New addition to our family! (couple pictures)

DH and I have been looking for a dog for a few weeks now. We had to put our last dog to sleep in June of 2010 and felt like we were finally ready for another dog. This little girl is a 6 year old dachshund/Jack Russel (maybe) mix who was found by a rescue group a couple miles from the interstate (dumped or lost). She is super sweet, housebroken, sits up for treats. Really a perfect little dog (although our cat Winston would disagree since he is getting chased a lot).

Her name right now is Shorty.. but we are thinking of changing that. The names I am considering right now are Heidi, Gretchen, Lexi, Lulu, Pippa (or Pippi), Shadow, Belle...

taking suggestions if anyone has any! :)

Does she ever look like a sweetheart! It didn't take her long to settle in....poor Winston!! Hopefully she just wants to play with him.

Oliver the cat is around and doing well. I completely lied to my grandparents and said I knew nothing about him... I went so far as to say that he probably came from the neighboring farm b/c they have so many! I'm probably going to hell, but that was already coming! He's VERY skiddish. I can't get w/in 20 or 30 feet of him. But he's around everytime I'm down there and I've spotten him eating the cat food that grandma puts out! I almost slipped and told them that he was neutered, but I caught myself! They don't even know if it's male or female b/c they can't get very close to him. Grandpa named him "Bobby" b/c of his bobtail. And I have to just go on about Nora. I've never had a better cat. She doesn't get on the counters, she uses the litter box, she's incredible w/ the dog and Oliver. Infact, Lucy and Nora were both sharing the same dog bed last night! She's awesome. Kudos to the SPCA for pointing me in the right direction!

Theresa Sorry to hear about Rusty. I had to put down mine due to a bad heart as well about 8 years ago, and I still think about her, but at least she lived to be 10 years before that happened. Max is a real sweety! He will fill the hole in your heart, but not replace Rusty. Could I maybe send some of our unwanted animals to your shelter? You mean they only had one long haired kitten. Our shelter is constantly bursting at the seams! Bless you for going to the shelter and giving him a wonderful loving home!

As you know Stacy I think Boomer is a complete and utter lovebug! He looks so much like my little girl Miss did as a pup. He is a lucky boy to have your family and heck a bonus of a brother and sister too! He just melts my heart!

Lucy looks sooooooo happy and sweet. Love the name you chose. We rescued a Golden in 1995 from SPCA and she's now approximately 14 years old and still with us. Her name is Lucy also. I chose her name because she had red hair and knew she'd be lots of fun!! "Everybody Loves Lucy"! Good choice and congratulations!!

No suggestions for names...seems they have to grow into a name, but just wanted to say she looks really sweet and innocent in those pics! Now time will tell on that statement!! LOL!!

She is just adorable, Lydia! And poor Winston! He needs to just give in to the darkside and be a friend! He'll soon find out that dogs are all that bad! LOL!!!

She looks a lot like a dog we used to have (my dad's favorite daughter, I think!) - Penny (actually Penelope Louise was her full name).

She is soooo cute. Heidi is not my favorite. I like Pippa. However, since she was lost and found like my last dog, I would call her J.D. for Jane Doe.

Thank you so much for getting a rescue dog. I've recently become involved with a local rescue group and we help find homes for animals that are at our local animal shelter so they don't get put to sleep. It is rewarding and heart breaking at the same time. So we really appreciate people like you who choose to rescue a dog. The animals really know it too and appreciate it. She is adorable :)

OH that is so weird you said Gretchen because I was just sitting around thinking of names for a cutie pie dog and I thought she needed to be "Gretta"...very close. So it's official Gretta or Gretchen...HA!

Oops, I had not remembered the first post gave Gretchen as a choice, that must have stuck in my subconscious mind and I came up with the Gretta name...gah...hahaha!

Lydia, she's just adorable!!

I like "Lexi," too. But you might try them all out on her, and see if you get a response. (With my Holly, her preference was very clear!)

Thanx for adopting a rescue. You will be repaid many times over with loyalty and love. I have four rescues right now of one kind or another and I couldn't ask for a better bunch of boys.

Whatever name you choose, I know she'll give you that unconditional love only dogs can give. I'm happy for all of you! :)

I knew a Corgi named Dolly, she was a sweet, funny girl! This girl is pretty, Lydia, I hope she works out great for you, thanks for adopting a full grown dog, she is so lucky to have you and J and K!

I'm always happy to see a rescued animal get a home. One concern though, with the looks of Dox in her, it's usually a bad idea to get them used to sitting up. Their backs often can't take it for very long and seeing a dog with a bad back and the resulting pain is heart-wrenching. A friend's vet told her to stop her Dox from sitting up. She somehow decided it was better begging sitting up!

Winston will probably adapt! At least he's (apparently) not attacking the newcomer!
