Five days for a throat culture??

I had to get a throat culture taken this afternoon on the way to work. The nurse asked me to drop it off at the lab in order to expedite things because they don't do them at the doctor's office. The first lab I went to was closed. The second one accepted the specimen, but when I asked when I'd have the results, she said five days.

Five days? What has your experience been? It's been years for me, but I seem to remember my kids' throat cultures taking hours, not days. Maybe one day max. In five days I would hope to be cured, not waiting for results!

I don't think I have strep, BTW. I'm guessing the problem is more likely a yeast infection from my many weeks on antibiotics recently. I guess I'll go look natural treatments for thrush, although I don't see anything white on my throat. Just lots of itchy red dots.
