My heart is fine!

Got my results today...he said my circulation and heart are fine(even with how bad I treat it!His words)...Only thing is the right ventrical is a little enlarged.He said that is the part that pumps blood to the lungs.So now I have to see a lung doctor.But he said it isn't bad ,just wants it checked.Quitting smoking should cure that,he said.He's sending a letter to the by-pass Dr that I'm fine to get the by-pass....but he would prefer they wait til I see the lung Dr.That is on Oct 22....one more step out of the way....

I wouldn't sweat it... primarily because from a prior "Container Soils -- Water Movement and Retention" thread, Al notes: "dust to 3/8 is best, but if you have some 1/2" pieces in there, don't sweat it." A substrate with 1/2" particles will have different properties from one with smaller particles, but only by a small amount. Here's a study quantifying the different properties of substrates of varying pine bark sizes. For larger bark particles, air space is increased a bit at the expense of available water (which makes sense intuitively... bigger chunks will have larger spaces between them). The researchers note that available water (for plant uptake) might be insufficient in a 1/2" substrate without more frequent watering... but that's with 100% 1/2" pine bark. In our 5-1-1 case, the smaller pine bark/peat/perlite matter would fill those large intra 1/2" spaces if the mix is mixed well. Sure, uniform particulate size is more "optimal" still, but at this point (after having screened for nuggets beyond 1/2"), the diminishing returns on effort input vs. results output really begin, in my opinion.

Patricia, My Mother died the same exact way as yours. She had been suffering with a stiff neck for a couple of weeks. On Monday (June 4, 2007) she went to the hospital to get it checked. On Wednesday (6th) we found out she had liver cancer. It had spread to her adrenial glands, lungs and into her neck. On Sunday (10th) she was gone. She too went peacefully in her sleep. I know what you went through, she went really fast. Although this is all still new to me, I too feel your pain. Grieving is not easy for me right now. I smelt saukraut (sp?) the other day and thought it was kind of funny as I was driving down the road. I close my eyes and see her smiling face but yet I can not cry. Her services are this coming week end (17th/18th) and she is being buried on my son's (her grandson's) birthday. He is taking it so hard, but there is nothing I can do. I have talked till I was blue in the face and can not gt my brother to budge. I just hope I have the strength to go through this. With God's help we wil get through this. Doesn't it seem like once a doctor's got you they never let go of you? "Come back and see me XX months (or weeks or whatever)" I hope all your appts. bring good news. I feel like I have lived in the doctors' offices this year. Carpal tunnel surgery for me and then carpal tunnel surgery and PT for my mom (I go with her). Two cataracts for me and a number of follow ups for that. Optician for glasses and optometrist for a contact lens to fix the vision in one eye that isn't working right for me. The contact lens is a godsend. Dermatologist for little skin cancers, with one upcoming Mohs surgery plus innumerable follow up visits. Pre-op trips to the GP before all above surgeries. Two trips to the dentist, no problems thank heavens, just cleaning and recementing a cap. Once the skin doctor is done with me and I have my mammo, I am declaring myself a "no doctor" zone for a good long while. I've had it.

Thanks everyone! I was a little (ok a LOT ) worried about my heart test.The DR seemed surprised that I had no heaart damage,since I've smoked since high school and I'm 54 9
(soon to be 55) now.And I've been overweight almost my whole life.One time I was at normal weight for my height,back in 9th grade to 12th grade.That was when diet pills(speed) were legal.I took diet pills for 3 or 4 years.After I go to the lung DR,I still have to go to a regular DR for aa physical and blood tests..by the time this is over I will have had every part of me checked! LOL! I have to go back to the heart DR in 6 months just for aa checkup.Hate to think of it...he is so busy..my appointment was at 9,I didn't see him til 12:15! Everytime I went to him it took 3 to 4 hours.Then we went to Larry's DR at 4;30,another hour at a DR....he's getting blood tests for his cholesterol and everything.
I haven't been to a DR since I got my hysty about 5 yrs ago,now it seems I'm always at one! LOL!

Oh wow CR, this means you're getting closer to your goal. I can imagine how ready you are to get going on this. I'm very happy your ticker is strong and sound and will be keeping my fingers crossed that your lungs are too. Will you be quitting the cigs before your procedure or have you already? That Chantix sure has helped some people I know get off of them. If you haven't already, I wish you all the luck little buddy.

No fun sitting in doc offices waiting for appts. Hope that's just about coming to an end for you too.

Good news, CR....I didn't realize there were so many different things that had to be done before the procedure, but it sure does make sense....But just think of the end product!
Have you ever thought about getting zapped in the ear for the cigs? It does sound funny, but friends of mine who were chain smokers for years, had this done and haven't had any problems since...They live in Florida, had the "zap" at a clinic and that was it...Sometimes you have to go back for a 2nd treatment but 1 did it for them...I don't know what it's called but it sure worked miracles for them....

When I go to the regular DR,I'm going to ask for help...be it Chantix or whatever he suggests.I'll try to find out more about the ear zapping too...it's not the acupuncture? I heard that helps too...
Normally there isn't this many procedures to go through,the one lady that was at the Bariatric Dr at the same time as me is already done.I have to go through all this because of my age,being overweight so much and my smoking.She is only in her 30s and doesn't smoke,so she went right through.I know it's all my own fault that it's taking so long...dang being a teenager and thinking it was "cool" to smoke....wish I'd never started.Now I have a fight on my hands and it's a fight I brought on myself...but I will WIN!! I just have to set my mind to it.Now after all this if the insurance denies me...I may have to hurt someone...BAD! LOL!

CR, I'm so glad to hear it. I'll keep you in my prayers and hope that insurance company realizes this will help your health (and cost them less) in the long run.

CR if you can quit smoking before surgery, I'm sure after the surgery you want have a problem staying off the "nicotine".

I'm cheering for you and praying too. I'm so excited about it. I had liposuction several years ago and I know how amazing I felt afterwards. It made an amazing difference in my self esteem.
