Do You Watch A Lot of Television?

Do you watch a lot of television? It seems that a lot of you do. It is a rare day when I have my television on in the daytime. I go to bed in the evening and maybe watch 4 hours or less of it. Most shows I just don't care for. I do like the British shows but can't get them anymore. We never rent movies either. How about you, do you watch a lot?

I watch very little, and none during day unless there is a big event, or something in the area I use to live in CA. Don't watch any reality or soap shows, and only 2-3 eventing shows, but not every night. Waste of my time. . Do watch food network Sun night, and some programs on TLC and do like our public broadcasting station. I have too much to do with the hobbies and church job, and love to read.

When I am home during the day my tv is usually on. It is more for background noise as I hate quiet. I suffer from tinnitus, so the background noise helps with that. I watch tv from 7-10pm. I am usually doing some type of needlework while watching.

If Indiana is right in the heart of the Midwest, then I must be living on the west coast. Better start learning the language. "Gag me with a spoon"? And why go crazy because someone uses more salt that you want? Don't you think you could, let's see. hmmm, maybe use less?? Recipes are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. Recipes will often vary, even when followed to the letter depending on a number of variables. I seldom follow a recipe to the letter since I might not happen to have the free range grapes, cage free milk or organic Vanilla Wafers that Marco Pierre White's recipe might call for. I often will add spice I like and tone down or eliminate what I don't like. Amish/Mennonite, etc cooking has a lot of crossover with what some people term "Midwest" cooking. If you consider Indiana "midwest" then I exempt this from consideration. However the midwest of the United States are generally or at least were, big farming areas and Amish/Mennonite, etc were also big farmers. Meat, potatoes, bread, coffee, milk, dessert was your typical farm fare. The midwest didn't use much in the way of rice however certain areas, including the upper midwest would have wild rice available and that could be included in the later menus. Native Americans of course used wild rice much more heavily than many others until others found out how great it is. Actually you'll find a lot of crossover in German, even Russian and certain other ethnic types of foods when they're living in a colder climate and doing a lot of hard work, but then again considering the number of Scandinavians. Germans, etc who populated the area, it shouldn't be a surprise. But the food changed to adapt to what's around. You won't go to Norway, Sweden, Germany, Russia, etc and find the same things. Just as "cajun" or "creole" won't be found in France, and probably not much in the French areas of Canada. As Annie said, hearty meals were needed for the heavy workload on a typical farm. You'd rise early and work late and burn a lot of calories. Actually what many people term "comfort foods" is quite common among both the A/M/etc and midwest farmers. You won't find finger sandwiches, consumme or sushi on these menus. You will find hearty soup, stew, roast, meatloaf, pasta and much much more. You'll also find a lot of pies, cakes, cookies and rolls. You'll find great breads, rolls, etc. Around here, mac & cheese is essentially baby food. A blue box and a package of Corn King hotdogs fed many a toddler by a new mother. Never could stomach mac & cheese. No meat, why bother. Watching Cookin' Cheap is different. Two gay guys doing their "cooking" and then dressing in drag to show a gadget of some sort. A pickle slicer, nut cracker or whatever. The "Cook Sisters". Initially it was to show people you could cook cheap. They'd figure out the cost of something and figure per portion. Although if they had a leftover from something before, they didn't include it in the price and would come out with 58¢ per person "meals". One thought he knew how to cook and the other admitted he knew nothing but would try anything. They both fancied themselves far better standup comedians that I would. Watch it sometime, it's, well, different. I wouldn't say it's funny very often, but entertaining usually. Actually hotdish for the food, (and go ahead and debate "food" if you're a Miracle Whip snob) and "hot dish" describes the ladies cooking or the temperature of the plate. Scalloped potatoes and ham is a type of hotdish. Marilyn's Party Potatoes, sometimes called "funeral potatoes" is a hotdish, etc. People stick out their tongues and stick their noses in the air over foods. Yes, some will be a can of cream soup with a can of something and a package of onion soup mix. But then again, people buy "blue box", TV dinners and produce from Walmart for cryin out loud! LOL Contrary to what a couple of you believe, not one of the terms hotdishes, A/M/etc or midwest cooking mean all from a can or a pouch. It can and often is made from scratch. The shortcuts are more publicized since it's a timesaver and many people who hit the net want to save time. I would defy most anyone to have tasted and claim they didn't like the scalloped potatoes and ham that was served at my aunt's funeral, or for that matter the roast beef and mashed potatoes served at my cousin's funeral or any of my mother's holiday meals, all made from scratch. I'll take that any day over foo-foo food! Or for that matter the Tex-Mex you get at Taco Bell, or the seafood from Long John Silver, or should I continue... Back to topic, a couple other shows I enjoyed watching included the Galloping drunk, er, Gourmet though never really learned much from his shows. When Andrew Zimmern was a local cook he was interesting to see on the local channels before he decided to concentrate on bugs and exotic roadkill.

Yes. We have 2 TVs but they are back to back, LR and kitchen, so we have to watch the same show if we are together or in different rooms. The audio demands it as we have an open floor plan. It's OK if one of us isn't interested in the show, he works sudoku puzzles or reads or I read on my iPad. If I'm cooking, I get to control the show but I also control it in the LR. We DVR almost everything so we never watch commercials. We like most of the same shows fortunately.

You can't put the TV on the wall to the right because all you'll see is reflection of the light coming in through the windows behind the couch. Yes, light blocking drapwes would solve that, but all the time as you watch TV? No. Put it to the left of the fireplace, wall-mounted on a swing arm so that it can be angled slightly, if needed (if you put it to the right of the FP, you'll still have the reflection problem)..

I try not to! Most of what is on is not entertainment in my opinion. usually don't turn it on until I'm ready to fall asleep!

I used to never watch t.v., but since I'm retired now, I find I'm watching it more. I rarely watch a complete show, but there's a few shows I watch clear to the end.

I mute all commercials, so that means just because the t.v. is on, doesn't mean I'm watching it. For each 30 minute t.v. show, there is 10 minutes of commercial time.

The tv is on pretty much all the time we are here and up. I sit and eat lunch and watch some but not much during the day. At night yes we have several shows we follow. We tend to like the same shows so that's good. TV and reading or being online that's about it for entertainment these days. I very very rarely turn on the tv in the bedroom, unless I am sick in bed.
We have a tv in the RV too but only get the Hd channels over the air through the antenna, mostly so we can watch the news and weather.

I enjoy watching a good show, everyone has their own form of entertainment.

Not very much....I watch the local and national news and a few cooking shows.
And the Yankees baseball games televised in our area.
And Survivor but not sure how much longer I will be able to stand that show.
We rarely have the TV on during the day.

I watch about 12 shows per week during the fall/winter when the first run dramas are airing. However, I record them and fast-forward through the commercials and credits, so I spend about 8 actual hours watching, mostly on the weekend. I rarely have time on week nights. We almost never go to the movie theater or live performances, so our entertainment is recorded television, movie rentals or reading.

Hubby does, but I don't. I'm not a tv watcher and will only go take a peak if it something important happening in our country. I can check the news on my computer if the tv is not on. Same with checking the weather. I never turn the tv on. I'm always busy crafting.

I don't watch a lot, at least by most standards. For years I had no TV reception, and I got out of the TV habit. Now I get a bunch of channels through a tower antenna, but I'm still mostly out of the habit.

On a typical day I'll watch (or listen to) about half of The Price is Right while I unload the dishwasher and make lunch, etc., in the kitchen. The kitchen set sometimes comes back on at 6:30 for the evening news, an by 7:30 I'm ready to lie down on the living room sofa to rest my back while I watch Jeopardy.

Usually I turn the TV off after that, and maybe 3x a week I'll turn it back on later to watch an episode of whatever I'm addicted to at the time. (Right now it's Big Love--I just finished Season 3.) But last week I re-hooked myself on The Voice, so Monday and Tuesday I'll be watching that.

I caught two season openers last week--The Blacklist and Law & Order SVU--but chances are I'll forget to watch on any kind of regular basis. I love watching commercial-free shows via Netflix or DVDs.

Come to think of it, that does sound like rather a lot of TV to me. I must be getting back in the habit. :-)

Well, now that you've asked and caused me to think about it... My television is on a LOT every day, but most of that time I'm not watching other than the news/weather. Mind you, I have local stations only, none of the fancy packages through cable or satellite, so that limits me some, and I find that what passes for programming these days doesn't interest me much. There are a few--very few--programs I watch in the evenings, but more and more I find myself reading or finding other things to do. Even though the tv stays on a great deal. I guess I'm waiting for some important announcement of some kind--LOL

We rarely have the TV on except for major sports events and maybe the odd game or two each week, depending on the season.

Of regular programming, there's nothing on that we find worth watching.

! do the same as alisande, watch the last 20 or 30 minutes of The Price is Right, then listen to the news at noon as I eat lunch. Then turn it on again at 6 and listen to the news while eating dinner and doing up the dishes. No tv in the kitchen, so we are just listening. After the news is over, usually the tv is left on till 11:30 when we go to bed. I (we) always watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune . After that, we don't watch any of today's popular shows, but do watch a fair amount of the RFD channel's offerings and nature oriented shows. Often in the evenings, the tv is on, but tuned to one of the all music channels as we read, do puzzles etc.

I'm in media-overload now.
The new fall season shows, season premieres.
The Tivo is gonna run out of space any day now, I'm sure!
Problem is, when I get home from work, I watch barely 15 minutes before I'm asleep!

My t.v. is never on during the day and only from 8 to 11 in the evening. I do check the lineup and, if there is something of interest to me, I'll dvr it and watch it in the evening. When I relax I go on my laptop, my time sucker as I call it. I have so many relatives and friends that Facebook alone takes up over an hour every day not to mention games. Most nights I'm up till 3 so that's my personal internet time. It kills me to pay two huge cable bills for two houses and we really don't get our money's worth but the channels I like are not in the basic package.

I don't watch it during the day but i have to admit that at night I do probably watch too much. I have my favourite shows. I don't watch sit coms (except Big Bang Theory) or movies. I don't go to movies either - i just don't have the attention span.

So far the only new show that I will watch again is the Black List.

I watch too much. The sets are never on during the day unless there's a national emergency or breaking story. But the sets go on at 8 or 9 and are on thru Letterman, and then I'll watch a show I recorded earlier in the evening. I don't watch comedies except Modern Family but I have a list of shows I won't miss like Amazing Race(Yea, tomorrow it's back), Survivor, Grey's, Scandal, Revenge, Blacklist, Hostages,Good Wife,Criminal Minds , L&O,SVU, Shark Tank, Castle...See?

Watch the news more now , since I stopped getting the paper everyday. I love all the British shows. Love cooking shows and home shows.

Mine is ON but I'm not always watching.

Could never watch tv in bed or go to sleep with the tv on for the night.

I watch LOTS of tv, I am addicted and have been since I was a young child. I watch an LMN or Sundance movie usually every afternoon~~then Dr Phil and Judge Judy, unless they are reruns then I turn it off. I save my ldy to do druing my tv watching~~~I also clean house during commercials;)

Then then the TV is maybe off before dinner or not;) And I will watch it from 8 when my shows start until 11 or 12,
unless I am reading a good book.

When I worked I did not watch as much TV

Our TV is rarely on during the day, It's usually on between 7 and 10 pm.. weekends it might be on earlier if we are bored and want to watch a movie.

I watch way more than my DH does. He probably doesn't watch more than 2 hours of TV a week.

Our breakfast room TV is on for about two hours a day. We watch 30 minutes of morning news and about the same during lunch. We watch national news for 15 minutes in the evening, then some local news.

We have Teatime Matinee around 3 p.m. in the library, watching an hour of something we've recorded or a DVD from our public library. (Lots of British TV series, Masterpiece, etc.)

Today, DH will watch the Bears from noon to...whenever.
Other than Jeopardy and the news, we watch no commercial TV. Once the news is over in the evening, neither set will be on until the next morning unless there is a ballgame or some news crisis. We do read... a lot!

My biggest time-waster is the internet.! No Facebook, etc., just KT and HT and news stories.)

My TVs are on all day. Even if I'm not watching, I like the "company".

I'm never on the computer without having my bedroom tv on at the same time. When the computer is working right and I'm watching Hulu, I will turn the tv off, but that's the only time.

Have considered myself addicted to tv and movies for a long time now. :)

Quite a bit, there's no TV in the office so while I'm on the computer I'm not watching...plus I can usually get up during a show or movie and leave, my husband says I never see the whole thing at once, it doesn't interest me so much that I can't walk away most times...I can catch the rest another time or look it up on the computer. There are shows we watch together like Elementary, Person of Interest, The Mentalist.

If I'm home, TV is on. Usually on Food Network or Investigation Discovery. I DVR some of my favorite Food shows for the whole season and watch them in a marathon, fast forwarding through commercials. Master Chef, Top Chef. Food Truck Race ...
Hubby shakes his head and asks how I can watch cooking shows all day and not be starving all the time! LOL
I DVR crime dramas we both like, Law and Order, Criminal Minds, CSI, NCIS, Longmire ... and we watch one of those together while we eat dinner.

Each morning I turn on the TV to see if the world is still spinning on its axis. So far it is, even though sometimes very wobbely.

On Saturday I check the weekly TV guide, mark the shows I want to watch, and DVR them. I also check TCM hoping to find one of the good old movies that are worth seeing again and DVR it.

Lately I've gotten into the habit of fixing my dinner, taking it into the back bedroom where I have the TV and computer, the recliner, etc. but no bed. Then I watch whatever I have saved for that evening, deleting the commercials. I check out the late news, and then get on the computer. That is it. My current favs are Shark Tank, The Little Couple, Sister Wives, Breaking Amish, all of which are over, or soon will be for the season, and Duck Dynasty. I do like the real mystery cases that are shown, but not the made-for-TV ones. I really hate having to pay for shows which I never watch. Hopefully some of the new shows will be likeable, but so far I haven't found them.

I have the TV on all the time but dont sit down and watch it much. I like The Price is right in the mornings, NCIS (Not LA), The Texas Rangers Baseball games. THEY won their final today and will play some team tomorrow night to see if they go on and maybe make it into the series. I watch the Sat Brit comedies on PBS, and some others. I'm not into the reality shows like housewives etc.

Not much during the summer. Gary will turn it on while he has breakfast (usually 4 4-:30 a.m.) and watches sports center stuff, then maybe half an hour after he gets home from work, before we start in doing stuff.... gardening, working at camp, running around, whatever. I might sit with him during that half hour or might not. Then we turn it on maybe an hour around supper time and a little bit in bed before going to sleep. In winter, we watch quite a lot more because it's cold, there's a lot of snow out, and we can't do our favorite outdoor activities. So, way too much in the winter!
