My great grandson's 10 birthday cake.

He loves Legos, so he wanted a Legos cake. My DGD made not just the cake but all the little decorations.

Thanks for all the sweet comments! Linda, the sock monkey is one of my favs too, as well as the Easter basket. I did it for my son's girlfriend this past Sept., she collects sock monkeys. By far the hardest one has been my son's life sized Fender Strat guitar cake. That one took some time. Calamity, I love Duff, have you seen Cake Boss with Buddy Valastro? I think I like his work even better than Duff's. Sunnyca, yes it's rolled fondant. I make my own from scratch, as well as the frosting and the cake. I'm terrified of Royal Icing, I am going to have to try that one day :)

Woodie, I'm so happy to see you here again, I miss you! Sol, I'll help for Sam's wedding. My cake baking skills are nothing close to yours but I could mix batter or bring the mojitos or SOMETHING... Thank you, everyone. I was pleased with the way everything turned out and doubly pleased that the fondant bow made it there intact. The hearts inside the cupcakes. OK, I hate to admit that it was actually easy, I'd love to fib and tell you it was all difficult and technical. Bake a sheet cake layer of red velvet cake, cut hearts with a small cookie cutter, it has to be small enough to fit down inside the cupcake. Put a spoonful of batter into the cupcake paper or pan, set the heart into it and fill with batter, making sure the heart is covered with batter. Bake again, check for doneness slightly toward the edge. The only trick is that you have to mark the cupcake so you know which direction to cut or you just have a red glob visible from the side view, LOL. This would work with bunnies for Easter, trees or bells for Christmas, Shamrocks for St. Pat's, whatever strikes you and you have a cookie cutter for. It was actually more difficult to get the Snickers bars not to sink into the bottom of the cupcake, we had to eat a couple of batches before I figured out to freeze the candy before plopping it into the middle of the unbaked cupcake. It was a difficult job, but had to be done. (grin) I did have some dedicated volunteers that helped me with that one..... Annie

Finally caught up with my DGD. The cake purse was a "little smaller than the real purse." Yes, there was a discussion about price when the request was made. She told the customer she had no idea how to price it, since she had never done one like that, but told her it would be about $100.00. Remember, she works at home, therefore doesn't have all the expenses that a shop would have. So when it was finished that is what she charged her, $100.00. She said if she ever did a similar one, it would be more. It was a challenge to her, and she likes a challenge, and it was a learning, fun, experience, I thank you for all the nice comments. I sent her the URL for this site, so she can read them herself. Some of you have said you would like to see some more of her work, which is mostly cupcakes, plus a few other things. Oh it will be interesting to see what she does when she's older. My neice is similar. She loves makeup and hair. She also comes by it naturally because her mom is a hair dresser. She is in 2nd grade right now but last year on the first day of school she had a meltdown because her hair was too curly and she wanted her mom to straighten it and put it in a nice braid. She is definitely the stylish kid. The only good thing is that she is getting very good at styling her own hair and putting her own nail polish on. I can hardly wait until she wants her first tattoo. That will be funny.

Glenda, I hope we don't have an earthquake this time when I couldn't get back with some of the info about the purse.

Tobygirl: Chocolate!

Scissors, she went to Culinary School for a year or so, long years ago, but didn't start the cupcake business until around the first of this year. Like Topsy, it just growed.

Georgysmom, she really does enjoy it. She has a good rapport with her customers, which I think is part of the success she's had.

Scissors, she didn't take any classes or anything; started with small things and progressed from there. She has surprised us with all of it.

Jemdandy, maybe "cakeitect?"

She will be set up at a local festival tomorrow, with just cupcakes. Don't know what kinds she will be taking, but she will be "introducing" her newest one: Apple Pie a la Mode. Have no idea how that can work!
