Neither. With only 2 of us, I don't buy in jumbo boxes and I don't buy frozen meats, fruits or produce.
No reason to buy there.

Don't have a BJs but I shop regularly at Costo even though there are only two of us. We buy lots of produce, fish, some meat and poultry, some prepared meals and some household items as well as a few health and beauty aids. I buy some packaged snacks at times like crackers or chips and also wholy quacamole. We also buy gas there and have bought a few sets of tires for our cars. Sometimes we buy soda, beer and/or wine. I've never been in a BJs or Sam's but I love Costco.

I go to BJs because it is closer to me. I only buy things like paper towels and TP and bags of coffee, as well as some cleaning products. I can't use perishable things in huge quantities and I don;t have storage space either.

I save enough on coffee (Starbucks French roast) to offset the membership cost, but in general I think you do just as well when things are on sale at the grocery store. Oh -- I save a lot on greeting cards.

We are only 3 but for many years only two of us and Costco has been a favorite for many years. Our Executive Card is always paid for by the "pay back" we get at the end of the year from American Express. Their return policy CANNOT be bested anywhere on anything. The meats (I am nearly a vegetarian, so IF I eat meat, it must be really good...and Costco is always super+) Our Costco here in Oregon buys Eggs from a "Humanely" grown egg producer, and carries organic chicken. Also important to me. Being somewhat disabled, I do not 'shop around', altho Freddies (Meyer/Kroger) is my other place to shop and our "employee owned" Winco is another. I have never been disappointed in a purchase from Costco....and they take "anything" back.

The return policy on Costco's electronics is fantastic. We have not had to use it, but a friend has and can't say enough about it. I like their toilet paper better than Northern, which was my favorite. They have fresh meat that is very good. I love their chocolate chip cookies and their berry drinks/smoothies at the lunch counteer. I run both Costco and Sam's (I know you said you aren't a fan of Sam's) memberships for the gas. Both are almost always cheaper no matter where we are, and both are not always in the same place, so with the motor home, it is worth it to us. I don't have a BJ's membership, mostly because a friend has that one. We let each other know when we are going, and tag along, sometimes going to both in the same trip. BJ's has a fresh deli dept. that Costco does not. I find most of the products are comparable in price between both places. There are a few things that one carries that the other doesn't, but I don't find a lot that way. I absolutely love the American Express card from Costco with my picture on it for ID.

I don't pay a membership for either one. Dh has the Costco thru work, and have a BJ's that pays 2% back on all purchases. Berween what I buy plus what I buy for the PTA I recoup anything I pay out and then some!

I am on my own. Still use the SAMS card from my ex. As long as they let me in on it, I will use it.

I buy cheese, milk, fresh fruit and veggies there.

No costco, no BJ's here.

Costco is GREAT for our grandson's Christmas and birthday presents. They really have good prices, and we especially love their kids books available in September and October. After that they run out of things.

There was a poll recently and the #1 favourite product of Costco is their toilet paper. I have to agree.

I love the price of their kitty litter, and buy the 600 pack coffee filters for a little over $3.

Sam's in Ontario closed, and hubby and I liked it better than Costco. But Costco is still good. I don't buy a lot of their meat, I think I only bought their ribs once, but they were good. A lot of people go for their meat.

If you like rotisserie chickens, theirs are huge.

I love Costco, was just there today. There are usually just two or three of us in the house here. Paper products, produce, their lobster bisque, wine, toys, children's clothes, contacts, glasses. We got our carpet for the bedrooms through them, great process. Gas is always lower. Have the Amex through them, cash back from Costco and Amex every year, love it!

BJ's... just because I like the two letters *squeeak* JUST KIDDING! lol BJ's is the closest!

Don't have a BJs (*snort* *snicker* *chortle*) near us; don't like Sam's and the closest Costco is 2 hours away. We have a Costco membership and try to make it there every couple of months.

There are seasonal items that may also be regional so I'll refrain from commenting on them but there are some great products to be had. Christmas goodies are starting to make it out and they have some fantastic treats for holiday parties.

Their meats are good; high quality beef. Veggies are pretty good but limited selection. I can get 24 ounces of mushrooms for $3.49. 16 ounces at Kroger or WalMart (shudder) runs $3.29. There are some dry goods that I buy (Goldfish, Kashi GoLean cereal, dishwasher detergent, trash bags, various cleaning supplies, bottled water) where I can get two to three times the quantity for less than the normal retail stores.

I'm fortunate that I have the space to store things. I keep a fairly well organized closet for my bulk items and rotate stock frequently.

Their return policy is great. I bought a pair of sandals, wore them once and didn't like them. No questions asked; money back right there. Same with a book I bought. Turned out we had already ordered a signed copy. Brought it back with no hassle. I'd recommend Costco in a heartbeat.

Oh that's just great dees! I pound out a pretty much worthless, uninformative and at best mildly amusing post and you follow it with something that actually has value and might be useful to the OP. Just great... just flippin' great.

Belong to both, mostly because BJs is only 10 minutes away. But I much prefer Costco. It is 30 minutes away. If Costco, was closer to us, I would only choose to belong to Costco. I like their brands better as well as their "sale" items.

Costco is fabulous.

BJ's is five minutes away and husband gets gas there but we don't have a membership..just the three month guest pass. I don't like the store or Sam's club. My kids both go to Costco's and love it. In fact my mother's day and b-day gifts from son are always from there, mostly plants of some kind. It's just the two of us so we don't belong. It's about 20 minutes from here. I save couponing at Giant and Wegman's.

Costco for me..shopped at BJ's some years back and just didn't care for the whole expeience.
Bust when Costco opened up a year or two later in the same area I tried it and liked it.. Bj's is mostly self checkout now too I heard. Not a fan.

Forgot to add Costco meats are fresh...not frozen .
Also their oatmeal raisin cookies and their fresh baked specialty breads are fantastic too.

We joined Costco on Maui. At the time it was one of the only places you could buy choice beef. (Safeway and other chains sold 'select'.) Now all the groceries sell choice, and Costco has added prime.

Our town turned down Costco's bid to build at our western border. (Hoity-Toity-Dumb.) So...They built on the eastern border of the town west of us. Now that town reaps the tax benefits while ours still loses custom to Costco.

We probably shop the local Costco ten times a year, mainly for paper goods, garbage bags, liquor, wine, vitamins, cereal, other 'dry goods'. I may buy dairy and some steaks -- but those are not a priority. We like the La Brea breads and the muffins/danish -- bulk items we can freeze.

We've bought electronics, towels and household items at the Maui Costco. At home we buy any major appliances or electronics from Abt.

I've never seen a BJ's, but I didn't like the one trip I made to Sam's Club. (I avoid Walmart like the plague.)

I think we area getting a Cosco in either Grand Forks or Fargo but that is still about 4 hours. We do have Sam's in Bismark, but don't go their much. Our nearest one is Regina Canada, but cannot bring meat back. Have been there several years ago.

Never been to a BJs never had one around where I lived. Belong to both Sams and Costco. We go to Costco more often. There are only 2 of us but we always come out of there with a load of stuff. I agree the electronics warranty is awesome. Even if the price of the item is a little higher than elsewhere that costo add on makes it worth it.
I love to buy fruit and produce it is always very fresh. I also love their pre packaged sliced deli meats no waiting in line for them to slice it up for you.
We used to buy most of our books there before we went digital they have good prices on books.
We bought our big Plasma tv there for the best price I found anywhere.
Their eye wear dept is also great very good prices.
And anytime we are planning an event or party that is our go to place for everything.
We always leave with one of their wonderful rotisserie chickens for dinner too. Now that they started making the individually prepared meals it is very much a place for individuals to shop. Great meals too. We always pick up a couple of their shrimp meals.
Costco is one of the few stores my husband actually ask if we can go to.
