A big boy room in the making....

Here's a couple pics of Grants new room in the making. I'm going to put a mirror above the dresser, the artwork you see on the dresser will be matted and framed and hung to the left of the window. I'll find other artwork for the wall above the headboard and maybe to the left of the nightstand on the wall I'll put a couple small shelves for decorative stuff (I'll get everything else up first and see how it would look, might be too much). I'll get a metal lamp to match the hardware on the dresser and that will go on the nightstand with a red shade and I'll do some sort of red window valance too.

The walls are a soft beige. I didnt want them too dark because it's a small room that doesn't get any direct sunlight. It looks kinda pinkish on my computer screen in these pics, but it's not at all. Paint color is hard to photograph.

Don't mind the headless body hanging out from under the bed! LOL

That's going to be a great 'Grant room'. Is he already sleeping in the bed?

No, he's not sleeping in there yet. I want to put a room darkening shade on the window and move a few of his things in there so it feels familiar to him. He doesnt do transitions like this well so I want to make it as comfortable as I can.

Should I expect the smaller nurseries to carry them, or a bigger chain like Home Depot? Well Home depot carries the rolls of CRW (concrete reinforcing wire) but no, they aren't sold pre-made. You have to make the cages yourself or have someone make them for you unless you can find a gardener with extras who will sell them to you. There are many discussions here about how to make them and I'll dig up some and link them below. Online you can order Texas Tomato Cages (http://www.tomatocage.com/intro.html) already made but they aren't cheap so most of us make our own. They last 10-15 years and all you need is the roll of wire, a tape measure, pair of pliers and a pair of wire cutters. Dave Here is a link that might be useful: CRW Tomato cage discussions...

Hi Deb I just happened to log on here at lunch and saw your post. I'm more of a lurker. Just Saturday though I found this really cool website called Dali Decals. I'm not affiliated at all. Anyhow I just send for some color samples for our guestroom and I do believe I saw that they do something like what you mentioned. Might be good to take a look. I've been looking for some kind of artwork to no avail and now think we will go this route with the decal. Check it out. They have some really cool things.

Thanks for all the feedback! We're living in a rental right now while we're building. My son's room is yellow now & I just do not like it. I was thinking of a green, something just a tad bit darker than what's in the quilt. I almost bought some red curtains on clearance from JC Penney's, but wasn't sure how they'd look w/ a green wall. Red was the only color on sale. My mother in law suggested painting one wall blue or red & the rest a neutral beige. I just don't know. I am not good at this!! I want to use a color that we can use for at least the next 5 years. I hate to paint!! Oh, we're giving him our old BR suit & it is a maple color.

You could paint the nook where his bed is red above his head and the wall around the window and ac. Then wrap the red on around just into the white shelf area; the two ends and back wall forming the recess for the shelf. You could also use it to punch up that funky little bit of wall by the door with the dart board. If you paint everything gray first, you can step back and make the final decision before committing to red paint. You may decide that it will be better to paint the furniture red instead. Or you may just want to add red accessories like a duvet cover, pillows and rug. That way, when he tires of red, you can just pop in another color he likes by a simple change of soft goods.

Oh Steph..that is looking wonderful!! Is he old enough to understand that this is "his" room? He looks pretty comfortable in there to me!*S*

Yes, he knows it's his new room. We've been making a big deal out of it, and getting super excited about the big boy bed and all. Once I get his things in there I think it will become more of a comfort zone than a playhouse, which is what it seems to be to him right now! :-)

That's a great idea, Steph, to transition him into his room slowly. By the time his sister arrives, he won't feel like he was booted out of his old room.

Gosh, he just keeps growing!! I love the bedding and think the red valance will really complete the room.

I've been gone and didn't know you were having a baby girl. Oh man--I can't wait for you and grandma to dress her up! She'll be the fashion plate of the playground!!

I like it already. You have an amazing talent for decorating. All of the pictures that I have ever seen of your house have been just breath taking.

It looks like he likes it too. Adorable. It is hard to believe that he has gotten so big...seems like only yesterday we were all going through the implantation with you.. He is as cute as ever and I love his new room.

I sure like the big boy furniture you chose Steph. Sounds like you've got it all planned out. He's gonna think it's a haven just for him once you get all ready. It's looking so cute! Love the spread and colors too.
