Does anyone watch 'The Office'?

I am jumping in the bandwagon this season because James Spader is joining the cast.....

So -- what do I need to know, in order to have a clue about what's going on?

What kind of "humor" is it? I'm not too much a fan of "crude" humor.... but not intolerant either.

Thanks for any insights you seasoned fans can share!

I love The Office and also happy that James Spader is joining the cast. I will however miss Steve who in my opinion made the show. I never found it to be crude, but rather on the quirky side. I would suggest you watch some reruns which air everyday on TBS. That will at least give you a taste of what the dynamics are in the office. I will say that some episodes are hit or miss, but that is true with most shows.

It's more "uncomfortable" humor, or cringeworthy. Much of the humor is definitely not politically correct! They make fun of EVERYONE.

I used to think James Spader was so hot, and now he looks old-I guess just like the rest of us, lol. But I wasn't prepared for how bad he looks. That's just my opinion.

Dena, I remember when my DH was laid off. Even though he hated the job he was laid off from, it was very difficult for both of us, anyway. I hope your DH ends up with a better job, and things go well for you. I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. BTW, my DH found a job he liked much better, but paid a fraction of what he was making before. In the end, the happiness in the job is much more important than the money. I forgot about Libby being in the hospital with Hurley. I'm sure this is all leading up to a big season finale cliffhanger, but what can they do to top what they've done so far? I didn't pay any attention to that clue thing. It's a gimmick for the local news station and their sweeps. I don't watch that channel much any more for news since they've gotten a lot more trashy than they used to, and I like Kristine Kahanek's (sp?) weather reports the best. Sally

AB does have a culinary degree. From Wiki: "Brown received a degree in drama from the University of Georgia. I'm an anglophile, so I am interested. I'll be happy seeing the TV news AFTER the event. (Much nicer than having to arrive at the Abbey at 8 a.m. for an 11 a.m. service; seriously, that's in the schedule.) I'm interested to see that the Middleton family has taken over The Goring Hotel. The bride will be sleeping there tonight. DH, DS and I stayed there before a Baltic cruise a LONG time ago. DS was intrigued with the very elaborate bathrooms, and his little room under the eaves overlooked the hotel's large private garden. The palace is just 'round the corner. One of the best trips we ever took was driving around the counties outside of London, staying in self-catering places. I've loved England since touring when I was 14.

This looks like my MIL's house, except that she has three times the amount stuff and multiple themes. Ever wondered where your blue geese from the 1980's ended up after you donated them to Goodwill? They went to my MIL's house. Same with your Beany Babies. I amuse myself when there by counting the number of items on each horizontal surface. Generally each and every tabletop - and there are many - have about 16 items on them. Reading the book by David Tolin, "Buried In Treasures," helped me accept that I wasn't going to change her. But I still almost start to cry when I look at all the money spent trying to shop her way out of loneliness. And the thought of the job we have ahead of us when she dies . . .

I've watched a few reruns. Not sure I really get it yet. I can watch it though so perhaps when I know more of the characters it'll be more entertaining.

I have trouble getting into that show myself. The main writer on the show went to college with my daughter. She has a fabulous career going.

Loved the Office. Not sure that it will survive without "Michael Scott". I enjoy the cast, but Steve Carell was the funniest past of that show!

I agree sleeperblues...back in the day oh my James Spader!! But the pics I've seen of him now. He still does the look with his eyes, but age has caught up with him.

My DD and I were commenting on how much James Spader reminds us of William Shatner now. All those years together on Boston Legal perhaps??

Kelly,Ryan and Jim are my favorite characters on The Office.

Thanks for the replies.....

I watched last night, and tried as I may, I failed to see any humor.....

My son who watched with me, and has seen a few episodes before, claims that this was probably a "transition" show, introducing characters.... I didn't even know what kind of company this office is in (my son told me "paper sales").

I will give this another try (or two) since it seems to be quite popular.
