2008 Chirstmas Card Exchange Reminder!

If you haven't already signed up for the Christmas Card Exchange, come join us! Email me your kt name, real name, and address. I will break the list down into groups and email the lists to everyone who signs up approx. Thanksgiving weekend. This is who I have so far.

I'm going to skip this year. Dh has been sick so much lately and in and out of the hospital that I'm afraid something might happen and I won't be able to buy or make cards and send them out in a timely manner.

I have enjoyed it so much the past few years. I hope to join in next year.

Late but checkin' in. GO BUCKS Thank you all for the lovely, funny, glittery, eggy, puzzling, yummy, cards this year. I'm speechless. Once again I can't bear to throw any of them away so they'll go into my buffet (egg ON the buffet) with the last two years. Kids are still asking me why I hang a picture of a cat named Pisser on our tree. GO BUCKS I love and cherish each and every one of them. My husband was in michigan this week and that was one of the flights he thought about taking on thursday night. He flies a lot and it just hit close to home. Clarence is not far from where we live. We are a little more out in the country. Big sigh of relief. When the news came on at 10pm they announced at the end of the broadcast that a plane had crashed by the airport, but they didn't know anything yet. By the time the 11pm news came on, it was not until after the weather that their news crews made it to the neighborhood and they announced it was a commercial plane. WIVB broadcast without commercial break until I went to bed at 2am. When my husband called to say he was alright i was so grateful. (wipes tears and sniffles) Fran, Could i have the blanket flower, please? BTW, DS#3 watered my keyboard once, its still a little iffy. We set it in from of the blower on the woodstove for a week. Just FYI those of you sowing in the keys LOL! Thank all of you for the prayers. Families here are esp. close knit and things like this are difficult for anyone. Praying for your FIL, too Nichol. The greed, the one upmanship, the avariciousness, all turn my stomach and have for years." I'm right there with you. I don't buy my dd anything most years. I do the stocking stuffers. She gets everything and more from everyone else. I hate the whole commercialism, greedy greedy greedy, gimme gimme that has taken over the November-December months. Hate it. Often she will get too many toys, and I will just scoop them up before they are put under the tree (I get a lot of stuff from family off the internet, and then I am the one to wrap it) and put it in the closet for the next time. This will be harder as she gets older, but for now it works. She just gets too much stuff. Love the tree. Love the lights. Love the music and being warm inside the house with a fire or baking. I just really don't want to do the holidays. They make me sick to my stomach. Someone mentioned going to a womens shelter with the pre-holiday clean-out stuff. I think we'll do that this year. KKNY, your posts on this are really bugging me. I don't make $100/hour. I worked very hard for my degree and don't have the luxury to go back to school. It is really hard for me to stomach you saying it's hard for you when your ex lives high off the hog when to me, and I'm sure to others on the board, making $100/hour is several times higher than my income. To me, that is high off the hog. It's all a matter of perspective, is it not? And yes, to those who do not have the kids 24/7 like some of us, it is easier to buy bigger gifts and look like a champion. Isn't that often the issue with NCP? I understand that often the more one makes, the more one spends. The quality of life bar is set higher. "...I agree that there is never any need to tell children what you earn. I just dont think it is a good idea to tell them you make minimum wage when you dont." "...I just think if you are going to say how long Dad and I would have to work, then you should be using your current hourly after tax rate..." Ok, I don't get it. Don't tell them what you make, but don't tell them it's minimum wage. If you're explaining the truth, shouldn't you talk about taxes too? If I were to use Sweeby's suggestion, I would probably use $5/hour because it's nice and round and easy to grasp. Going into the issue of savings, bread and electricity is just way too much information. I agree, education usually increases earning potential. Telling kids that college is good for the brain and the wallet is good. But this is not about talking to children about higher education. This is explaining the cause/effect relationship of work vs gifts and the relationship of kids who get a few nice things and kids who live in shelters. It's a basic lesson, not one that they will be recalling the amounts for when you are filling out college applications (but mom, I thought you only made $8/hour!) Gimme a break.

Hold the phone!! I GOT MAIL!! Yipee!!!!! It's from Savvychick (ya know, crafty lady's youngin') I ripped open that box soooo fast I totally destroyed the beautiful wrapping paper she used! (sorry). But da-hannnng, Holy dawg snot and everything else! It's beautiful! It's done in shades of blue glass, some of it's irredescent. And to top it all off, She done put a picture of my fur babies in it. Yep, that's Beans and Taters in that there frame!! I LOVE IT!!!!! BTW: She also sent a bag of Almond M&M's!!!

Daisy_3, As many as like will email me to sign up. Approx. Thanksgiving weekend, I will divide the list into groups, depending on how many sign up as to the size of the group, and email the list with the addresses to only those who have signed up. No one else will receive the addresses!!! You will then send to those in your group. After you have sent to them, if you wish to send to anyone else, you may do so. I will set a dedline to have them sent out by, as any out of the USA will take longer to deliver, and many like to use the cards to decorate with, so would like them early.

I think I will be at the Post Office tomorrow and will try to remember to ask about postage prices for out of country mailings for those in the US mailing out. Sorry, I can't help anyone from other countries with what it will cost you to mail to the states.

Have I forgotten anything? Probably! Ask any questions you need to.

I couldn't "play" last year but want to this time. It's so much fun going to the mailbox and finding cards from my KT friends. I'm not crafty at all so I send store bought cards!

I checked with the Post Office today. From the USA to Canada & Mexico cost is 72 cents. To Europe the cost is 94 cents. For post cards the cost is 27 cents.

If you can find Christmas post cards, you can send those if you like. They are hard to find. If you like to make your cards, they are easy to make. I have done that for a couple of years to save costs and enable me to send more cards. I not only send the KT peeps, but I send almost 70 cards to friends and family, also, so it helps a lot!

I am glad to see the numbers rising. I will probably seperate the list into groups of 10.

You know what? I think I will join this year. I really do enjoy doing the exchange. If Bob does end up going back to the hospital ( I hope not ) I can address cards from there. Add me to the list. I'll e-mail you my address Tami. Thank you for taking on the responsibility of doing this.

I'm glad you changed your mind, Linda. Even if Bob does end up back in the hospital (here's praying he doesn't!), think of what a boost it will be for both of you when you start receiving your cards!
