Do your supermarkets or grocery stores.....

have a "distressed" produce or other section?

It occurs to me that none of our large supermarkets here do this (ocasionally one will do a few bags of overripe bananas at a reduced price, but that's about it). I don't know the reason. Maybe a liability issue? I know I've asked about really overripe produce for my compost pile & have been told that it's against store policy".

We do have a couple of independent primarily produce but also general grocery stores that have a wonderful "distressed" produce section where you can purchase great stuff on the cheap. By the way, one is called "Berkeley Bowl", which used to be a large bowling alley in its long ago life---the new owners just kept the name.
