Off to my high school reunion

I got a pedicure yesterday, today I am packing and tomorrow I fly to CA to attend my 50 year high school reunion. I will take lots of pictures.

Wow! Linda, Do you realize you will be hanging out with a bunch of OLD people! I hope you come home feeling young.
Have fun, but remember to keep up the reputation of a "Midwestern Sofisticate."

I know, you are trying to think if you have ever met a sofisticated person since you moved to Iowa! LOL

Yes, I watched. (I almost hate to admit it, but I did! LOL) That's funny that you liked the football jock's old girlfriend. I didn't like her looks at all. I have a feeling that she is a lot more ready to get back with him than he is with her. Seems like she's just rebounding from her divorce. JMHO The summer girls? Whew! LOL What a big load of biotches!!! LOL

geez, you get an apology, even saying your son "deserved better" than he himself had done, which is certainly placing all the blame for the incident squarely to the his own shoulders--exactly what an apology should do. But somehow that's wrong too? (you wrote: "It really seemed to be insulting towards himself." -- what did you want him to do, make excuses?) I have to say that I think it's churlish in the EXTREME to criticise someone for their APOLOGY. He even went to lengths to make sure the letter would be the sort of thing your son could keep in his files and show to someone as a letter of recommendation, etc. I'd call that a pretty graciously written letter. And yet you can still criticize it? He wrote the letter without prompting from you, right? You bet your bippy you should give him credit for doing that. Some people wouldn't bother with the letter. He made a MISTAKE. I for one do not believe that he'd deliberately leave your kid off for mention because of something that happened between you and the principal *9* years ago. Or even 2 years ago. Teachers and principals are capable of separating parents from children, and they see the children so much more clearly than they see us. Plus in the intervening 9 years, I'm sure he's had more parents than you say worse things to him--why would he remember with any strength? It's obvious you're determined to hate this guy, since even the appropriate gestures he makes are met with such scorn. I wasn't there 9 years ago (which is a long time to hold a grudge on EITHER side), and I don't know all the other incidents--maybe he is a crumb, or maybe he's just sort of easily confused. But I'm sorta feeling sorry for this guy--even when he DOES do it right, he's in the doghouse. I'm w/ Arkansasgardenboy: I hope you will find closure to this and not hold a grudge any longer. I suppose my comments won't do anything to further that, and I'm sorry if I've chosen wording that's harsher than I intend.

lynn2006 - Thank you! The photos really don't do it justice. Such a calm, serene stone with a cottage/coastal look to it. My DH likes it, too; I think it's both masculine & feminine. Yes, the fact that it won't etch is huge. They won't guarantee it won't etch but if it does, the pattern & subtle texture will help to mask it. Marble etching doesn't bother me; more so, my DH. So this stone works for both of us. I love that it is not a polished stone; it looks so different from the other Sea Pearl slabs I was considering primarily because of the matte finish. Fingers crossed the quote doesn't blow the budget! holly-kay & romy - I appreciate your input re your sinks! Now I have that decision to make. :) My DH likes stainless; I like the apron look. Our fabricator said he makes a cost-efficient "faux apron" sink by using a stainless steel undermount sink with an apron front made out of the counter material. He's going to provide photos of previous jobs; says it looks nice. That might be the way to go for us; a nice compromise.

As a 13 yr. old brand new freshman, my best friend and I, thinking we were cool, decided to skip our first chemistry lab of the year. We had to make up the lab during lunch. During the lab, my friend stood there, mouth agape, pointing at me. I said "what's wrong? Spit it out!" At this point, the chemistry teacher ran across the room and frantically started beating me on the head. I've never seen a teacher move so fast. It is then that I realized I had caught my hair on fire in the Bunsen burner! My coolness rapidly dissipated. I was mortified. This was not how I wanted my first week of high school to go. My eyebrows were singed and my hair burnt. It smelled. I think I had to have it cut. I had been putting a product in my hair to lighten it and I think it made it very flammable. My best friend SWORE not to tell anyone. The next day, I walk into school and the first thing I heard out of someone's mouth, nonchalantly, was "Hi Torch!" And that was my nick name for the next year, to occasionally resurface throughout high school. This same best friend and I were taking advanced placement English. We had to memorize a sonnet and repeat it in front of the class. My friend volunteered to go first. I was sitting in the back of the class. I thought it would be funny to hold a sign up while she recited her sonnet. It said "YOU HAVE SOMETHING HANGING OUT OF YOUR NOSE." She stopped dead in the middle of her sonnet and said "What are you doing?" All eyes turned to me holding that sign. I wanted to crawl under my desk. That one sure backfired! Then there was the time I passed a note to a friend that said I'M BORED. The teacher intercepted the note. "You're bored, huh?" He said and proceeded to pull my desk and chair with ME in it all around the room, out the door and into the hallway, around the hallway and then back into it's spot, while the whole class watched wide eyed. "Are you still bored?" He asked me. I couldnt even answer. And then there was the time in seventh grade as an 11 yr. old that i had to bake something for English class and read the recipe out loud. I wanted to make M and M cookies. My mother refused to help (she was not the best mother, to be honest.). I tried to make them myself. But I believe I mixed up baking soda and flour. The cookies finished and looked yummy, sprinkled with bright M and M's. But they tasted like soap. I was in tears all night and dreading school the next day. I got up in front of the class and read my recipe and passed the cookies out. The kids eagerly reached for the cookies. I really hoped that a miracle would happen. But no, it was pretty sad to see the whole class gagging and spitting out the cookies.

I went to my 40th Reunion last month. I had a ball! Even saw my old crush, but he's recently married and has a 6 year old.

Our 50th college reunion was in April. We had a wonderful time. Had not seen anyone in 50 years as we all had gone separate ways to different states after college. It was great catching up , all of us were retired and made plans to travel together for our next event.

Sophisticated people know how to spell the word. They know it's from the same root as sophomore.
Have fun Linda....and remember to set all the Californians straight as to just where Iowa is, that it's not the same as Ohio and we don't grow potatoes, That Iowa is the home of Woodrow Wilson, Johnny Carson, Meredith Wilson, Cloris Leachman and Grant Wood. That it's where the first of the presidential primaries are held, where James Van Allen taught astronomy and where Tennessee Williams studied writing.

Have a Great Time!

My "official" 50th HS Reunion was 5 years ago (in Michigan), and this year I got an invtation to what was called an " Unofficial Ad Hoc 55th H.S. Reunion" at which they promised "no class pictures",'no speeches", etc. etc., just lots to eat & drink. Unfortunately, living in California, i've never made it to any of the five, or maybe I should say 5 & 1/2, Reunions. It would be interesting to see how well everybody's "held up".

Sorry Lindac, you can't claim Johnny Carson. I'm pretty sure he was born/raised in Nebraska.

Linda, have a wonderful time and take notes so you can tell us all about it when you get back. My 50th is next year but I haven't decided whether to go or not. All the other ones I've been to have been really fun, so I just might.

Have a good time I went to only one my 30th and that was many years ago. I don't think there are too many left since we were such a small graduating class. Under 200.I keep in touch with one gal (from Kindergrten on up) she hears from a couple of people. Hope you have a super time

LOL I knew there was SOMETHING wrong with that word! Believe me, I would be the last one to claim to be a half-way decent speller OR Sofisticated/Sophisticated (and I'm not even from Iowa.) I hate those complicated silent letters!

I should be having my 50th in two years. I haven't been to one since our 10th. I hope someone has my address.

50 years??? I've met you and find that hard to believe. You aren't one of those people that entered Stanford at the age of 12 are you?

I'll be attending a multi-year reunion in October, but the focus will be on my class --1950. It'll be our 60th! Hard to believe.

DH attends his. I've never gone to any of mine. (My HS class was nearly 1000; I hated HS!) At DH's reunions the draw is to see the kids he went to *grammar school* with, not so much the HS friends. They take pics of each 'feeder' school along with a HS group photo.

Oh this is all so funny to me when you all refer to having only 100 in your graduating class. We had 40 which was not considered an average size class. I had friends in the next school over and they graduated in a class with 12. Funny thing is all these schools are still open and still quite small although the school that had 12 in one graduating class now has 30. This was 25 years ago.

We had 250 in my class. Only 80 are coming to the reunion and that includes guests.

I graduated in 1978, and we were only 56. I only attended my 10th reunion.
