A big boy room in the making....

Here's a couple pics of Grants new room in the making. I'm going to put a mirror above the dresser, the artwork you see on the dresser will be matted and framed and hung to the left of the window. I'll find other artwork for the wall above the headboard and maybe to the left of the nightstand on the wall I'll put a couple small shelves for decorative stuff (I'll get everything else up first and see how it would look, might be too much). I'll get a metal lamp to match the hardware on the dresser and that will go on the nightstand with a red shade and I'll do some sort of red window valance too.

The walls are a soft beige. I didnt want them too dark because it's a small room that doesn't get any direct sunlight. It looks kinda pinkish on my computer screen in these pics, but it's not at all. Paint color is hard to photograph.

Don't mind the headless body hanging out from under the bed! LOL

That's going to be a great 'Grant room'. Is he already sleeping in the bed?

No, he's not sleeping in there yet. I want to put a room darkening shade on the window and move a few of his things in there so it feels familiar to him. He doesnt do transitions like this well so I want to make it as comfortable as I can.

Should I expect the smaller nurseries to carry them, or a bigger chain like Home Depot? Well Home depot carries the rolls of CRW (concrete reinforcing wire) but no, they aren't sold pre-made. You have to make the cages yourself or have someone make them for you unless you can find a gardener with extras who will sell them to you. There are many discussions here about how to make them and I'll dig up some and link them below. Online you can order Texas Tomato Cages (http://www.tomatocage.com/intro.html) already made but they aren't cheap so most of us make our own. I'm on a website looking at atv's and every single ATV I have come across has an "Important Safety Information" Pop-up on the page that says " Recommended for experienced riders 16 years of age and older. _____ recommends that all ATV riders wear a helmet, take a training course, and read their owner's manual thoroughly. Also here is a manual that I found online, please look at pages 7 & 12. www.etonamerica.com/PDF/EA%20ATV%20Rider%20Safety%20Handbook.pdf - Never allow a child to operate the ATV without adult supervision. (pg. 7) Never operate an ATV without wearing an approved helmet that fits properly. Thanks for all the feedback! We're living in a rental right now while we're building. My son's room is yellow now & I just do not like it. I was thinking of a green, something just a tad bit darker than what's in the quilt. I almost bought some red curtains on clearance from JC Penney's, but wasn't sure how they'd look w/ a green wall. Red was the only color on sale. My mother in law suggested painting one wall blue or red & the rest a neutral beige. I just don't know. I am not good at this!! I want to use a color that we can use for at least the next 5 years. I hate to paint!! Oh, we're giving him our old BR suit & it is a maple color.

auburn92 First..a big congrats on your new baby! How exciting. Your little boy must be so excited to be a big brother.. doing his room right before baby, will make him feel special. I love Land of Nod!! and I love the bedding! just perfect! I like the color of the walls in the picture. To break up yellow or gold, add red area carpets and red accents to the walls. Or..there are many nice shades of blue, that will work also. Or..a nice cream and blue pin strip wall paper on the bottom under a chair rail, and either gold, red or blue paint on top, it will break up solid walls that way if you think one color will be too much ..there are so many options, which is great! I love the vintage airplanes and old trunks..that is a perfect idea..maybe find stickers from travel places and stick them on the trucks..or you can make a collage of different places around the world and states and frame it in red as well.. maybe some small flags from different countries for the walls too..( the are triangle in shape and can be put on string to hang across the wall..) I think this will be a beautiful boys room..you have all the right ideas..it's fun and whimsical ..very different from the same ol' sports, trains, cars etc.. you are going to have fun decorating his room. you have to post pictures when you are done. Yes, he knows it's his new room. We've been making a big deal out of it, and getting super excited about the big boy bed and all. Once I get his things in there I think it will become more of a comfort zone than a playhouse, which is what it seems to be to him right now! :-)

That's a great idea, Steph, to transition him into his room slowly. By the time his sister arrives, he won't feel like he was booted out of his old room.

Gosh, he just keeps growing!! I love the bedding and think the red valance will really complete the room.

I've been gone and didn't know you were having a baby girl. Oh man--I can't wait for you and grandma to dress her up! She'll be the fashion plate of the playground!!

I like it already. You have an amazing talent for decorating. All of the pictures that I have ever seen of your house have been just breath taking.

It looks like he likes it too. Adorable. It is hard to believe that he has gotten so big...seems like only yesterday we were all going through the implantation with you.. He is as cute as ever and I love his new room.

I sure like the big boy furniture you chose Steph. Sounds like you've got it all planned out. He's gonna think it's a haven just for him once you get all ready. It's looking so cute! Love the spread and colors too.
