but it was so stark... and the solid blue colour was drab, also. I am looking for a nice mirror to replace that big print. The esthetic is not really "country," or "traditional." I guess I am confused about what it is! I don't normally like artwork with people in it, especially children (although I love the real things!), as it is usually too cute. This has a strong quality to it that I would like to bring out in the room. I'm planning to get another floor lamp, perhaps a balluster type in distressed white or blue, and a blue cushion on that rush seat. Since the bed covers will be a huge part of the scheme overall I was hoping to find something wonderful. I would also purchase fabric and have a coverlet made.

Parma, I hope you check back to read this idea: White coverlets on the bed, bigger blue and white check dust skirt (despite the fact that I said I did not want one, lol, smaller blue check sham, same blue check curtain panels at window. Reframe picture and put it where the large print is now.

Just had another thought and added this pic. Bosporus is a nice toile that would add to the look you're going for with the painting (which I love by the way). I think it would tone down the country aspect and give the room a great look.

LOL, we were cross posting. I like both the pics you just showed. The second is more contemporary and unless you were going to paint the room a dark color, I don't think you'd get the same feeling in your space.

That Design Diva would be perfect in a navy or indigo! I have blue and white toile in the next bedroom, and was thinking I might not use it in this bedroom. I don't have a stitch of floral fabric in my entire house, either. For some reason I am strongly drawn to checks and stripes or toile, although one bedroom does have an ikat fabric in a grass green and bamboo colour combination.

Pierre Deux always has nice checks and stipes. They can get a little expensive.

They occasionally go on sale, though. I've used them in several rooms, although not in enormous amounts such as upholstery, more for pillows and trim. I like the Langais very much, and had bookmarked that.... what do you think? The Houdon fabric I love, but both blues are the wrong colour.

What about a white matelasse coverlet with a duvet in a print at the foot and a check bedskirt? There was a peacock alley twin matelasse up on ebay recently that looked nice. And maybe a layer of shams in the matelasse and print and/or check?

Another thought is a wide silk stripe in muted colors of the colors you need to match.

You have a beautiful room. I still remember your yellow and green master bedroom that you posted a while back. I loved it so much that I'm pushing the color scheme of my master from dark blues/reds to blues/yellow/greens.

Jynxed, thank you for that nice compliment! Green is my absolute favorite colour and I could be finished with this room in a red hot minute if I were going in that direction. However, I so like the painting and would like to do the colour scheme around it.

I am now thinking either a reverse toile (blue with white) as organic suggested, or white with something at the bottom of the bed and a sham in a pretty print, reverse toile, etc. The colours of blue in this oil painting range from navy to a light blue, and of course none of them happens to be a colour that is in vogue now.

Thank you for these suggestions, and if anyone sees dressed bed in these colours or a fabric or bedding that looks like it would be suitable, PLEASE post it, and thanks!

The Ralph Lauren Putney might be great paired with a white bedcover, with the comforter folded and laid across the foot of the bed. I am tired of dealing with duvet covers!

Of course, not being able to see it in person is a problem but I have put this together to see if the blues would work, and I think they would. The comforter is piped in white, and this would mean I would not have to do anything at the window :)

I'm out the door but I'll be at Macy's today. Ralph has some nice blues. Would you be able to get someone to redo a full/queen into a single?

I am going to get the bedding and try it! There is a twin comforter available on that site and it is well under budget, which will leave me more for the framing.

The signature on the painting is unreadable (of course!) and I have no idea who the artist is. I bought this in a small shop in our small central GA town and the woman who owns the store said it was an artist who comes in sometimes and sells his paintings to her, but that he hadn't been in a long time. This one has been there for a few years, and I have been looking at it about that long. Every time I pass the shop I asked if it was still there, and the lady always said it was waiting for me to buy it. When I started inventing reasons to drive by there I decided I would buy it for my birthday.

I just bought the Ralph Lauren twin comforter, a white twill sham (with the lighter blue twill tape around the perimeter), and a stripe flat sheet. I have inquired about a light blue paisley pillowcase (doesn't say if these are seconds) and I am looking for white matelasse... if any of you ladies knows where to find a good one. I'd like a really nice quality one if anyone has experience with a certain brand or retailer.

Organic, I just visited the cuddledown site and I really, really like the white pique coverlet... it reminds me of our summer bedcovers when I was young. I am thinking of getting a pique AND a matelasse cover for the bed for different seasons. I think I will wait until the Ralph Lauren bedding comes; Peacock Alley used to have pique covers piped in beautiful colours, and I would love to match one of the blues if possible. This is fun!

I think the combination of the pique and the matelasse would be beautiful--adding some interesting texture to the room. Why can't I ever think of something like that? Clearly, I need to develop my lateral thinking skills. :)

Above the bed: I have tried a variety of things in different sizes over the bed, and anything small leaves loads of space on either side of the bed, but anything even close to the width of the headboard looked "stacked." Packed away in our basement I have some pretty Bing & Grondahl Christmas plates in shades of blue that I may try to hang in the wall space above the bed, horizontally under the shelf. Not with a hanger, but each individual plate hanging separately. Good idea? Ridiculous? Here is a sample of them on ebay... where the colours look just about right:

I think it would be okay, but you already have plates on the shelf above, right? I like the way the blue of the plates would "pop" against the wall color, though.

What about hanging a small colorful quilt, on a white rod just below the shelf?

Oh yes--the Porsgrund are beautiful. I love the muted colors--enough color to blend beautifully with the bedding and wall color, but not at all harsh.

I reread your post, organic, and I actually meant that I am thinking of the two covers, pique and matelasse, for different seasons. I can only find the pique now tipped in white, but there is a workroom in our town that could put a blue border on the scalloped edges---for a price, of course, but I think those details really make a room.

I just wanted to say how much I LOVE that painting! I normally don't like pics with people in them but this is adorable.

That is a beautiful coverlet, jynxed, the pattern is unusual.... it almost looks like a quilt in the closeup photo and is just what I am looking for.

I appreciate your saying that about the painting, denali. Usually I am very confident when it comes to art, but this is so far afield for me I hesitated before buying it. Now I am so glad I did!

Quick update and many, many thanks to everyone who offered ideas and suggestions:

All bedding ordered on ebay, and all received. I ordered the RL comforter, top sheet, pillowcases and sham in the discontinued Putney pattern. The Sferra Bros. matelasse coverlet is also from ebay, another jynx find :)

After spending hours in the two best Atlanta fabric houses (Lewis and Sheron and Forsyth Fabrics), I went to Lenox with my daughter and found the perfect---and I mean PERFECT---curtains at (of all places!) Pottery Barn Kids. We were there looking for a present for my nephew! $80 per panel for 96" length, lined curtains that can be used with drapery pins or directly on the pole. (I stuck them up on a rod I had around just to see what they'd look like.)

At Ballard Designs Backroom I found a large mirror with useful hooks on both sides (this will have to be hung by our handyman) and a tall corner shelf. Both had minor scratches and were about 1/2 off.

I brought up from the summer kitchen downstairs a table my mother had given me years ago, made of blue and white pottery shards, and brought up an extra Parsons chair to replace the kitchen French Country kitchen chair. I found the tan windowpane slipcover at Ballards, also.

Two wall-mounted, swing-arm lamps have been ordered in antique brass for either side of the bed, and I am still looking for a candle lantern in dull brass to go on the right side of the armoire (to replace the clock) and another painting or print for the wall that joins that corner at right angles. Also looking for blue/white porcelain finials in a round ball shape for the wall lamps, and plan to unearth my Christmas plates and hang them this weekend!

And yet another update: I finally found and purchased the graphic art I was looking for on etsy. These canvasses are 10"x 10" and I think they might go to the right of the armoire instead of a lantern. It pays to be flexible!

I would go with neutral bedding that way you don't take away from all the neat things that appear to be in the room. I found some great pricing on luxury bedding at a store called Elegant Linens. Room looks fabulous and great deal on the window treatments. Love the different fabrics and blue and gold is one of my favorite combos.

Love the blue and white. If you ever want a second set for your room for an occasional change, you might try just going with white on white on the bedding. Then you will be able to keep using your other pillow accents in the blue and white. With the furniture you have, this room really looks like a Âbed and breakfast" retreat for your guests. It also interesting to note the room in the picture has gold walls and the bedding is shown in a sleigh bed. Good luck!

Parma, I have just finished decorating that room for Christmas and it does look mahvellous, if I do say so myself, lol! I will try to post a picture of everything in place. I have a 3-ft tree with delft and plain blue ornaments. What timing to find this thread; I never did find my porsgrund christmas plates and finally bought replacements on ebay.... they arrived today and I'm going to put them in a horizontal line of six plates above the headboard.
