How many languages do you speak and why to Europe?
I would worry about safety. Personally, I would not want to. You might contact a foreign embassy thru the Canadian government for ideas.

Exactly why do you want to? And is Europe the only place you can find whatever it is you're looking for? I'd seriously consider that it sounds as if you're considering running away from something--and remember that it's virtually impossible to outrun our problems. If something in life isn't to your liking, I honestly think your energies might be better spent working on improvements, rather than going to an area where you don't know anyone, don't have a job lined up and can only speak one of the many languages used there.

If you truly want to live and work in Europe, then it might be a good idea to take several months to work on learning some of the languages that will help you get along, while you investigate job and living opportunites there. Take your time, make sure you have everything organized before you leap off the cliff.

Mariend, one language for me though I do have some knowledge of French, can speak a little and understand quite a bit.

Azzalea, I want to because I love it and Europe is the place for me. I have lived in England for two years and in Belgium for three years, both times because my dh was posted there with the military. Though I enjoyed my time in England, it doesn't compare to my time in Belgium (different time and different circumstances). I've been back in Canada now for two years and cannot get it all out of my head. Yes, running away is a part of it, but certainly not all of it. Life here is not so bad that I have to get away, I just want to before I am too old to enjoy it.

Of course it's not too old, people travel and live in various places around the world their whole lives! There's no age limit for traveling or successfully living in another country. Do some research on the job market and what you would need for a work visa in which countries you are interested in. Another route is to go live for a few years and take some college courses...and get a student visa. You only live once so I say go for it! Obviously it would be easier in an English speaking country, or where English is the second language and used often...but you'll pick up another language quickly if immersed in it. Good luck!

Have you thought of seasonal work in national parks. When I went to Yellowstone park I met a woman who always wanted to do that. Her husband traveled a lot for his job and suggested she do it. So she was a receptionists for the lodge and will work there around 6 months and live in a dorm. She also gets to take free tours so she knows Yellowstone well. She was having a ball. I admire her for doing her dream.

I think that if this is what you want to do, you should do it. I have no idea though how you do it. I have heard that it can sometimes be difficult to get a work visa in another country. Some countries only want their own citizens to get the paying jobs. I would think though that if you have a skill that not many people have, then you are more employable in a different country. Maybe a student visa is the way to go. Good luck.

If I were to chose a continent besides N.America to live, it would definitely be Europe. I don't understand why all the questions about why your reasons. Those are your business.

Sorry I can't help with any knowledge about job openings, but I know that military used to hire civilian teachers for schools of military personnel overseas. So the military might be a start.

I agree - go for it! I was just talking to some people who are probably in their mid-70s and they have done a lot of international work/travel since they retired. It's not like you've never been there. If you really want to do this then you'll figure it out.

There are a lot of government jobs overseas. Our son is in the Philippines and has been there for almost 2 years. He loves it and says he isn't coming back until the company looses the contract. The pay is excellent.

You can always hire out as an Au Pair. A small amount of money plus room and board and you live with the family helping out.

Don't know what the opportunities are, but how about teaching English in a predominantly foreign speaking country?

I would move back to Germany in a heartbeat. I also feel safer over there than I do in most places in the U.S. The U.S. government has a lot of jobs in Europe. Good luck, can't help you with finding a job, have no idea where to start.

Would you consider the Peace Corps? There is no upper age limit.

My sister was a nurse in Saudia Arabia for 8 years or so. She went back to high school in her 40's, then to college to become a nurse, worked for a few years at Detroit Receiving Hospital and then off to Saudi Arabia where she worked at King Faisal Specialist Hospital. She only came back to Canada because the insurgents started to target the compounds where the foreigners lived. She really loved working and living there.

Go for it, if only for the experience of doing some different. I wish I was that brave to leave and start over somewhere new.

Gosh, I wish I had some helpful information for you. I happen to have dual citizenship (USA and Italy), and I know that because have Italian citizenship I can easily live and/or work anywhere in Europe.

Depending on what you want to do for a living, you wouldn't necessarily need European citizenship, though. Look at all the folks on House Hunters International that decide to buy a home and live in a foreign country; many/most of whom have a job that can be done anywhere.
