Sorry, but I am extremely upset

Sorry, Aunt Audrey and others. We just were informed about a friend of ours who just commited sucide yesterday. Yes he had problems, but the reason is not known. No notes or?? Those who knew him and his family are devistated. He lost his father about a year ago, same way and now his son is feeling the same way. Just keep the family in your thoughts and I ask your forgiveness about sounding off.

Marie, I'm sorry for your loss. Suicide is only final for one person but it usually has many more victims to a single act. What a sad thing, as a dear friend once told me, it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I hope that the family can mend.

Man that really sucks, but mowing over it will actually make it worse because of the plants ability to take root from single pieces of plants, even a single needle can become a separate plant. A lot of succulents are able to do this quite easily. I still have the stuff growing back, but most of it is growing underneath bushes and other plants and just pull it when I notice it. I got rid of periwinkle the same year, 2 years ago, both have a few plants popping up here and there my next door neighbor planted English ivy, and it is spreading into my yard, I'm going to ask him if I can pull it eventually and offer to plant an alternative that isn't such a destructive plant. English ivy in Michigan isn't usually so bad because of the winters here, but a few warm winters and it could become much more invasive.

Contrary to what fsq4cw said, I don't think a LEED AP is going to be able to help. Unless they've done training outside of LEED specifically in HVAC systems. I say this b/c I'm planning on taking the test later in the summer (and just took a review class), and I don't believe I need to know the nuts and bolts of how an HVAC system is sized or supposed to work. What you need is an Energy Star certified home energy rater. I don't know if it's universal, but the guy we used also did the ACCA Manual J calc.s for the new system we put in (HP, not geothermal, though) as well as sized and schematically layed out the ducts (ACCA Manual D). The HERS rater can do blower door and duct blaster tests to see how leaky your home is in terms of air changes. These are pretty important, since there's a lot of detailing that's required to end up with a tight building envelope. If your builder and HVAC contractor weren't up to speed on that (neither of ours were), there could be a lot of issues that make the costs to heat/cool the house higher than expected. Since this also sounds like a brand new home, I'd be asking my builder for their HVAC contractor's sizing calculations for the system. I'm surprised that the folks who've answered didn't mention that- generally, the first question for someone who's looking at contractors for a new system is "are they using Manual J?". That boat's sailed on your system, but I'd want to know how my system ended up that large, and I'd send a cordial letter to my builder requesting the information. Especially, since I'm assuming you're still in the warranty period. But you have a big house, a massive HVAC system, and a lot of other things going on. I'd spend a couple months worth of power bills to have an independent professional check out your house and HVAC system to help you figure out whether there's a problem. Here's a kinda catch-all document for ways to reduce energy use. And, FWIW, our tankless heater is set at 105F and provides an amply hot shower. Mixing down from a hotter temp with a tank heater isn't a problem, but you're wasting energy if it's much above 120F. I found a neighbor's cat in the road right next to their house, which was a corner house on a fairly busy street. I stopped to take it out of the road, thinking it was dead, and discovered it was still alive. I took it to their house, only to discover they were out and a babysitter was there. She didn't want anything to do with it, so I told her to have them call me when they got home, and I took the cat home with me. I called a vet, but he said he wouldn't treat the cat without the owner's permission. I told him I couldn't get ahold of the owners, but he refused to treat the cat. This was a long time ago, and for some reason I don't remember, I either didn't know about emergency vets or something, I decided to just put the cat in a box in a room by iteself, to reduce the stress and fear it might have from being around someone it didn't know. The cat passed away shortly. If the same thing happened now, I would have taken it to the emergency clinic. At least I got it off the street so it could die in peace. One can't always avoid hitting animals, it happens. I have hit birds before, but luckily, no dogs or cats. I once, recently, nearly hit a group of 3 people! There were two people walking, one of which was pushing a man in wheelchair. It was night, and they were walking down the street, next to the curb. I was just edging closer to the curb to make a right turn ( the street is a wide lane street where people will pass others making turns, and pulling over makes it a bit safer, usually), when I saw these people right in front of me. Luckily, I had time to swerve and brake to avoid them, but they were basically invisible in the dark. Yes, I had my headlights on, but for some reason these people were just hard to see. They were wearing dark clothing, and I also just wasn't expecting them to be there. There are sidewalks along the street they could have used. Whew! I know that's not about hitting animals, but you just can't be too careful, and sometimes it just can't be helped. Sally

the one I got my husband has a holster thing that the phone snaps into and he wears it on his hip. He loves that part. He did some how manage to break a part on it, I called them and they were incredibly nice, sent a new one right out. I didn't even have to prove ownership. I recommend them not just because it's a great product but also some of the best customer service I have dealt with. edit to say that the one he has is the Defender series which comes with the holster included. Oh, Marie, that's so sad. I've never experienced a suicide but it seems so sad for the family and friends. Wish he'd left a note to give his loved ones some sort of comfort. That's not the right word, but I hope you know what I mean.

My heart goes out to you. I've only experienced one suicide in my life and it was a person I knew but wasn't close with. I was upset for weeks. It's hard to understand.

Yes, what a devastating experience ... and it touches, nay, clobbers so many, most always.

I hope that those who know the son well will spend time with him, to let him know that he is loved and cared for, and that we cannot run someone else's life for them ... but don't need to let their choices have a tendency to influence ours so strongly as to draw us into the whirlpool.

Let us send our good thoughts and hopes especially for the son, and for the others who have been so badly hurt.

And I offer some prayers on his behalf, and invite others who follow such paths to do so, as well.

Ive been in your shoes,people said whyare you angry he wasnt in his right mind,We were doing all we could for fathernlaw,he hung himself.i was mad ,he had 8 kids 22 grandkids..I know the feeling ,we didnt get a note either.

I can understand your anger and anguish. It is such a senseless, selfish act yet one can not help but feel guilty. I'm sorry you are experiencing this.

What a terrible shock it must be to you and all close to you and that family. No need to ask anyone's forgiveness, that's a part of the forum.

We can never know what prompts suicide, only support the person that they made the right decision for them and also support those who remain. Seldom will you really know the reason and frankly, it doesn't matter. What reason(s) they have might not be understood by others. It's sad when this happens, no doubt. I just hope the surviving son finds peace and comfort in his life.

My best to you and to all of those touched by this tragic event.

Marie-So sorry to hear this. My DH's cousin committed suicide a couple years ago. He was quite young and in the Navy (The suicide rate among military is supposed to be very high). I think about him often. Of course death is always sad, but we went through a whole slew of emotions. Shock, anger, guilt, sadness everything. I was mad at him for a while, but then I try to think about what he was feeling? He must have felt this was the best answer??? Then I feel sad that he probably felt depressed and very alone.

I hope his son is able to find support during this awful time.
