Do You Have A Favorite Mop?

I recently bought a new O'Cedar microfiber mop and I do like it. I use my wringer bucket to wring it out. I do have a steam mop and the Rubbermaid Reach mop, but they are not very good for my old tile floors and there is a lot of it to mop. Do you have something you use and really like?

I love my Swiffer WetJet, tho the pads and bottles of cleaning liquid are expensive. I've learned to open and re-fill the bottles. It's great on linoleum, tile, laminate, even poly finished wood floors.

Actually ... I'm not sure where mine is ... seldom use it, it appears.

Do you mean dust-mop, or floor-mop (i.e. wash)?

Ya mean my fav Junk Do-Dads besides glass for totems and flowers? LOL I especially like funky style things that are handmade. Must take a pic of one of my latest treasures to show. The day I found a large coffee can full of chandy crystals for only $2. was a memorable day! No one but a dedicated YS/crafter/junker could understand that thrill. Other than that my list IS a mile long. I like anything that could be described as architectural, bling, antique, vintage, concrete, rock, or repurposed. Does that cover pretty much any ol' thing I might find cheap at a yard sale? Or sometimes not so cheap at a thrift or antique shop? I've also recently found a little old table for $2 and a very junky bench for $1.50 for my garden or garden house. They need help and I probably overpaid even at those low prices. My DH just shakes his head when I buy things like this. He thinks they're trash and he may be right. But I like them and know they can be reno'd.

I can't directly help you with your question, but if you do enough work- what about getting set up w/ a local distributor as many also have an aftermarket supplier. A non dealer generally gets a lesser discount, but it works out in the end.

I vaccuum first using a hard floor wand. (We have a central vac.) I do that once a week or more if needed. About once a month or before entertaining, I spray with Bona Hardwood Floor cleaner and mop with a microfiber head. I have not found any other cleaner that works as well. Brian

Do you have a favorite appetizer you would like to share?

I can vouch for Sharon's stuffed mushrooms. They are the best. A few of my favourites. Mushrooms and Pimento in Puff Pastry The Foods and Wines of Spain 1 package puff pastry 1 Tablespoon olive oil 1 Tablespoon minced onion 1 clove garlic minced 2 Tablespoons minced pimiento preferably homemade 1/4 pound mushrooms, chopped fine 1/2 dried red chili crumbled or 1/4 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes Salt and pepper to taste 2 Teaspoons grated parmesan cheese . Heat the oil in a skillet and saute the onion and garlic until onion is wilted. Add the pimiento and cook for a minute, then the mushrooms, chili pepper, salt, and pepper and saute until mushrooms are softened. Remove from the heat and stir in cheese. Roll the puff pastry to 1/8 inch. You can cut Cut into 1 3/4 inch circles and place 1 teaspoon of filling on half of the circles. Moisten the edges with water, cover with the remaining pastry circles, and press with the tines of a fork to seal. I prefer to make them triangle shape,by cutting the pastry into 2 1/2 inches squares, add filling on one half and then folding over corner to form a triangle. (May be prepared ahead and refrigerated) Place on a dampened cookie sheet and bake at 425 F on the upper rack of the oven for 7 to 10 minutes or until golden. ( To cut down on work you could make this appetizer in a larger size and Bake for about 20 minutes.) Then cut into wedges. ---------------------------------------------------------- Blue Cheese Tartlets Source: Williams-Somona 8 ounces tart pastry dough (or frozen puff pastry) 3 ounces spinach or Swiss Chard 1 egg 2/3 cup heavy cream 3/4 cup freshly grated Emmenthaler Cheese 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg Salt and pepper 3 ounces Blue Cheese (Roquefort, Gorgonzola, etc.) 2 tablespoons pine nuts . If using tart pastry, prepare the dough and refrigerator 30 minutes before you are ready to roll it out. If using commercial puff pastry defrost in the refrigerator or at room temperature. Preheat an oven to 425F. Bring a large saucepan filled with water to a boil. Plunge the spinach or Swiss Chard into the boiling water and cook for 30 seconds. Immediately drain in a colander and rinse with cold water to halt the cooking. Drain again, pressing against the greens to force out as much water as possible; set aside. Break the egg into a bowl. Add the cream, Emmenthaler cheese, nutmeg and salt and pepper to taste and beat with a fork until completely blended. Coarsely chop the spinach or chard and add it to the bowl; stir well. On a lightly floured board, roll the dough out as thinly as possible. Sprinkle the Roquefort or other blue cheese evenly over the dough. With a fluted pastry cutter about 1 1/4 inches in diameter, cut out 18 dough rounds. Use the rounds to line 18 individual tartlet pans or wells in tartlet trays or miniature muffin pans. If using the former, arrange the lines pans on a large baking sheet. Fill each lined pan with some of the egg mixture and scatter a few pine nuts on top. Place the tarlets in the oven and bake until the filling sets and the crust is golden, about 15 minutes. Serve Warm. ---------------------------------------------------------- If you are looking for something easy, both of these are really simple and always well received. You can buy the focaccia instead of baking your own. And the mini cocktail toasts are easy to find in most grocery stores. All you need for this is mini toasts, toasted walnut halves and soft goat cheese and a drizzle of good quality olive oil. Focaccia with Warm Goat Cheese 1 focaccia, homemade or purchases 1 roasted red pepper, cut into strips and drizzled with olive oil. 1 recipe homemade Tapanade (or purchase all ready made) Chevre (Goat cheese) Cut the Focaccia into bite size squares Cut the roasted pepper into small strips Warm the Goat Cheese in the microwave to soften. Put a dollop of goat cheese on top of each square of focaccia. On half the focaccia place a few strips of pepper and on the other half place a small spoon of Tapanade.

Jannie, I too have the Swiffer Wet Jet and do refill the bottles, but for as much as I have to mop, it takes too many pads. Oj it is for wet mopping not the dry.

I like the WetJet. I would get the generic pads and refill the bottles. If I didn't have time to refill the bottle I'd just take a spray bottle and spray it then mop.

A lot of people use washcloths, microfiber cloths and such on the WetJet too. I never bothered with it because I don't have a lot of flooring to do. And lately.... well, let's just say the mops are lonely for touch.

I mop every week and I have a lot of tile. I love my Liberman mop. Its the type with the orange mop head. The fabric on the mophead is washable so you can detach it and throw it in the washer. It has a squeezie thing wrings out he mop head but you have to have some strength to do it.

It works great for me and when the mopheads get older, I use them on my porch. I never cared for the Swifter kinds of things - found that it made my floors sticky and it was too expensive to buy the refills.

I have one of those Sweep n mop's that was advertised about a year ago. I found my generic type at the dollar store, but they no longer sell them. It sweeps with those ridges then mops, its just a sponge mop but I like it. Check on ebay (my favorite place to shop)

I don't have a mop, yet alone a favorite one.

I have lots of tile and use a Hoover FloorMate. Keeps even the grout soooo clean!

I don't know if Jan has a favorite mop but I can testify that judging by the appearance of our kitchen floor the one standing beside the refrigerator is not it....LOL,

I use a 4 inch flat bottom broom with soft bristles and put an old towel over it and wet it. I use maybe 4 cloths. I actually took the time to cutup an old terry cloth robe and sewed around the edges to keep it from fraying.
I paid alot for the robe it owes me.

I like the Swiffer WetJet, but the refills and pads are expensive. I also have a Clorox ReadyMop--the pads are cheaper and the bottle is refillable. Not sure which one I like best. I have one in each kitchen so I don't have to carry it up and down steps.

When I was a kid, my mother paid a teenage girl in the neighborhood $1 to hand wash the kitchen floor. I was jealous of the money ($1 was a lot to me) so I begged her to hire me for the job. I got $1 a week allowance for dusting and vacuuming the living room and dining room three times a week. so I could make $2 by also washing the floor.

I've been using my Bee-Mop for years. A replaceable sponge head that locks onto the handle; and a bucket.

I don't buy into the disposable swiffer, disinfecting wipes etc that you use once and toss.

A favorite mop? Don't how to reply. LOL

Gotta agree with Cynic this morning.."And lately.... well, let's just say the mops are lonely for touch."

Can also go with what Patti43 said, "My favorite mop is one somebody else is using in my kitchen!"

I have a steam mop as well...they are WONDERFUL... does a really good job, the floors are squeeky clean, with no residue,no bending and wringing out a mop, or having to have your hands in dirty mop water..I use mine several times a week, I have alot of tile in my home, and it is nice to know the steam disinfects the floors, especially the bathrooms. And you just toss the pads into the washer..

Redcurls, What shark mop do you use? Is it the Shark Steam Mop - S3101 for $79.00? I would love to buy one, but I'm not sure which is is best. I have the same kind of flooring you do and it's a pain to clean with a regular mop.

I actually have two...the one in FL has three or four different mop "heads" (mostly just a plastic frame in different sizes/shapes with a terry cloth cover) and was about that price. The one I have in Maryland only has one head and two covers and was only aout $49 at Lowes. I like them both. I especially like that the floor is almost dry when you finish. Make sure to velcro the edges of the cloth covers together before laundering..don't ask me how I know this.

I went to Big Lots today and they had the mop I like, only it was a cheaper price, so I bought one to put back. There is no way I can mop all the floor I have to mop anymore on my hands and knees. There was a time I did, but no more. Once you have knee replacement surgery there is no padding on that knee and you can not put weight on it. There is no finish left on this old tile and the steam mop is too hard to push, the handle bends. I would love to be able to hire it done, but guess that isn't happening.

marilyn, I do not understand how the mop is too hard to push? mine is a bissell, very light weight, just glides on the tile floor, and most definatly the handle does not bend.. You need to take another look, if you get the right mop for you, they do really work great...

I never met a mop that I liked.
They have handles.
Someone once told me that anything that has a handle on it means "work" in some way.

Think about it! I think it is true.
