KT Chirstmas/Holiday Card Exchange

I know it seems a little early to start this, but I want to get it started, before I hit the road for the fall trip.

If you would like to sign up, email me thru my page with your KT name, real name, and snail mail address. If you want me to use a different email address than the one you send your info thru, please include that.

For those who have not participated in the past, or a reminder for the rest of you, you have until the week before Thanksgiving to sign up. I will divide everyone into groups of about ten, depending on how many we have signed up. You are only required to send to those on your list, but if you want to send to everyone/anyone else, please send to your group first. Store bought or hand made, regular size or post cards, your choice. I will do my best to email the list by Thanksgiving, no later than that weekend. I WILL NOT share the names and addresses you send me with anyone NOT on the list, so if you are not signed up, please don't ask me to share.

I am having issues with the screen on my laptop, and will have limited access once we leave for our fall trip, but I will email you, letting you know I have received your sign up email, and post a list here, of those signed up, as often as I can, but don't be surprised if you don't see an email or a list update for a few days at a time. I can connect to a seperate monitor, but won't have access to it on the road if this goes. Will have DH's computer, but will only use it if I have to!

I've had my hands too full with Dad's pnuemonia to get anything done, then with our trip to Washington DC for the funeral service at Arlington Nat'l Cemetary, to get ornament shopping or cards done. Dad is on the mend, and we are safely back home, so I'll be getting started ASAP! I emailed Meredith before we left so she would know I was behind. I don't do much on the actual day, but usually attend one or two Christmas Eve services. Several years ago I cut back substantially on sending cards to a fairly large number, but send to a number of family and friends, including a message to update them on my activities. I've cut back substantially on giving gifts to non-close folks also, and have increased contributions to charities instead. Support for charitable and religious causes, plus political contributions produce some income tax credits and last year they enabled me to reduce my federal tax to zero, and my provincial tax to about $700. Many of my friends are older and considering cutting back on their possessions to prepare for moving from a house to an apt. ... when one is past 80 - who needs more "stuff"? Sometimes have dinner with son or a friend. This year, hauled 7' tree from garage to son's apt (part of his Mom's estate), as his lady friend wanted to be rather festive and they erected it at her house. Son reported that they found a mouse nest or two in it - don't think that they're still there. We had substantial Christmas dinner last Sunday, as daughter was up from AZ and we helped make it, but son's lady did most of the preparation. We exchanged a few presents after the dinner, mostly utilitarian things: clothing, storage containers, candy, etc. and daughter gave me auto club membership for next year (that was what got me a free tow 120 miles from TO when my radiator spring a leak, back in July): she'd bought my original membership for me, about 4 years ago. I'd hinted for a potato peeler with the floating blade (didn't get one) ... and for something else, too ... but I can't remember what, at the moment. I realized later that I should have hinted for a kitchen timer, as well (one purpose of which would be to set when I turn the radio off when a progrqam that I don't like much comes on ... for usually there's one just after it that I like, and I forget to turn the radio back on before it's at least half over). Well, It doesn't look like it's too early! I'm glad to see the intrest.

Jasdip, just cards. If someone wants to do a swap, that's up to someone else to arrange, as I pretty much stick to the card exchange.

Keep the emails coming! I have internet at home for a little while yet.

This sounds like fun! Be prepared, I am NOT handy, so they will be purchased cards.

It seemed that last year pretty much everyone sent cards to the whole list - it was so cool getting a card in the mail every day leading up to Christmas! I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to participating again this year.

I think I sent cards to everyone too loved doing it. I didn't expect one from everyone and loved the ones I did receive!! I think there were over 40 last year!!

I bought lots of the forever stamps in anticipation of the card exchange this year I think they are still 44cents potage goes up in January again I think . I wish they would make a forever Christmas stamp!!
A small price to pay in any event to exchange some happiness!!

Mrsmarv, PLEASE email me if you want in. You posted here, but didn't email me with your address & info. I don't want to count on last year's info transfering improperly, so don't want to just use what I might have, especially with my computer problems.

I am saving all of this on a flash drive while on the road. Whole computer is backed up at home on an external drive. So far the screen is working, as long as I have it in the correct possition, but don't dare let it go to sleep or move the screen!

As much as I love getting all the cards, I think I will pass this year. I am not able to download my card making software on this new computer so I need to buy something new (and figure out how to use it).. plus I have a couple projects that are keeping me busy.

I'm sure I'll regret my decision when all of you are talking about your mailbox full of cards.

BTW - you can buy store bought cards, I just have made mine every year because I enjoy doing it.

This list is pretty far down. If we are still recruiting until Thanksgiving, we should bump it up higher so more people can see and join.

I am excited there are so many people. I was very actvie on this forum a few years ago until I adopted some kids and got very busy. But, I can exhale and garden and talk at the Kitchen Table again.
