Need New Recipe for Steak Tip Marinade

I am planning to marinate some steak tips for tomorrow, and decided that I'm tired of my old stand-by marinade recipe. I also don't want to buy bottled marinade as I find that too sweet.

I've googled and of course come up with zillions of recipes, but I thought I'd ask here for tried and true favorite recipes of yours. Not sweet, please. Also, I do like teriyaki, but often find those too salty; I will use light soy sauce if that is an ingredient.

Any thoughts? I was thinking of marinating starting either this afternoon or tonight for a mid-day tomorrow meal.

We LOVE this recipe:

1. medium onion chopped
3. cloves of garlic minced
Saute these in butter oil combination until softened.

Then add :
1. cup of ketchup
1/4 c. of water
1/4 c. of red wine vinegar
3.TBSP. Brown sugar
1.TBSP. White sugar ( not needed really)
5-7 drops or more according to taste of hot sauce
salt and pepper.
bring to boil over medium heat simmer for several mins. and then add 1/2 can of Coke...(not diet) stir to combine and then cool.
The longer you marinate the more delicious the meat gets.

Everybody raves about this..

I like to buy a bottle of Red Wine Vinegarette (sp?) salad dressing and use it as marinade for steak. Poke the raw steak all over with a fork, place in a zipper plastic bag, pour in the salad dressing and let it sit in the fridge overnight. Pour off the excess and broil the steak for 5 to 7 minutes per side, depending on how "done" you like your steak.

Hello Everyone! I'm really glad i found this thread! I have some tips as well. :O) I am a female type A 1.I saute in chicken broth my onions,cilantro,tomatoes and squash with my chicken,fish,shrimp or turkey. 2I make homemade hot sauce boil together then put in food processor.season to taste Also, you can hand cut tomatoes,peppers and onions to make a pico de gallo. season to taste 3.. turkey meatball- Make golf ball size balls. 1 15 oz tomato sauce,3 small tomatoes,1 small onion,1 green and 1 red bell pepper,1 tsp parsley,1 tsp garlic,1 tsp oregano,1tsp basil,2 packets splenda,2 egg whites and black pepper. mix all ingredients together and cook. When meat ball are ready mix sauce in with the meatballs. let simmer 5 minutes. Serve. 5. these are some ideas i have thought of or got from someone else. I use my own type A food and my own ideas. :O) 0.Hash browns 0.oatmeal muffins 0.pancakes 1/2 cup of plain oat meal,4 eggs,1 splenda,1/4 tsp vanilla. Grind oatmeal then mix all ingredients. 1.fiesta eggs 2.turkey veggie soup 3.sweet and sour meatballs 4.turkey burgers 5.pizza- 1/2 c oatmeal uncooked and ground up, 2 tsp of Italian season,3 tsp garlic,1 1/2 nsa baking powder,2-3 tsp water.Mix and patty out.sauce-1 small can of tomato sauce,1-2 tsp garlic,2 tsp balsamic vinegar.splenda to taste. toppings- turkey,tomato,onions,peppers,etc. 6.meatloaf 7.turkey tacos 8.chicken fajitas 9.chicken fried rice 10.hot chicken fingers 11.pepper chicken 12.stir fry 13.beef stew 14.chili 15.cabbage 16.pepper steak 17.pot roast and veggies 18.meat loaf 19.seafood gumbo 20.red snapper stew 21.bass 22.spicy shrimp 23.crab cakes-2 oz crab,1 egg,1/4 c. onion,1/4c. bell pepper.Mrs dash to taste,1/4 c. oatmeal. mix all ingredients and fry like pan cakes. add hot sauce. Yum! veggie stew 25.Garlic vinaigrette dressing-1/2 c. balsamic vinegar,1/2 c.nsa garlic vinegar,1 tsp garlic chopped,2 tsp thyme,1/2 tsp ground ginger,splenda to taste. 26.sweet potatoes- 2 lg sweet potatoes,vanilla flavoring,orange flavoring. Mix and bake on 350 for 20 min. 27.candies yams- 4 yams,splenda,cinnamon to taste. bake on 350 till caramelized Have lots more. But i will have to add more later. :O) Hope this helps someone. I've been a chef for 28 years! I use order a case from Tyson's delivery of the Black Diamond steaks One restaurant I worked in we made our own black diamond steaks with Ribeye steaks. I ordered the seasoning mix that came in a large bag like flour would come in but the bag was see through plastic bag. The seasoned powder was called Black Cow. We'd take the ribeye steaks and soak em overnight in the seasoned black-diamond powder mix. I'd broil the Black-Diamond each order. They tasted exactly like the awesome Black Diamond steaks! Some restaurants do have Black Diamond Steak on the menu. I too have searched for recipes to make my own Black Diamond steaks! I found recipes online claiming it was Black Diamond steak recipe & when I tried the recipes? None of them came close to the taste I'm looking for of the Black Diamond Steak! Now when I search online and see a recipe for Black Diamond? As soon as I read a certain ingredient in the recipe I know it's not what I'm looking for. If you've had the real Black Diamond Steak at one time? You'll never forget how tender the steak was and the flavors out of this world! I gave up on trying other people's recipes online for Black Diamond Steak! I found recently online that anyone can buy the famous Black Diamond Steaks by the case. Tyson's is the brand & they come with free delivery to your front door. You get 32-6 oz Black Diamond Steaks for $201.95 wholesale price that comes to only: $6.32 each! BJ'S wholesale Club, use to sell the Tyson's Black Diamond 6 oz steak that came in 4 6 oz steaks in a box but it figures they discontinued that awesome product! However the price was way too high to buy them from BJ'S (Even though I did buy them cause I love these steaks!) Now that I can buy them myself ? An entire case at a wholesale price? That's so well worth it! I have a stand-up freezer here at home. I can easily by a case with plenty of room for a whole case of the best Black Diamond Steaks the one & only original I've always loved very much!

Both Nancy's Backwood Flank Steak and Bubbe's Marinated Flank Steak (both ladies are regular posters on the Cooking Forum) are great recipes, really great recipes! Backwoods Flank Steak- Nancy (aka Wizrdnm) 3/4 C soy sauce 1/3 C Pickapeppa Sauce (a mild hot sauce) 1/3 C worcestershire sauce 1/4 C red wine 1/4 C red wine vinegar 1 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil 2 cloves of garlic, crushed 2 flank steaks (about 2 1/2 lbs total) Combine the marinade ingredients in a container large enough to hold the steaks. Add the steakes and refrigerate 6 to 24 hrs... Nancy Marinated Flank Steak (Renee aka Bubbe) Source: My own recipe since the late 1970Âs. Ingredients: 2 Â3 Lb. Flank steak For Marinade: 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1/2 cup tomato juice 1/2 cup light soy sauce 1/4 cup brown sugar 3 cloves garlic minced 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper 2 scallions, sliced (optional) Preparation: Â In a large bowl, whisk first 4 ingredients together. Â Add remaining ingredients and stir. Â Have butcher trim flank steak of all excess fat and silverskin. Â Pound steak slightly on both sides, and with a sharp knife score surface shallowly on the diagonal in one direction and then in the opposite direction, creating a diamond pattern on both side. Â Place in marinade and turn every so often to marinate evenly. Â Refrigerate overnight if possible. Alternatively, marinate at room temperature for two hours and cook or refrigerate until ready to cook. To cook: Â Remove from refrigerator one hour before cooking, drain and blot off excess marinade Â Drain and discard marinade Â Grill on barbecue or cook under broiler about 4 1/2 to 6 minutes on each side (depending on thickness) for medium rare. Do not overcook. Â Let stand 2-3 minutes before slicing across the grain at a slanted angle. seasiderooftop I have Princess Anne as 5th-year own root, it's very tough with thick cane, and bloom best with chicken manure, it's in only 4 hours of morning sun: @joeywyomingzone4 I read your post on rooting roses with band-size containers with a mixture of pea pebbles, charcoal bits, and chopped up banana skins. Thank you for that fantastic tip. @rosecanadian Growing small own-root roses in the pot is so much easier than grafted. Plus own-root roses last longer. Evelyn roots VERY EASY here and yearly I throw away Evelyn rootings, which I wish I could send to you. I sent out rootings with zero soil & dunked in water before sending out, and they bloom well for a friend in Texas. Below is bloom on an Evelyn rooting I did. I kept it in partial shade thus the bee-leaf-cutter damage.

For something different, I use this recipe:

1 cup Coke (regular, not diet)
1/3 cup soy sauce
good squeeze of lemon juice.

Marinade several hours.

We really like this for Kabobs. When I first got this a long time ago, it was for a roast that you grill but I have used it for steaks too.

Thanks, ladies; I appreciate your taking the time to post. I can't help but think that these would be sweet, and as mentioned, I really don't care for sweet marinades. The red wine vinegar one is a possibility, although I guess I'm looking more for a do-it-yourself one. I might try a variation of all 3 of these together, minus the sugar and Coke, and see what I come up with. Will let you know!

This is one my DSis gave me and works very well.

The Perfect Steak Marinade

2 cloves garlic
2 Tbs Worcestershire Sauce
2 Tbs Balsamic Vinegar
Freshly ground pepper
2 tsp Dijon mustard
2 Tbs soya sauce
2 Tbs Olive oil

Combine in bowl, and whisk together well. Pour into Ziploc bag with steaks and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or upto 4 hours.

Ok, I've mixed it up; I did use a combination of the above: I've mixed soy sauce, lemon juice, a little oil, red wine dressing that I had in the fridge, a bit of red wine, garlic, and a small blob of brown sugar. Not sure how it'll be, but I'm thinking positively! Happy Labor Day to all.

Ooh, luckygardnr - sounds wonderful. We were posting at the same time. I really like the sound of that; love mustard. I'll try that next time for sure. I've got more tips in the freezer so will go for it next weekend. Thank you!

I know it's too late now but thought I'd toss in my 2Â¢ worth. I don't like sweet meats either. Can't stand seeing people ruin a great smoky ham by covering with sugar! Eat breakfast cereal if that's what you want AFAIC.

For marinades I usually wing it but usually use beer, Teriyaki, Worcestershire sauce, Louisiana Hot Sauce, a touch of vinegar, a touch of oil (sometimes sub a little Italian dressing) and some seasonings that go with it or season it after. Possibly some BBQ sauce on occasion for a change.

I also know people who just use Italian Dressing as the marinade.
