do you do a stsr 69 to hear where it was coming from?

Obviously a robo call or other junk call. They usually block their numbers and this is a way to bypass your blocking instructions.

Got another one little while ago.

I found out I can block that number by adding 000-000-0001 and block that number. Fingers crossed.

I Googled 'caller id shows only the number 1'. They call it telephone spoofing or caller id spoofing. Amazing how people will go to such lengths to do what they do. Even the politicians are hiding/disguising their id this year.

Not unusual at all. And pretty easy for them to do. Doing a *69 is a waste of money since you'll get the same info as the CID shows or it'll say information is not available. *69 is based on caller ID information, it's not a call tracing service.

Many places change the CID info for various reasons, most of them are to disguise collection agencies, fund-raisers, telemarketing scumbags and the like. I never answer calls like that and they get one chance to leave a message. Failing that, they're blocked.

Lately I have gotten calls where the ID says "answer phone", Of course, I don't.

well, tried blocking by using 000-000-0001 and didn't work. They called twice the morning.

Friend said by not answering, which I don't, will work and they will finally give up.

If I block them, friend says, the callers then know my phone is still active.

I have several numbers blocked, and reported to Do Not Call, but doesn't seem to do anything when I do report them.

I usually head for the bathroom for No. 1.

Unless I'm out in the former barnyard ... field ... garden.

Don't know whether I've had such calls, as I won't pay the phone co. extra to get "Caller ID".

What gets my goat are the calls where, when one answers, there's dead line ...

... for about 10 seconds ...

... then a "click" ... then a busy signal.

One of those automatic dialing machines ... but the warm bodies that are to take the calls are all too busy to answer.

Glenda, I too googled caller ID only shows '1'
and one response was whoever is calling you is using a spoofing service that allows them to do this.
You might go to google search and put that information in as there is a bit more and several ways to handle it.

I rarely get any spam calls. The Do Not Call list seems to work for me.

Like OJ, I won't pay for Caller ID.

But ... when I bought a new-old car about a month ago ...

... I was able to pay for it in full ...

... (plus the increase in insurance rate over the former, 24-year-old one - this one's ony 7 years old [8 years old now, I guess, being as it's an '05, as the new models are out]).

The "new" one also has a standard transmission, so, as long as no one's crawling up my tail-pipe, which is frequently, in the country ...

... I can coast downhill!

OJ. I bought my new-old car back in '07. I had been driving an '87 Honda Civic, bought new, until it coughed its last cough. I paid cash minus a couple thousand, for it, because having been recently widowed, I thought having credit in my own name was a good idea.

When I got this new-old one, another Honda Civic, I had been feeding a new-car piggy bank, but prices being what they were, I didn't have quite enough, so I made payments until I had enough cash built up to pay it off. Even now, I don't owe anybody anything and I'm still a frugal tight wad!

Just like you OJ, except that I do buy certain unmentionables quite often!! And I don't coast down hills.
