Plus cardboard boxes biodegrade in a way plastic bags never can.

Maybe get more in a bag, easier to store if you only use a bit? Just a thought.

I like the covience of the larger bags and use twist ties to portion it out. I wash the frozen veggies to melt the ice crystals away before cooking them. I can't stand that frozen taste.

I never buy the Steamables. They taste awful!

Gayle, I will have to try your rinsing hint. I rarely use frozen vegetables now that I live in the southwest. We can buy fresh vegetabels in such variety year round that I rarely buy frozen. but I grew up in the Midwest and then we ate frozen vegetables 10 or 11 months of the year.

I like the sacks of frozen veggies because I can just use as many as I want. I do tend to keep frozen peas on hand for stews.

I don't buy frozen vegetables - I only buy fresh.

I like frozen corn the rest is canned. I used to think canned was not as good as frozen, but much to my surprise it is usually better, more nutrients. Fresh veggies loose their nutrients quickly, when they canned them they are processed before the fresh veggies get to the store and have more nutrients.

I like the frozen peas in a bag that you can micro-wave, the brand I get taste's good to me. The corn too. We sadly, don't have a garden here, maybe someday when my husband retires :-) but it will be a challenge with all the bunnies and squirrels !

Lots of reasons but the top 5 probably are:

5) Boxes are more easily damaged/crushed and result in more waste for the stores
4) Bags protect from air penetration better than the boxes, even though most of the boxes are plastic coated, which of course affects their ability to break down.
3) Bags stack better in the freezers
2) Bags will usually take less space in the freezer so it's more cost effective to keep the product.

and the #1 reason:
1) Bags are cheaper!

I seldom buy frozen. I like canned better and they keep better too. But I never tried the rinsing. Good idea. Have to give that a try. I like being able to take the portion I want but generally with a can it's two servings or a full can goes into a dish.

I'm surprised they haven't started using bags for milk and other liquids around here, but I'm glad they haven't.

Did you know that frozen veggies are usually better for you than fresh? That is because they are flash frozen immediately after picking and fresh has been sitting in the store for hours (days?). Nutrients go out of veggies quickly after harvested.

Cynic - I buy my milk and orange juice in half gallon bags. I like it.

I don't buy many frozen veggies but I prefer the bag. I can just use the amount I need and not have to cook the whole thing like with the box.
